That's a possibility-- if someone was able to threaten him, he might not be willing to come forward.

...whatever happened, I do think he would have come to me. I don't understand why he didn't.

No, but I've been working with him closely. He's one of the few people who believed my "manipulator" theory had merit.

An unknown force controlling people against their wills isn't exactly something most people will accept without a lot of evidence behind it, after all.

I guess I know what that's like. You're lucky he believed you, someone important like that - he could have ended your career.

I am. I'm lucky he and a few others believed and agreed with me; it made spending years on it actually possible.

No. Just myself, the justice minister, a former mortician, and the chief of police.

I guess it might look weird, for a policeman to be trying to save a criminal. Especially with him being a former cop himself...like all of you just trying to protect your own.

That's our fear. We can't make this look like we're playing favorites. If we do this, it has to be entirely by the book.
