Final Investigation.

Friday morning dawns like the rest of the week before it, with the chiming of the clock and the doors to the kitchen unlocking; once again, there's no announcement from Jericho, and everything seems to be largely quiet. Noticeably quiet, really, given that there are only eight of you left. However, quiet tends to be a good thing around here, overall; it means you're free to go about your business like you usually would. There are a couple of things to note, however, as your morning proceeds onward and begins to creep into afternoon. The first is that Rin's unlockable box has started making a strange mechanical whirring sound. The second is that sometime slightly after noon, the power to the building suddenly and abruptly goes out, casting everything into darkness. Interesting.

[ . . . Suddenly, it's a lot nicer on her eyes, wow. (she was only just getting up an at 'em by noon tbh) That said she's going to gather up some stuff in her bags she was making the other day, throw that over her shoulder and then step on into the halls. She's sort of slowly heading towards the Foyer? but she's calling out because while she can see okay in this the others surely can't: ]

Hey, anyone else up?!

[perpend]

I'm up, wouldn't do to sleep in today.

[Cabanela emerges from the kitchen, looking puzzled.]

[RIDEAUX SURE CAN'T.

As Elda calls out, she'll hear his voice calling out from somewhere near the dining hall. He's forced to feel his way around for now since he's nowhere near any candles or lighters.]

Yes! Just what the hell is going on?!

[Not that he expects Elda to know, but still.]

Dunno! All the lights went out, it's great!

[ . . . Said the vampire.

She'll just be heading towards the kitchen/dining room area. Oh right, most of them would be eating. ]

I was up late.

[ ... But in retrospect maybe she should have been up and at 'em earlier? But oh well, let's get closer to the people who can't see as much. ]

Elda?

[As soon as she hears the other woman's voice, she's heading that way as best she can in the dark.]

I'm glad we were fairly close together before this began, whatever it is.

[matchbreaker]

That's me! If you guys are all blind maybe you oughta get a candle... Oh, I still have one of my lighters?

[ Somewhere in this bag. Ditty, can you get it...? ... No? you can't see either? Okay. ]

[On your way there, you'll notice a dim glow emanating from the stairwell leading upwards. It doesn't look quite like candlelight - it's not moving enough for that - but that's about the quality of it, so it isn't terribly bright. It looks like those sorts of emergency lights low to the ground so non-vampire people aren't at a total loss in the dark.

(Don't worry, Elda, it shouldn't be bright enough to hurt your eyes.)]

[Rideaux's voice gets clearer as she approaches, and presumably she'll find him trying to make his way toward her voice.]

For you, maybe.

[He grumbles under his breath.]

Do you happen to have one of those lighters on you so the rest of us can see what we're doing? Who knows how long this'll last.

... Guys, there's lights on the stairs.

[ ... So maybe they should meet there instead? ]

If you have it, that would be useful. Do you know what happened...?

[matchbreaker]

Oh, I do! But you might just wanna come over to me there's some sort of lights here!

[Someone else went exploring when the power went out, though 'exploring' in this case is more 'walking slowly while holding onto the walls because he doesn't have a light source'.

But he's so grateful when he hears someone else, because wandering around in the darkness is just a little terrifying.]

Who wouldn't be up, it's well into the day by now. Not that you could tell with how dark it is.

[He can still complain though, so he's alright for now.]

Oh... I see it.

[She blinks in that direction, but that's probably a better place to go. Time to head that way!]

[matchbreaker]

No idea, and I do, but just follow my voice as best you can, we sure got something here!

[matchbreaker]

[ . . . I mean she was still powdering up for the day but uh. ]

Just follow my voice, we've got something even you can see!

[So Rin's presence is probably heard before it's seen, though not exactly by her. Whirring noise ahoy!]

I'm not sure, but I think it might be caused by this. [Rin's brought the box with her, though in the dark Elda might be the only one who can see it clearly so Rin clarifies.] That box Sayaka and I found suddenly started making a noise, and the power went off a moment later.

What? [Sure enough, following Elda's voice leads Rideaux to the doorway where he can see the light.] Oh.

[And he'll be joining up in that thread!]

At least there's that. Wouldn't want any of us falling down the stairs and breaking our necks.

[grumble, grumble, fumble...]

[He laughs a little.]

Fair enough.

[She is the resident vampire, after all.]

The power going out so suddenly is a... surprise, I'll be honest.

....Well then. We might as well follow the light.

[matchbreaker]

... So it's a machine box in the first place?

[ Weird.

... But come on and join us at these weird lit up stairs. ]

How did none of us notice this before?

[but yay for not breaking any necks on stairs!

Or something in it is. Whatever's inside it is loose.

[But yeah, she's coming!]
