Afterparty 5.0

[There's not much that can be believed about that trial. Or that execution. Still, like before, two hours after everyone leaves, they'll find a note slipped underneath their doors.]

We have to stick together. The dining room is there for anyone that needs a quiet space, and I cooked dinner.

Hibiki made some coffee and dessert for all of us.

[Today's selection includes potato pancakes and a light coffee cake. Hibiki has lit two more candles in the dining hall. It doesn't take long before Mordecai lights a third.]

[ Here's this guy depositing his butt into the seat across from Yuuri. ]

Not to be a complete fucking asshole and all, but you guys don't have some kinda reanimation magic, do you? You wouldn't be all like, "I can revive all of you guys but you'll be fucking zombies", right?

Yuuri stares at him for a few moments before finally shaking his head. ]

A few of us can heal wounds and stuff, but I think bringing someone back to life would probably take too much power.

Good. Not that I thought you would do some dumb shit like that, anyway.

[ He just wanted to make sure... ]

How about those ghosts, though? I mean, if their... souls or whatever are still hanging out, do you know if they can be stuck back in bodies?

Maybe... There has to be some way we can get them back.

[ He just has no idea how to go about that. ]

Yeah... they're almost definitely not gone yet, it seems like. That's... it's something.

[ Kind of a perplexing silver lining, but at least it's there. ]

I wonder if we can communicate with them in a better way...

[ It definitely is. Even though ghosts creep him out, it's comforting to know they're still here. ]

What have we tried so far? Chie-san talked to me with her key, and I know a few others used a Ouija board, right?

I got a sort of "yes or no" system going with Kaneki for a while.... I was thinking of leaving some pieces of paper and pens next to some candles and seeing if they'd write on them.

That's a good idea. That might give us more than just "yes or no" answers. It's worth trying, at least.

Yeah, it's not like it's really much effort. They probably have limits to how much they can communicate with us, but... I dunno. They probably see things that we don't, it'd be useful to be able to talk to them properly.

Yeah, I think so too. Maybe we can just write down a few important questions and leave it, and see if they can answer them all.

Yeah, the hard part is just figuring out what questions to ask... we need to get our information better organized, too. I mean, we have the meetings and all but nobody really compiles what we talk about, do they?

[ He could just be not paying... attention... ]

No, I don't think so. Unless someone is writing it down later.

[ Which he could never do. There's way too much going on. ]

I know I'm not. But I have a shit ton of letters at this point, and I bet others do too... I guess I could write up everything from those, and maybe others would be okay doing that too.

[ Bakugou's letters to the Conductor are only 50% productive, the other 50% are a totally embarrassment, though, so... haha. ]

That's a good idea. At least that will get us started somewhere.

[ He's doing better than Yuuri, who doesn't even want to talk to the guy if he can avoid it. ]

Yeah... I think we need to start getting more serious about this kind of thing. I mean, I could be totally wrong, but I have the feeling that Observant wouldn't set up a game that couldn't be beaten... it wouldn't be as much amusement if we were doomed to failure.

[ That's an insight that Bakugou never wanted to have, but here it is... ]

What makes you say that? Has he said anything that points to him wanting us to win?

[ Because Yuuri hadn't even thought about that before... That the Conductor might want to see them succeed as much as he wants to see them fail. But it makes sense. ]

I don't think he necessarily wants us to win, but I think he would leave it as a possibility. I mean... he told me that the first round of this exercise thing was too short to be as interesting as this one, and he considers this amusement. What would be interesting about watching a game that can't be won?

[ Bakugou is moderately disturbed at how far he thought down the path of "how is the Conductor thinking about this?" but, well. Here he is. ]

[ Yuuri pauses for a few moments in thought. ]

That does make sense, actually... If there's no room for surprises, then this would get boring fast right?

Yeah... well, that's what I think, at least. I don't really mind being wrong over knowing what's on the Conductor's mind, though.

[ He doesn't even know why he keeps talking to the Conductor. Latent masochism, maybe. ]

[ He nods, smiling a little. ]

I don't mind either. It's actually a good thing.

Yeah, I don't really want to try crawling around in that guy's head for too long if it can be helped.

When all this is over, I hope I never have to hear from him or even think about him again.
