WEEK 2.

WEEK 2

Two people are dead. Jean Kirstein and Caren have both died due to a tragic accident. Of course, you're not entirely innocent, are you? You voted, you played into this game the Coordinators are running. But you know the stakes now. You know what failure to complete Rule Seven really means.

No more excuses from here on out.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

Of course, exploring the building from here on will reveal something new: namely, a stairwell in the northeastern corner, leading upwards toward a new floor entirely. Another sign of how things are going to progress around here, maybe; chances are you'll enjoy what you've been given, but was it worth the lives of two people to obtain?

INVESTIGATION

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-20 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Susan goes to the kitchen on Wednesday morning, as per usual. She doesn't usually put a lot of effort into making breakfast, so toast is one of the more common items she'll make. As such, she spends some time looking through all the cabinets, trying to discover where some idiot has, inexplicably, decided to hide the toaster.

Ugh. Who stole the toaster.

They've talked about investigation, and it seems like a good idea. Susan isn't quite sure what there may be to find, or how useful she would be at it anyway, so she decides to start with the ballroom. She's familiar enough with it. Maybe she would be able to think of somewhere to look? You may find her poking around the piano rather than playing it for once.

In the evening, she's in the dining hall. The candles Cabanela left out - three, now, so quickly - are lit again, and Susan sits on the edge of the flickering halo of candlelight, drawing. There's a finished portrait of Caren already, lying near the candles; it's quite good. She seems to be working on Yosuke now.]

Dining Hall.

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
... Oh, so you can draw too. I was half considering that until Cabanela said these weren't really graves.

[ Said Elda, from the shadows. ... Okay no she just sort of walked into the room but damn can she do that silently. She pulls up a chair and sits in it backwards to watch. ]

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
He's the one I told I'd do this. I might not have, otherwise. Not because of them, or this, it's just...

[Doing it for someone else is different than just...doing it herself.]

...I don't know. It'd be better if we had frames.
matchbreaker: (the one below was the worse option)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
So of mixes the message, honestly.

[ She tilts her head ]

But hey, I guess there's no problem. If we end up at another trial, we could try stealing those frames.
ninehundredlives: ([ show it to ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Susan shrugs. Whatever, Cabanela didn't exactly give her the idea.] It doesn't matter, I'm not going to stop now. It'd be worse than not doing any.

Maybe. I wanted to steal the portraits from the profiles, but there's no way to get at those.
matchbreaker: (Notre Dame)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-21 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, if we draw well enough, then it's basically the same thing. Or you could write a poem.
ninehundredlives: ([ my heart is heavy enough ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I used to, when I was younger. Write poems. I'm not really interested in doing it now...
matchbreaker: (WITH CRUEL INTENTIONS)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-21 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well no one was forcing you, I'm more saying not like anyone knew them enough to write a eulogy.
ninehundredlives: ([ you are my star ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[She wasn't meaning to be combative, just stating a fact...]

That's pretty much why. It'd feel more maudlin than meaningful.
matchbreaker: (She-Hulk!)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-21 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It'd be pretty... tacky? Honestly, I'm still not sure how I feel about there being these "graves" in general.
ninehundredlives: ([ and in the end ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs.]

It isn't something I'd have done. But if someone likes it, I guess it doesn't hurt anything either.
matchbreaker: (Captain Marvel)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-09-21 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You're adding to it though, aren't you? Do you feel bad for it to be anonymous as long as it's going to exist...?

[ a hand brushes under her chin, resting her chin in her palm eventually. ]
ninehundredlives: ([ how this will end ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-23 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I didn't really think about it that much.

[But she stops, rolling the pencil between her fingers as she considers.]

It's not like we'll just forget they're dead. But I don't think they're the last. Not even close. If people go on dying - if we have new murders to deal with - this is all going to start to seem like a distant memory. It won't be anyone's fault. People can only deal with so much.

But right now, I remember them as well as I'm ever going to. If I ever want to do this, I need to do it now.

kitchen

[personal profile] innocentloveholic 2017-09-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ Given her rusty cooking experience, Aligula... also tends to default either to toast or to whatever someone's already making, so she's equally as disgruntled about the missing toaster.

She's content to watch Susan look for it though, at least until it becomes very apparent it's not here? And then she'll speak up— ]

Why can't we hold a trial for the mysterious disappearance of our toaster? Not the death-causing kind, I totally don't think someone's gotta die because they decided to snatch it, but like, an investigative... trial... thingy.
ninehundredlives: ([ got to flee ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really want to go back in that room if we don't need to. It could take hours...

[She just wanted some toast, damn]

[personal profile] innocentloveholic 2017-09-21 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooor maybe an hour into realizing we're totally serious about it they'd decide to just confess and give it back? [ ....... ] I don't think we can get into it without their permission anyway. It swung open automatically last time, right? It's probably controlled remotely or something like that.

[ ...aligula's other fun hobby is gizmos and gadgets, she likes messing with mechanical stuff. ]
ninehundredlives: ([ show it to ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. We could just circle some chairs. Or wait and see if they put it back. I don't know what you'd be doing with it, that you couldn't just leave it here...

...god, you don't suppose someone's gone and taken it apart?
innocentloveholic: stole the night away (08. remember how the stars)

[personal profile] innocentloveholic 2017-09-21 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing interesting you could make out of it with just toaster parts! You'd have to steal a bunch of other things if you really wanted to make something totally cool.

[ probably. i looked up "cool gadgets you can make out of a toaster" and got a bunch of recipes for food, so. ]

Maybe they're just really into toast and they took a bunch of bread too and now they're just having like, a toast party in their room?
ninehundredlives: ([ if not for the care ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking more of the people from the past. They might just want to see how it worked.
innocentloveholic: (12. ba duda ba duda ba duda badu)

[personal profile] innocentloveholic 2017-09-23 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
...So what I'm totally hearing is our toaster is possibly taken apart and totally irreparable because there's no way someone from ye olde times knows how to put one back together after they take it apart.
ninehundredlives: ([ don't you worry love ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-24 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
They might have at least gone after a washer. We've got a whole rooms' worth of those.
innocentloveholic: were singing (06. in the key that our souls)

[personal profile] innocentloveholic 2017-09-24 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And there's a lot more for them to poke around and mess with too! But I guess they're not as portable or easy to hide as a toaster.
ninehundredlives: ([ knock knock ])

[personal profile] ninehundredlives 2017-09-24 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They just had to be sneaky about it. I'm sure somebody would have just explained how it worked if they asked. Even I know that, and I hardly know anything about machines...
