WEEK 2 Two people are dead. Jean Kirstein and Caren have both died due to a tragic accident. Of course, you're not entirely innocent, are you? You voted, you played into this game the Coordinators are running. But you know the stakes now. You know what failure to complete Rule Seven really means. No more excuses from here on out. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Of course, exploring the building from here on will reveal something new: namely, a stairwell in the northeastern corner, leading upwards toward a new floor entirely. Another sign of how things are going to progress around here, maybe; chances are you'll enjoy what you've been given, but was it worth the lives of two people to obtain? Well, everyone else's told me that the kitchen restocks things, do it could be that the fabric's also infinite?

[ . . . Yeah she'll just be perched on this armrest and curling her toes (no shoes, of course, she's not had them this whole time) to keep her balance. ]

[bloodbiter]

That is true... Perhaps if it somehow replenishes itself soon, I'll see about using more of it, then.

[A beat.]

It can't be very comfortable for you to sit like that, can it?

[matchbreaker]

Oh no, I'm good! I can watch what you're doing better like this!

[ . . . and apparently she's got some balance. ... and she's a waif so it doesn't seem to be toppling the chair. ]

[bloodbiter]

If you're certain.

[She looks back at her progress, tilting her head.]

What would you like to talk about, while I work?

[matchbreaker]

[ Mmmm... good question-- oh. actually. ]

... So what even is your world like if you don't know what bats are?

[bloodbiter]

What is it like?

[A small chuckle.]

It's hard to find the words to describe an entire world. I hadn't seen much of it at all until recently. If I had to decide... It's both beautiful and dangerous.

[matchbreaker]

Yeah, that's fair.

[ Beautiful, huh. ]

Okay, sos let's back up, wha's your family like?

[bloodbiter]

[She doesn't mind talking about it, especially with Elda, but...]

It's not the happiest topic at the moment. I would understand if you didn't want to hear about that in particular.

[matchbreaker]

[ . . . Well, shit. She frowns, rocking a bit in her crouch. Does she want to just let it die on the vine? a part of her does, honestly. The concerns of some random human girl (more or less a stranger) aren't... hers. Of course they aren't. But at the same time... her toes curl and uncurl once before she exhales. ]

That's on you, if you want to get into it; we're just gossiping here.

[bloodbiter]

I don't have any trouble discussing it, if you want to hear it.

[She's too polite to not at least issue a warning, though, even if she doesn't mind discussing it.]

When I was young, my mother died of an illness we call the Gray Death. My father and I aren't close... I'm not certain if he was too busy to spend much time with my sister and I, or if he just didn't care to do so, but it doesn't much matter to me, because I have Meryl.

[A fond smile, but one with a tinge of worry, crosses her face.]

She's my older sister, and she's - everything to me, truly. I was rather timid and easily frightened when I was younger, and she has always been there to protect me and make certain I feel safe.

[matchbreaker]

[ But if it's not the happiest topic at the moment then... it's only natural to assume that something happened to the other girl, or that her dad turned on them even more, right? Elda exhales a little bit more. How and why is she getting into this? Why should - does - she care?

It's typical royal brat stuff. Her profile said she was a princess...

The older woman nods. ]

Nice to hear you had that.

[bloodbiter]

...Yes. Once I return home, I'll still have her soon.

[matchbreaker]

That seem assured with that dream you said you had?

[bloodbiter]

Yes.

[A pause, before she decides to elaborate.]

Recently, she became... Very ill, with a disease that is always fatal. Our people know that a cure will be found someday, though, so - when she became sick, I left to look for it. My dream was about coming very close to doing so. Although, calling it a dream... [A small frown.] I know that they happened while we were asleep, so it may seem like a dream, but... It seemed more real to me.

[matchbreaker]

[ Honestly... yes, it seemed as such to her too. She frowns a little bit and nods ]

Mmm. You're not wrong, based on my experiences. I'm not sure how it all tracks.

[ Rocks, rock... ]

How can you know a cure's out there if it's basically always fatal?

[bloodbiter]

It was foretold in a prophecy that one would be found someday, and the prophecies of specters always come true. Now, it's more a matter of when than if, and - based on that strange vision, I wonder if I might have found it already.

[matchbreaker]

[ . . . Oh.

Wow? ]

Ghosts know the future?

[bloodbiter]

A specter isn't the same thing as a ghost. They're monsters who appear as your loved ones or people you would naturally trust in order to lure you to your death. If you're able to see past the illusion, they are bound to answer one question for you, sometimes in the form of a prophecy.

[matchbreaker]

Oh.

[ . . . ]

Man, things really are magical for you! I've never heard of something so fantastical being real, let alone able to shape some kingdom's policy!

[ Said the 233 year old. ]

[bloodbiter]

[A small smile.]

You aren't the first person here to be surprised, truthfully. It can be very useful, though.

[matchbreaker]

Oh no, I'd bet. If they have to answer true, I guess they just know a lot of things for it to be important.

[ Which is sort of neat. ]

[bloodbiter]

Yes. They're all knowing, so we can be certain anything that they say is accurate information.

She keeps crouched here, humming some... ]

Well, here's hoping you can pop on back and fulfill that.

I pray that I can as well. It was incredibly inconvenient for me to arrive here, but... That’s why I’m a bit hopeful that we’re really experiencing our memories over again. If that were the case, perhaps she’s already healthy again and I just don’t recall it yet.

[matchbreaker]

You think there's more to them?

[ That'd probably not be all that bad for her and it'd be straight up good for adelina. But then... Sayaka...
