WEEK 2.

WEEK 2

Two people are dead. Jean Kirstein and Caren have both died due to a tragic accident. Of course, you're not entirely innocent, are you? You voted, you played into this game the Coordinators are running. But you know the stakes now. You know what failure to complete Rule Seven really means.

No more excuses from here on out.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

Of course, exploring the building from here on will reveal something new: namely, a stairwell in the northeastern corner, leading upwards toward a new floor entirely. Another sign of how things are going to progress around here, maybe; chances are you'll enjoy what you've been given, but was it worth the lives of two people to obtain?

Mm, humanity has come a long way since our beginnings. Hell, we still lived in caves until a few thousand years ago. Two hundred years ago, we didn't have electricity in our homes. [ She kicks her legs idly as they dangle over the edge of the bookcase. ]

But human nature doesn't change much, I think, even across different realities. Mine's got plenty of people like Jean-kun.

Even for me, I've only got legends and stories for things before what I've witnessed myself [ She'll admit that. ] But the souls of men are the same as ever, I'm certain of it.

[ . . . You know- ] Does that mean what's not human in your world isn't hidden from sight?

My world has ghouls, who live hidden in human society, or as hermits outside of it. They look just like us, so many of them attempt to assimilate with the humans and live a human lifestyle. It's dangerous, though; if they're caught in ghoul activities or are suspected of being a ghoul, investigators can kill or apprehend them.

[ . . . Well that's familiar. She gaze turns downcast, looking at Chie's legs for a moment before she rights herself. ]

Ghouls sounds like such a sinister name to my ears, but then I suppose I'm not from that world.

[ Ghouls, ghouls... ghosts? It sounds so undead. ]

[ The way Elda is looking at her legs is making Chie wonder if things might be that way in her world, too. Humans really don't change no matter what world they reside in, huh. She's not going to ask about that, though. ]

What's so sinister about the name?

Word association, really... ghouls and ghosts and goblins. The whole thing sounds a little... undead, I suppose. I'm sure that's not the case though.
shuttermouse: (UHH ❈ don't push the red button)

Ah, I see... [ She shakes her head. ] Ghouls aren't undead or anything like that. They're just like any other species on the planet; they're no more supernatural than... I don't know, cats or frogs.

That's the same with my people, for the record.

[ Even if she is 233. All this might and magic, man... that's so strange. ]
