greenmamabear: (Happy happy happy talk?)

I don't believe in fretting and greiving, why mess around with strife?

[In some ways, this trial was simpler. The killer was lacking in remorse, the victim innocent. The lines were clearer. Was that better, or worse?

Either way, Fern and Alex make up something of a green team, preparing a meal in the kitchen. Nothing particularly complicated. Coffee and water for whoever want it is at one end of the dining table. Along the rest of it is a variety of foods. A plate of cheese and crackers, a bowl of salad and carrots for the healthy people, some handy finger sandwiches, and... a big pot of mac and cheese. What they lack in presentation they make up in sheer volume of food. That's a big tub of mac and cheese.

They struggle with the invitations for a bit before eventually coming up with possibly the most awkward phrasing possible. These notes are quietly shoved under doors with little fanfare more than a quick knock.

We got food in eat place. Food is good to eat. Enjoy food with us?

- Fern and Alex

[The dining area is lined up with some appropriate decorations, quick paper streamers and even some doodles that have been taped to the walls.

Its possible too simple. But maybe people need something simple to gorge on after a complicated day.

That kind of thing...that exists, where you come from?

[...what the fuck, that sounds somewhat mortifying. To have that kind of power in her hands to do stuff with, that's...]

...She does seem a little nondescript, doesn't she? I don't think I've seen anything like that on her either, but that's strange. The only other place I could really think of is...possibly her back or chest? Which...both sounds horribly painful, but makes a lot of sense. It's always covered, no one would get to see it, and she could probably utilize it fairly easily.

[It makes sense to her, at least.]

That's so creepy, though.
explosivecombat: (I like the way you think)

Ah...

[That seems to amuse him a little, really...]

I don't mean to give you the wrong idea, as it's not really anything to be afraid of, under normal contexts. Objects like that are highly sought-after by alchemists, actually; we can do a lot of things with them, it doesn't all have to be horribly destructive or threatening like that. Even Miss Larimore could do some fairly brilliant things with arrays and items like that, if she stopped...well, doing this for longer than five minutes.

I always carry at least one of those artifacts on my person nowadays, just because they're so useful... I could show you, if you like.

[...That...does help to put her a little more at ease with the idea of such things existing, at least. And her eyes go wide with interest when he offers to show her one.]

Oh, certainly, I'd love to see it! I do admit, I'm curious as to what other sort of things these arrays might be able to do...you said that they require knowledge on the specific effect you want to create with them, so you must have seen a lot of interesting ones when you were out and about, right? Ones that people probably spent a lot of time refining and studying to perfect...

[...she most wants to know what kind of good things those arrays can do, but honestly, just hearing about them in general would be nice? It'll get her mind somewhere else, and she's very interested in this.]
explosivecombat: (Go on and keep that up)

[The sound that gets out of him is quiet but noticeably amused - not quite a laugh, but somewhere in that general vicinity.]

Arrays can do almost anything you want them to, as long as you have the materials to do it. Repairing mechanical things, creating things that we don't have an immediate supply of... Some people create artwork with theirs, they use it to make statues and sculptures, out of anything from stone to glass.

Most arrays I've seen are far more complicated than Isaac's or my own - ours are on the simpler side, but they're highly versatile and effective as a result. But alchemy is the art of transmuting one thing into something else, at its simplest. If mine is ever at a point where it can work here, I'll show you a few things; it's mostly combat-based, admittedly, but I can do basic things one-handed.

[He reaches into his inside jacket pocket then, pulling out a deep red crystal, narrow and faceted; he doesn't hand it directly to her, but he does ensure that she can see it.]

This is one of those artifacts that I was telling you about, however; it basically enhances my transmutations, and ensures that I can do more with less materials. They're valuable, for obvious reasons.

[So that's what it is? Alchemy...the art of transmuting something into something else...that sounds like a particularly complicated science, honestly, but it definitely catches Sayaka's interest as he talks more about it. She can only really imagine how they do those sorts of things, but her eyes just light right up as he talks about it.

The red crystal, though, that gets Sayaka's interest and she just plain peers at it. It's gorgeous, honestly--a nice, deep red, but really amazing too. To think that something so small could make impressive miracles...that's actually kind of awe inspiring?]

Ahh, that's incredibly pretty, Kimblee-san! [...Beat.] T-That probably...shouldn't be my first reaction to something like that...but to think that something as small as that could create something so many miracles, it's wonderful! I can see where they'd be so incredibly valuable...they could probably be used with automail too, right? You could do so much for so much less, and be able to make people even happier even faster...

[...she kind of just clasps her hands in front of her with an awed expression.]

It's so wonderful, Kimblee-san! I'd be more than happy to see you make use of it, too!

[You know what, if discussing this is getting some sort of actual genuine feelings out of Sayaka, then that's...

...Well, he supposes it's worth it, albeit a little gross because he doesn't really do feelings. At least she seems a little less...blatantly dead inside.]

That's the sort of thing that draws many people to practice alchemy to begin with, you know - alchemy is to be used, first and foremost, for the benefit of humanity. Exactly what that means differs, from person to person - whether it's solely to be used for aesthetic purposes to make people happy, or for practical reasons to make people's lives easier, or utilized to defend our country and ensure that things remain safe for the civilian population... Everyone has their own boundaries. But the basic tenet of 'be thou for the people' is the same between us.
destage: (DISTANT ♡ Do you have a dream?)

[Look, don't feeling shame her over there--]

...It really does sound like alchemy is what someone makes of it, and...that honestly sounds beautiful. That everyone has this chance to make something--that as long as they know what they're doing, they have a chance to make something for themselves, that's beautiful and all their own. No one can take that from them...no one can take their place from the world.

[...]

...That tenet you all share, it's...honestly very admirable, I think.

I'm glad that you think so, Miss Maizono; it's good to hear it.

Perhaps you can learn one day, if you're that interested in it. I'd be interested to see what you create with it.

[...Kimblee, no, that's just going to make her emote harder--]

Really?! Do you think I'd do well with it? I don't know what I'd want to focus on, but...I'd love to be able to learn and see where it goes!

[...oh no this is precious]

I think you'd have potential to do well with it - I don't see why you wouldn't.
