[In some ways, this trial was simpler. The killer was lacking in remorse, the victim innocent. The lines were clearer. Was that better, or worse?

Either way, Fern and Alex make up something of a green team, preparing a meal in the kitchen. Nothing particularly complicated. Coffee and water for whoever want it is at one end of the dining table. Along the rest of it is a variety of foods. A plate of cheese and crackers, a bowl of salad and carrots for the healthy people, some handy finger sandwiches, and... a big pot of mac and cheese. What they lack in presentation they make up in sheer volume of food. That's a big tub of mac and cheese.

They struggle with the invitations for a bit before eventually coming up with possibly the most awkward phrasing possible. These notes are quietly shoved under doors with little fanfare more than a quick knock.

We got food in eat place. Food is good to eat. Enjoy food with us?

[The dining area is lined up with some appropriate decorations, quick paper streamers and even some doodles that have been taped to the walls.

Its possible too simple. But maybe people need something simple to gorge on after a complicated day.]

[The sewing stops for a moment as Rin's hand stills at the hand crank, glancing up from what she's working on. Hi, Adelina.]

These? It's nothing special, just a few hair ribbons. I have no plans for them, really, but I've always liked making them.

It seems like something calming to focus on.

[With some curiosity, she takes a step into the room, sitting at one of the sewing machines with no intention to use it.]

Do you ever make anything other than hair ribbons, or are your efforts focused there?

Only the ribbons, if you're counting things from scratch. It's easier to buy clothes, so I use my sewing machine to patch up holes or reattach buttons, more than anything.

I see. You must have seamstresses readily available where you come from, then.

[She looks towards one of the sewing machines, smiling faintly.]

They seem like useful devices, certainly. I'd never seen one before I came here.

This one is considered old-fashioned by my time's standards. I think it has some of the others spooked.

[A small smile.]

Has it been difficult for you to grow accustomed to something so old fashioned? It's certainly strange for me to be surrounded by so many things I do not recognize.

Not at all. If anything, I feel at home in rooms like this one.

Did you spend a great deal of time in these sort of places back in your home, then?

Nothing so grand as the dining hall and ballroom downstairs. [She lives in a mansion, not a castle.] But the decor is similar, from the style of furniture, to the wallpaper they use, and a preference for antique devices like this.

[There's a nostalgic look on her face, and as if realizing that she shakes her head.]

Because of that, it feels comfortable to me even when it shouldn't.

I suppose that there's no harm to finding comfort in whatever we can here. At least you recognize that this is a place we should not let our guard down in.

You must have fond memories of the place this reminds you of.

[That this is a place she can't let her guard down in has been the one thing she can't forget.]

Naturally. [She laughs, lightly.] I already said it, didn't I? I feel at home.

[There's a light smile at the laugh, with an edge of curiosity contained therein.]

Would you tell me more about it? The place that you're reminded of.

Hm? What makes you so interested?

...I see no reason not to be.

[A pause, while she decides how to phrase her clarification.]

Easily the most enjoyable part of being here for me is the opportunity to learn about everyone else and the life they led before they arrived here. It is fascinating to hear about it all.

It is interesting, I guess, but it's hard to top someone who lives in a castle. [Sigh.] My mansion will seem plain by comparison.

[Granted, Adelina seems to be from a time where even simple modern day things haven't been thought of, so she might be very impressed. But castles.]

[She shakes her head.]

It will seem interesting to me because it's so different from my own experiences. Besides, if you live in a time where these machines seem old fashioned... [She gestures towards a sewing machine.] Then I'm certain everything will seem fascinating to me.

Well, I have no reason not to humor you. Let's see... If we start from the exterior, there are two floor, plus an attic. The mansion is made out of brick that's become worn down over the years, but is still attractive. Recently, the ivy has started to crawl over the structure, but it adds a certain level of charm, I think.

I see. How long have you lived there?

Since the day I was born. My family has lived there for generations, and on the same land for longer than that.

I see. It must be a wonderful home if none of them have ever parted from it.

It's a wonderful home even if they have. People can't live forever, but buildings can stand the test of time and hold their memories.

[There are a lot of memories in that house. Ambitions and careful planning. If the walls could talk, they'd speak of days of hard work, all in the pursuit of the same dream.]
