That's interesting. What sorts of dishes are your specialty?

Mostly curry! If you've seen it at the party, that's usually what I make; it's simple, filling, and can be quite delicious. I like to do savory dishes most of all, even if most of my specialties lie in vegetables. I've gotta keep my figure up, after all.

People seem to think those of us with strict diets are missing out, but I've found it's only encouraged me to get the most out of my meals. There are all kinds of exciting ways to prepare food that's good for you. Maybe someday we can exchange recipes. Chinese cooking is my specialty, so I know a few curry dishes.
- Rin Tohsaka
[She said "maybe" in there, but this note comes with a recipe scribbled in the margins, with little doodles of all the ingredients in them. The vegetables kind of look like they're dancing around a pot.]

Tohsaka-san,
I think they're just kids who haven't gotten the taste of terribly boiled vegetables out of their system yet. You can do a lot of things with vegetables when you realize that boiling them isn't the sole way.
I wouldn't mind exchanging recipes, though, and thank you so much! Here, you can have mine in return!
- Sayaka Maizono
[Sure enough, there's a recipe in the margins! Sayaka is...admittedly not much of an artist, but there's a stick figure with stirring a pot that has pigtails? ...She tried.]

Maizono-san,
The recipe you sent me in return is appreciated, as are the detailed instructions! In terms of more harmless secrets, I confess I'm actually terrible with Japanese cooking. I don't even know how to prepare miso soup. Thankfully curry is curry, no matter where it comes from, so I should be able to follow this well. I'm looking forward to being able to make something with authentic Japanese flavors for myself. Thank you.
- Rin Tohsaka
PS. That was a cute fairy!
[More doodles here. Because she misinterpreted Sayaka's drawing, they're mostly scribbles resembling mythical creatures, and the dragon has an apron that says "Kiss the Chef" for some reason.]

Tohsaka-san,
It's no problem! I prefer to be detailed when it comes to recipes; it's something of a habit of mine. If you'd like, I wouldn't mind trying to teach you how to make some more dishes. If it helps, I'm not good at many things outside of japanese dishes. So I don't judge you at all for that, for sure.
- Sayaka Maizono
PS. Those doodles are so cute! I wish I could draw as well as you!

It's only awkward since I am Japanese myself, but that's something I'd be happy to correct. Do you like any Western or Chinese dishes? Maybe I can trade you those kinds of recipes, and we can both learn something new.
- Rin Tohsaka
PS. Are they? I think they're a little cartoony, but I don't mind since that's the best I can do.

I don't think it's bad! Or even shameful, or anything like that. Sometimes we just excel in different areas, you know? It's nothing to be ashamed of, and if anyone tries to make you feel shame for that, they're being cruel.
As for that...I'm actually not really sure I've tried anything like that off the top of my head? I think the closest I've really gotten is making an omelette when we didn't have any rice once or twice. I've got an adventurous streak going, though, and I wouldn't mind trying something new!
- Sayaka Maizono

I think that will be a splendid trade, then. And an adventurous streak, you say? How has it fared for you thus far?
- Rin Tohsaka

Excellent! And...well enough, I'd say? I'm probably gonna be feeling it in the morning, even though I didn't do too much.
- Sayaka Maizono

Oh! By feeling it, do you mean that???
- Rin Tohsaka

Yeah, I drank a bit. Wine with chamomile tea...it's kind of the worst thing in the world, and I don't recommend it.
- Sayaka Maizono

Maizono-san,
I'll say. You ruin the flavors drinking them together like that. Or were you using the tea as a pallet cleanser?
- Rin Tohsaka

I've never drank before, how am I supposed to know what to mix and what not to? [There's a little drawing of...an angry face with puffed cheeks there.] Honestly, I thought it'd be okay. I like chamomile, so I thought it'd mix decently enough. I've never drank before...

You can really get through a year dry? You're twice as impressive as I thought...
Wine and most alcoholic beverages are an acquired taste, so I'm unsurprised it didn't agree with you. You'll probably find port wine more to your liking.

Idols aren't allowed to drink. Or smoke or...really, do anything that would make us look like a bad influence. I'll have to see if I can find that stuff if I do it again, though.
- Sayaka Maizono

I know all of that, I just always guessed they did it behind closed doors anyways, since that's what I do.
...I became popular for specific reasons, one of which was to ensure I would always be beyond approach and reproach. Whenever I'm in public, all eyes are on me, but the trade-off is that my private time is always my own.
Thinking on it, it's probably a luxury I'm allowed because I'm a school idol and not a real celebrity. But for you, privacy must be an illusion, I take it.

You imply that we'd ever actually have time for any of that. No, if our managers got wind of us doing something bad...they'd have ways of making sure we didn't. Outside of all of the cameras, but...they're a very good deterrent, especially since they can make something from nothing.
You're not wrong, though. I've never had this much alone time since I was back at home, honestly. They always found something for me to do, and relied on me to do it. I didn't have any time for myself that wasn't spent at school, sleeping, or at work. I honestly envy you, in that regard.

The way it sometimes happens when you press hard enough with a pen on one paper that an indentation is left on the one beneath it. They're long, dragging lines in this instance.]
Maizono-san,
I liked the life I lived. I've worked hard to be able to enjoy myself, and have the freedom that I did. But it had its drawbacks. Knowing why you became an idol, I think you'd actually hate it.
Still, I was as happy as I could be. I only know how to live my life selfishly, so that's the best thing I can encourage you to do.
So long as you're here and it doesn't cause anyone else problems, you should continue to embrace doing as you want. I might not be a celebrity idol, but I know how tiring it can be when you can never act like your real self. So take this opportunity. The circumstances are dreadful, but it's a good one.
