No, he's a mage as well, albeit a complete novice. We're technically on opposing sides in a war, so since he dared to come to school as normal without protecting himself despite knowing I'd be there, I had to teach him a lesson.

If he asks you what he can do to set things right, you could always make up something and act like it's fine after the fact. If he believes you, then you've returned to the status quo.

[And maybe along the way, Kyrie would find less reason to hate him? It's a potential win/win, the way Rin sees it.]
