One day we'll reach to emotions: unexplored, unprecedented
[ Sometime shortly after the trial small notes will be folded underneath the doors of everyone still alive, and also posted to the staircase leading up to the upper floors. Not many of you have probably seen Elda's penmanship yet unless you checked that Penmanship check a while back, but it's impossibly impeccable fancy cursive script, to match with her old timey appearance. ... She also writes a lot more proper than she talks. ]
[ she's being somewhat facetious about half the group, but the fact does remain that she got more offers than she expected, when she set out to do this. She had expected that Sayaka would help, and indeed both her and Alex provide cookies and curry for the tables. Elda herself sets up the tables, dotting one longer central one made of smaller ones in the ballroom for things to sit on. The bulk of the food's provided by Tarrlok of all people, Chinese food by any other name. Susan, bless her, provides alcohol. Hibki, once she was clean, decided to run backup on preparing the food.
And then perhaps fittingly, Aligula provided the decorations. Steamers line the room, and little cut outs hang around. At Elda's instruction, it's a mix of cats, snakes, and bats. The majority of them have little faces on them. And finally, as and afterthought more than anything else, Elda makes some tea.
... Said tea is black tea and is impossibly dark and bitter because she can't taste it, but maybe that's what you want on a night like this. Who knows. ]
To My Fellows,
The half of you who didn't assist me in this are cordially invited to a celebration of our continued living, and to the memories of those who aren't. We are a mismatched group,
but it has become increasingly clear that we are together in this. Do not allow yourself to be alone.
We will be congregating in the ballroom for the rest of the night.
Better chefs than I will be providing food.
Sincerely,
Elda Marker

Oh, uh- I...wanted to see how you were doing, really. ...The later it gets on these days, the harder it...you know.
no subject
Come on, girl, she'll wave you in.]
I'm...better, actually. Getting myself to cry a bit was good, earlier, and I had a nice time at the bar, too. [Sayaka looks in her room a bit--it could use a little TLC, maybe she'll get to that tomorrow, but her small bundle of stuffed animals are on her unmade bed, and there seems to be a plate she forgot to take.] I understand, though. It was...kind of a mess today, all things considered, but you know you can come to me any time.
[...Some things don't change, basically.]
What about you? Talk to me, if you'd like.
no subject
I know. [ A gentle voice. ] I'm... I'm kind of the same, you know? Some time alone, some at the gathering. ...It was nice cooking together, or like...following your instructions. [ Since she's just sorta good at that for baking. ] I'm... I dunno, I keep thinking about them? Mikoto and Terumi.
no subject
[She'll go over and close the door, real quick, and...Alex did her plenty of frighten at the trial, so once she gets back she's gonna hug her a bit, though it's light and she's not guiding her anywhere.]
I'm...honestly, I kind of am too. I didn't know Suoh-san as well as you did, but...Terumi-san and I talked a few times, so I can understand it a bit. What about 'em, though?
no subject
I don't think I really knew Mikoto. ...Or...Terumi, he kinda always scared me too much to ask, but...I don't know, I liked talking with them? Mikoto especially, he was gruff but there was this...he was sort of kind. He always seemed it, like this...lazy, standoffish big brother type. [ ...OHHHH there it...is... ] ...So this sort of...it surprised me.
no subject
She listens, though, calmly. Maybe tightening her hug a bit, but she lets Alex talk, and nods her head a bit to let her know she's not just. Falling asleep on her, if nothing else.]
Like...Jonas, you said your step brother's name was? [She peers a bit.] I wouldn't have taken him for the type, but it's like I said...I guess he must have had some kind of soft center, didn't he? Despite all of that, to be able to treat you kindly. It's...rather understandable, I think.
[Who could've guessed that anything like this would happen...]
...Terumi-san was scary, I'll agree with that much. He...did have a good ear for music, though.
no subject
She nods, a little. ] I guess he did remind me of him in some ways. Jonas is- he's quiet, but he tries. ...Okay, that part wasn't Mikoto- but...he was in juvie, you know? For...going off, after someone- made a bad comment about his mom. So everyone thought he was...scary. Like I was the girl with the dead brother. In all those memories, in some of them, we...we bonded. So, I kind of...got that feeling from Mikoto, and...
[ It helped. She sighs. ]
Projecting 101, am I right? Terumi- he wasn't...awful, really. Taught me a little about carving, of course that guy could use a knife.
no subject
...I mean, you're asking the absolute wrong person about projecting. [She doesn't say it cruelly, though, just kind of...neutral, if anything.] I don't think it's bad to see similarities in the people here, and the people you know. I could sort of see where you got that from, from what little I saw of him in the trials...he seemed kind of like a 'come what may' sort.
[...Can they cuddle, Sayaka's gonna just...gonna bury her head a bit on Alex's shoulder.]
...It must have meant the world to you, to have someone like that here. Yeah?
no subject
Yeah... I don't think I really realized it until now. To know he was so messed up, and not to have an idea why, I...
[ ... ]
I wish I could've helped him. That I could've said or done something to stop all that.
no subject
...Don't we all wish that? [She knows she still does.] I don't think that he was beyond saving, but it...feels like a shame that he...gave up, so easily. They both kind of did, when...Terumi-san brought up being worse than dead. I don't understand them, myself, I mean...anything can change, and they were clearly alive enough to do it. It feels like they wasted it...
[...She goes quieter, there. It's...clearly a subject that hitting her a little hard.]
Life is an opportunity, and...this one, even more so. That's what I think.
no subject
[ A tone of fear in Alex's voice, as she cuddles in close to Sayaka. ]
Worse than dead. Nowhere to go, a...dead-end. Part of me worries, if they hadn't given up...what kind of answers they would've found. If that might've...actually been worse. ...It's sick to think that.
[ It's clearly something sitting hard with her, too. ]
I don't know.
no subject
Sayaka's eyes light up in recognition, but probably not for the reason Alex expects. That's...honestly, that's a horrifying thought. If they'd gone down that path, only to become a bunch of...ghosts, who possess someone she adores...
God. Sayaka's hand goes into Alex's hair to just...kind of run her fingers through it, to try and calm her a bit.]
...I think I understand what you mean. It'd...be a horrifying end for people like them.
[...She pauses for a bit, before...well, speaking up again, but it's a bit lighter. Maybe it's just to get their minds off of this, but...]
...Hey. I have something to ask you, actually...
no subject
A question? Uh... Go ahead, I'm all ears.
no subject
Do you...have any plans, for when we get out of here? [Not if. When. Sayaka wants to believe that much.] Like...anywhere you absolutely have to go.
no subject
...I...don't know if...how they'd react, but...I want to...see my family. My mom, and my step-dad, and...Jonas. ...And my friends who were on the island. [ Clarissa. She has to apologize. ] After that, I... I don't know.
no subject
...I don't know if I'll be going back home myself, honestly. But...um...Mo--Elda offered to take me back to Shihaba with her, and she told me that if...I wanted, and you were okay with it? You could come with me too. You know, if you...if you want to.
[...Her gaze averts and her cheeks color a bit? But at least she remembered to ask this time.]
no subject
...With you? [ It's a little shocked, but in a breathy kind of voice. ] I... You mean to live?
no subject
[Ahhh god, she's going redder and redder, she thought admitting her feelings was tough but this is somehow harder?]
S-She said she was okay, so...I...yeah.
no subject
But if...I can do both, th-then...
no subject
[Sayaka clutches a little tighter. She doesn't want to think that she'll have to make a decision, and she promised the Sunken she'd get Alex out of...that horrible, horrible place she was locked in, but...]
no subject
[ She just...she hesitates and bites her lip. ]
I just...don't know if they'd, um...if it'd be like with Clarissa, when I locked her in there in the other...timelines. If they...would forget about me, s-so, it's all kind of...
[ ...Up in the air. ]
no subject
"You're saying you'll protect her. You'll keep her safe?"
"...I will. I--I will. I swear on my life, that I'll keep her safe. She's my best friend, after all."]
...Where there's a will, there's a way, Alex. There always is, and...
["We have come to want her to survive...outside of the void that traps us."
"Take her away from there.]
We'll find it. I...I like you, after all, what kind of girlfriend would I be if I couldn't even help you...?
["Strange...girl. We..."
Sayaka brings Alex in close, and kisses her forehead.]
...I'm sorry. I didn't realize that...asking that would be so horrid. But I swear--I swear I'll find a way. No matter what it takes. We'll see your family, and I'll do everything I can to help.
[...Perhaps she needs to speak with them again, sometime. Maybe she could take Alex's place...]
I swear on my life.
no subject
All she knows is her girlfriend's being sweet to her, comforting her. Alex reaches up and puts her hands on Sayaka's wrists, with an almost serene smile. ]
It wasn't horrid, really. It's...actually really nice to think about. About- choices to make, or options. I was starting to think I didn't have any of those.
...With your support, I...it even feels kind of like I can do anything again.
