One day we'll reach to emotions: unexplored, unprecedented
[ Sometime shortly after the trial small notes will be folded underneath the doors of everyone still alive, and also posted to the staircase leading up to the upper floors. Not many of you have probably seen Elda's penmanship yet unless you checked that Penmanship check a while back, but it's impossibly impeccable fancy cursive script, to match with her old timey appearance. ... She also writes a lot more proper than she talks. ]
[ she's being somewhat facetious about half the group, but the fact does remain that she got more offers than she expected, when she set out to do this. She had expected that Sayaka would help, and indeed both her and Alex provide cookies and curry for the tables. Elda herself sets up the tables, dotting one longer central one made of smaller ones in the ballroom for things to sit on. The bulk of the food's provided by Tarrlok of all people, Chinese food by any other name. Susan, bless her, provides alcohol. Hibki, once she was clean, decided to run backup on preparing the food.
And then perhaps fittingly, Aligula provided the decorations. Steamers line the room, and little cut outs hang around. At Elda's instruction, it's a mix of cats, snakes, and bats. The majority of them have little faces on them. And finally, as and afterthought more than anything else, Elda makes some tea.
... Said tea is black tea and is impossibly dark and bitter because she can't taste it, but maybe that's what you want on a night like this. Who knows. ]
To My Fellows,
The half of you who didn't assist me in this are cordially invited to a celebration of our continued living, and to the memories of those who aren't. We are a mismatched group,
but it has become increasingly clear that we are together in this. Do not allow yourself to be alone.
We will be congregating in the ballroom for the rest of the night.
Better chefs than I will be providing food.
Sincerely,
Elda Marker

[She'll be careful, she promises. Sayaka's been pretty lucky so far, but then again, she knows where to stay away from on Thursdays.
...Ah, that...huh, she wasn't expecting the offense but she doesn't seem to shrink from it or anything. She'll take another drink from her glass while he speaks, before shaking her head.]
Different people believe different things, but I can understand what you mean. It must be nice to get some peace and quiet in here, right?
[She can take it or leave it, personally, but company's mostly preferred, she's found.]

Ah, already had one of those, did you? That's bound to happen sooner or later.
[Not everyone has the same limits when it comes to alcohol tolerance.
He'll wave off the second bit.]
The wording was phrased a bit strongly is what I'm getting at. But...yeah, it is. That is why I keep coming here despite...everything. [Vague gesturing, but he figures that Sayaka knows what he's getting at with it.] I prefer it over my actual room.

[There's that tone, freely coming out again. Of course, what made her swear back on it was uh. Solf J Kimblee's wild ride, so let's just leave it on that salt filled note.]
Ah, I see, then. [She gets it, dude, she gets it.] Honestly, those rooms are far too soundproof for their own good. It's practically one of the most oppressive things about the place? Other than, you know. Everything else. [AGGRESSIVELY SIPS HER DRINK.] I almost wish one of those pianos came up here, though. A little music, it'd make the place a bit more...I don't know, like the bars you see on TV.

It really is. But of course, the Coordinators simply couldn't let us hear any potential murders. It wouldn't be interesting at all if the culprit was discovered before a trial.
[His tone is just...so full of sarcasm and irritation there. There was a murder right fucking next door to him, and he no doubt would've heard something if not for the soundproofing.
...but enough about that.]
What, are you saying you would volunteer to provide some of it? Bar performances often involve singers, you know.

[Thankfully there's only really been one murder in a room, but...christ alive, that's hideous to think about. For...multiple reasons, actually, but she's not inclined to go further.
...That question, though, that...actually gets her to smile a little bit? Like she's actually considering it for a moment.]
Well, I wouldn't mind, but I doubt anyone who comes by here to drink is gonna want to listen to some sort of upbeat pop tune, though, are they? My voice is probably a little too high register to give this place the atmosphere it needs--I'll have to practice a little lower.
[It's not quite a yes, but not quite a no?]

[Ugh. That has been the most exhausting part for him, apart from culprits grandstanding until voting goes up.]
...No, I suppose not. [He...laughs a little bit, admittedly.] But I doubt that's all you're capable of. Plenty of those sickly-sweet pop acts put on a slow ballad or two, don't they?
[...he also means no offense by "sickly-sweet" for the record. He might act all high and mighty sometimes but he definitely indulges in that genre of music from time to time.]
no subject
[...That actually gets a pause? Not for the reason he's likely suspecting--believe her, she's got...very little love for the business itself anymore, but she...hmm.]
I've been able to adapt my songs to fit it, when I'm not in the studio. It's actually kind of nice to practice doing that? And...I don't know. I think it's nice without all of the mixing that gets done, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion.
[She shrugs, but she seems to smile a bit. She honestly wouldn't mind it at all.]
