Week 2.

WEEK 2 Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process. (As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.) Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done. It happened there, at the lodge, with th-the saws and the- God i-it cut right through h-him!

What? You've-- slow down, you saw somebody attack someone else with a saw? Before you came here?

[She nods, hands to her face. The crumpled letter in her fist- it falls to the floor.]

H- it was all o-over me, oh-

[She tries rubbing at the left side of her face, the part that's raw. It hurts, it hurts so much, but she has to be sure it has to all be off her]

Ashley, whatever's happened, it's gone now. There's nothing on your face except for the burns you're getting from rubbing it. What on earth... what I remembered was nothing like that!

[That...does get her to stop the frantic action, but she looks at Elise, sniffling.] No, he- the maniac, he was still there! It's not gone, he- he's pr-probably killed the rest of my friends a-and I'm- h-here...!

You mean... you were rescued from some murderer, only to be put into this?

That's sure what it s-sounds like, huh? Oh God, why did s-someone even do that, what- what kind of sick person-?

[She really doesn't know what to do here. She looks around nervously and walks slowly toward Ashley.]

Whoever it is, he isn't here. I know it isn't much comfort in this... this school, or whatever it's supposed to be, but you're here now. This is the mail room, there's nothing on you.

[She doesn't move. Looks like she's pretty stuck on the freeze part option of fight, flight, or etc.]

N-not yet. It'll just- something'll just happen here. I- I survived that for nothing.

Do you really think we're all going to die here?

Not only that. [Her mouth is dry.] He- my friend already- died s-so I could live.

...It's possible. You can still live, can't you? It's hard to believe, but it's sensible to cling to that hope. We don't know everything yet.

[For a moment, she doesn't answer, just shuts her eyes and cries.]

I want to believe that.

I don't know if it'll happen. I'll be clear with you on that. But I think it can happen, so you'll be able to live. All right? You can send your letter, I'll step out of the way.

[Sniff.] You're really, really good, you know that, Elise?

Me? I don't... I-I mean. I'm just doing what anybody would, aren't I? Though I certainly don't blame you for noticing! Somebody's got to be civil in this mess of a school!

This place is so awful, it's just...nice to have someone kind around.

...Thank you. I. It's good to hear that. I mean, it's obvious, isn't it? You're one of the people in here who hasn't done a thing to anyone, so naturally-- ...well. It's all right. I'll try to ensure that no one bothers you, if you need it.
