Week 2.

WEEK 2

Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process.

(As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.)

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done.

PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 27

[OOC: Welcome to week two of Trustfell! Save your threads for coins and the coming week's activity check; don't forget to check in to this week's activity check and submit your memory regains as well!

The Letters and Switchboard posts are still active, for the sake of contacting the jerk who's keeping you here, to be used at your leisure!]

[ What are you, Mordecai, someone's dad?

Jean appreciates the advice, however, and makes no protests as Mordecai starts to fuss.
] You sound like you've got a lot of experience with this sort of thing.

[No, he likes the soldier-in-training.]

Well, I have plenty of experience with trouble in general, and if you're also gonna turn your room into a personal panic closet, best be smart with it. Been workin' on mine since last week.

[He doesn't have a bag or convenient cape with him, which means he'll have to take a few boxes of cereal in multiple trips.]

More experience than me, at least. [ Which isn't surprising, seeing as Mordecai is more than twice Jean's age...

Jean crosses to the pantry to retrieve more of the recommended items, starting with the jerky.
] When it's time to start hoarding and rationing food back home, the government takes charge before anyone else can.

Mighty smart of them, preventin' as much trouble as they can. [Some jerky for himself, too.]

...You mean government like your town, or government as the whole country? 'Cause it'd make for sense for the former, and it's mighty hard to keep track of food for thousands of folks.

For the whole kingdom. [ Is it really that unusual? ] Farms are valuable enough that they're already pretty closely watched, so I guess it's no trouble for them to decide what goes where.

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-10 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
You still live in a kingdom? Just what year are you from?

[Even if a monarchy still existed, he wouldn't refer to it as a kingdom, not if he wore those modern clothes. Unless, of course, he mixed up the historical timelines of the previous millennium.]

Forgive me if I'm not gettin' it, but even on Mars, farms ain't that closely monitored.
openterrain: (ᴏʜ where do we begin)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-11 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
850.

[ Considering he's heard years that date into the 2000's, he won't be surprised if Mordecai finds that positively ancient. ]

I don't know how it works in Mars, but last time we had a food shortage it caused a famine so bad it was easier for the government sent a quarter of a million to their death's rather than try to feed them all.
forcegalactic: (angry)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-11 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Eight hundred... [Yup, ancient history in his view.] That's when you had these lords bein' in total control of the farms, takin' away some of the crops in exchange for protectin' the farmers, only they never help up on their end of the promise.

Some government you got there! Good thing we learned how to be smarter with plantin' crops, 'cause that ain't any way to run a country. Why, if it were up to me, I'd focus on fixin' up town before anythin' else. Even on Mars, we know better than to kill off folks because of shortages.

[Maybe he would make a decent mayor, but that's impossible. He has no drive, and Mars already has Mayor Jim.]

[ Jean's not exactly in the mood to get lectured about how shitty his world is, even though he doesn't disagree with Mordecai's words. Mordecai does say something that confuses him, however. ]

What do you mean, 'if'? Aren't you a mayor?
forcegalactic: (why is there trouble in this place?)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
What's on my profile's as much of a fabrication as that photo I got from the vendin' machine!

Look, I voted for the mayor a couple weeks ago, and it ain't me!
openterrain: (ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ clouds roll over the hills)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, fine. [ Chill, Mordecai.

... it is odd, though.
] But why would he lie on just your profile? Everything on mine is accurate.
forcegalactic: (thinking)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-12 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[HE CANNOT CHILL. THIS DEMANDS HIS FULL ATTENTION.

But it's hard to stay mad when someone gives him the deadeye. Good job, Jean.
]

I have no idea. Might be due to his spies gettin' the wrong information. After all, you're in the army, they're bound to keep records on hand. Me? Just a bartender. They somehow got my height and weight just right, but my age is off a few years. I would think the latter's easiest to figure out.

...As for mayor...I was visitin' Jim not to long ago, guess they confused us two somehow.
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Military records... yeah, there should still be plenty. [ So there's explanation one. ] Is the mayor also a bartender? Maybe they meant to grab him and got you, instead.
forcegalactic: (not the MurderMen)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-12 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he's a local hero. He helped the Marshal out a few times, a really good people person, great at givin' speeches. Everyone knew him! [And that's why he won by a landslide.] Now, it'd make sense for him to get kidnapped, unless he was still out on his honeymoon. Next person they would pick is someone else who was at his house, which would include me...the previous marshal...and a writer.

[This makes even less sense the more he thinks about it. Everyone knows Sparks Nevada and Rebecca Rose Rushmore. In contrast, few people in town know Mordecai's full name.]

Guess they picked the target fewest folks would be upset about. [Which isn't a good thing to think about, as evidenced by Mordecai's worried expression.]
openterrain: (ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ clouds roll over the hills)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ 'Good at giving speeches' reminds Jean of Erwin. It makes him think Mordecai has a good point about not being missed. However... ]

That might make sense for you or me or Katsuki, but Logan and Yuuri are kings, Givanni and the twins are all leaders, and Reaver was some sort of important merchant.
forcegalactic: (why is there trouble in this place?)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-12 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! And that's what makes everythin' more confusin'! How do they kidnap a poor housewife along with some kings and folks with magic powers? It's like they hopped to our worlds, took a peek and went "oh, twentieth person we see, we take 'em, no matter who they are."

It's all random!
openterrain: (ᴏʜ where do we begin)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
... maybe not. We're supposed to be murdering people, remember?

Maybe they were trying to choose people that are likely to either murder someone, or likely to be be murdered.
forcegalactic: (not the MurderMen)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-12 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[His eyes widen in horror. He's a victim.]

Now if they wanted murdernin' why didn't they take, I don't know, Red? Even if lotsa folks'll miss her, she's got the temper for brawlin'! All I want is some peace and quiet!

[he'll be murdered, he'll be murdered, he'll be murdered]

Look, can we stop talkin' about this? I don't want to think about my own death and how my wife is gonna react.
openterrain: (ᴛᴏ my own devices)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ 'Maybe you're supposed to be one of the victims.'

... Is what Jean wants to say, but he figures he probably shouldn't stress Morty out any more than he already is.
]

Right, okay. Uh... [ He points at the cans. ] Do you usually have to make emergency stockpiles of food in Mars?
forcegalactic: (what the shit)

[personal profile] forcegalactic 2015-11-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Mordecai takes one last look at his own pile and picks up the boxes and puts them in his arms, one by one.]

No, not at all. We save food like any smart society should, lots of farms came to settle there, but starvation ain't as worrisome as it used to be back in the day. [Larges boxes first, then cans.] This is only for when I need to stay inside for safety. That supply room ain't good enough for a panic closet, so I might as well turn my room into one.

[The granola bars are stuffed in the empty spaces between his body and the cans.] So the past week, I'm been stockpilin' rations and rope and medical supplies, anythin' bound to be useful in protectin' me. Sadly, there's no metal around these parts I can use to line the walls, but I was thinkin' of ways I can use rope and furniture to block the doorway.
