Week 2.

WEEK 2 Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process. (As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.) Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done. I intend to. Next time someone dies, I'll be able to take pics of the crime scene.

That will probably help us during the next trial.

[Because while he doesn't want to see people kill again...

How long before somebody kills again, you think? [ Because it's not a question of "if" somebody dies, it's "when." ]

[perpend]

I dooon't know.

[He'd rather not think of it.]

A few days, maybe. A week, could be a week and a half-- it's hard to tell, isn't it?

[He sounds like he believes it's more likely to be the former than the latter.]

Yeah. We didn't even last one week before Kaneki-kun died, and now that we know what the stakes are somebody might think "If I don't make a move soon, someone else will."

[perpend]

That's what I'm worried about.

Someone might get desperate, or bored... it's difficult to guess at this point. We all need to leave this place, but until we find out how to get out of here, there's only the way that the Conductor told us about.

It'd be great if we could just blow a hole in the wall with a homemade bomb - Bakugou-kun knows how to make those - but doing that would be an awful idea when we don't know much about the building we're in.

[ They could be underwater, or underground. ]

Plus the Conductor would likely add a rule against trying to destroy the building.

[perpend]

[Cabanela gives a nod.]

Without windows, it's preeetty hard to tell where we are. It's probably something to keep in mind, even so.

[But if they're going to try to escape that way, they probably only have one shot at it.]

We might be able to learn more if more floors open up, but for that to happen, I think we need to survive another trial.

[ This floor only became available after that mess, so... a reward for surviving? ]

Thaaat's a terrible catch 22 isn't it?

[But she's not wrong.]

In order to learn more about our situation, someone else has to do.... how veeery sadistic.

Yes.

[ Very sadistic indeed. ]

...I wonder how many floors there are in this building.

[ And how many people are going to die before they get out, if they manage to do so at all? ]

If this was supposed to be a prep school, there are probably several more floors.

That's assuming the Conductor and his friends didn't decide to build more of them, too.

[They're probably all going to die here...]

This group will probably be pretty small by the time we can access the last floor...

[ Which is a rather depressing thought. ]

...It probably will be.

[How upsetting.]

Here's to getting out before then.

We must try to persevere. There's no point in giving up.

[ Chie, it hasn't even been two weeks and you're already quoting Tsukiyama. ]

A guy I know told me that once. I'll stay strong and bow to no one.
