They'll be keeping an eye on the proceedings today, for better or for worse. As always, the thirty-sixth podium remains blank. Once everyone has found their place in the circle, Jericho can be heard over the public-address system; he doesn't seem to have settled any from the investigation. Now that's true, but someone who sets the trap would have some way to control who gets killed by it.

For example, trying to keep people from dying. Why wouldn't I try to keep Sayaka-chan or Alex-san away, if I set that trap?

You could have done that, but unless you manipulated their actions perfectly subtly, it would put you at risk of suspicion.

Well. No one wandered into the trap overnight, so it's likely that the timer may have caused the culprit to do something a little drastic.

There were eight hours until the next timer death. Anyone could have gone upstairs during those eight hours, there was no need to attract attention to anything.

Is that what the string tied to the armoire was, then? The control? After all, if it is tied to a stuck door then there is no way it could accidentally be set off by someone trying to open it. Someone would have to pull on it instead, and most people wouldn't think to do that.

No, you didn't. Which could be why you couldn't stop the trap from killing Sayaka and Alex. That is the only part of the trap that doesn't seem to fit in, so perhaps it could be a 'control' of sorts. But...mmm, it would make more sense if that is how the trap turned on, not off. If that is what it is for at all.
