[It's a while before Cabanela goes looking for Asuka; he let her be the last time, but eventually he approaches her dorm room, knocking twice.]

[He won't blame her for telling him to bug off, honestly.]

[ Asuka opens the door just a crack, to let him in... ]

Nothing in particular.

[He steps in, giving her a friendly look. He doesn't look particularly worried or anything, but given how hard he's being going HOPE at people, it's probably not a shock why he's here.]

I just wanted to see how you've been holding up tonight.

About as well as I am more or less every other night.

I just don't like being around big crowds of people, if I can help it.

[He nods. It's perfectly understandable, really; the notes are left as an invitation, not as a demand.]

Peerfectly understandable. I'm just makin' rounds, making sure everyone is doing as well as they could.

I appreciate the check-up, but I'm fine. ...I'm not the kind of person who's overly emotional at this sort of thing. I guess I've become numb to it.

I'm nooot gonna force you out or anything, I'm not interested in that. But I could make you a pot of coffee; I was given some after Reaver's trial. It's from Kaneki, so... I imagine he'd want us to use it.

I don't really drink coffee. It's too bitter for me...you'd be better off giving it to one of the adults, I'm certain.

Of course, it's an acquired taste.

[She might be military, but she's still a kid; at least that much is true.]

Well, I doon't exactly want to keep you, but I do have a question for you.

A number of us had strange dreams earlier this week; have you experienced anything like that? You don't have to tell me what it was about, just a yes or no will be fiiine.

How fitting for Acquiescent to give it to you, then. But I did, on Sunday, yes.

It wasn't a dream, though. It was a memory. I know that's the truth. From before I got my eyepatch.

He was a barista, I suppose it makes sense.

[He looks satisfied with the answer, giving a nod.]

It seems that's something everyone-- or everyone I've spoken to, experienced. If it happens again, if you could tell either myself or Susan, that would be veeery appreciated.

I don't need to know what you dreamed about-- or remembered. Just that it was something, if anything. If it happens again, I'm willing to bet it's noot a coincidence at all.

Understood. I don't think this was a coincidence, either. And I don't think it was a one-time thing. There's still more gaps in my memory.

But I know that it wasn't a dream. I've been dreaming of pretty much the same thing every night since I was five years old. So this was...a surprise.

I imagine that must have been unsettling.

[Though if she's had the same dream since she was five, he doubts she dreams of anything good.

Cabanela isn't going to press, though; some things are better left private unless volunteered.]

It's just...different from what I was used to. And incredibly inconvenient, that I don't know what happened.

With any luck, we'll remember everything that's missing.

I have to wooonder how the Conductor stole our memories from us in the first place.
