Week 3.
Two more people are dead. Byakuren Hijiri has been murdered and Undyne has been executed. That brings us up to four deaths and twenty-five remaining Participants. You're doing well. Take all of Saturday to rest and sleep. You've earned it. On Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock. With no more bodies to be discovered, it seems you're safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've remembered something else. Or was that another really bizarre dream? Like last week, there's a new floor to explore. A reward for your efforts, of course. There's something else new, however, and as you approach the foyer you might hear the beautiful sound of... chickens? Chickens. Those are definitely chickens. It looks like Tabby's petition has worked, you have chosen chickens. Perhaps even more important are the rule changes, effective immediately. You might want to take note of them. |

Logan hesitates for a moment while he tries to think about the best course of action. She's obviously distraught. Did she remember something? That must have been it... But those can't be memories, they can't--
Ashley is the primary concern right now. Logan finally moves to stand, reaching for the side of the chestplate to undo it and set it in the chair. Once that's off he kneels in front of Ashley and... awkwardly holds out his arms.
Do you want a hug? Let's just... do that so this is less awkward oh god what does he do.]

[The doll stays curled in one palm, but oh gosh is Ashley going to take this hug. Quite frankly she does everything but launch herself from the chair, wrapping her arms around him and sobbing into his chest. Books fall from her lap, the blanket dislodges itself-- but she does not let go. She's clinging as if her life depends on it.]
no subject
...I don't know what happened, but I'm here for you, Ashley. I may not be able to do anything for you, but...
[He trails off there. He can at least try to comfort her like this, alright.]
no subject
H- oh God, Chris...!
[Her voice hitches in the middle of the name and she finds herself sobbing all over again, because there's nothing she can ever do but cry.]
no subject
Oh.
Logan's grip tightens a bit at that. He's not sure what she's remembered, but it most likely involves that poor boy dying. Horribly. Dear god, what on earth was Ashley put through and why?]
...Let it out. It's... It's not alright and it may never be alright again. But for now you're safe, you can let it out.
no subject
Both of- both of them--!
[...No, she needs a bit more time to just not. At least they have all the time in the world.]
no subject
I'm so sorry, Ashley...
no subject
I r-remembered something. H- he caught-- we were- a table, restraints. He gave- him a gun-- he- had to ch-choose again, and so he--
[Bang. Everything's black.]
no subject
Is there a reason why Ashley was pulled into this game after going through something like that? It's not fair. That's not going to help matters though, so Logan doesn't say anything about that.]
...I'm so sorry. You never should have had to witness that; you never should have been put through anything like that. Your friend... I'm sorry.
no subject
[She squeezes her eyes closed and her grip on the doll in her hand- it's unbearably tight.]
H-he said I- I wanted to tell him for so long a-and I- oh God, I loved him for so long and I couldn't tell him.
no subject
Oh.]
Ashley...
[How is anyone supposed to handle that? Logan has no idea what to say, but he pulls her closer and remains silent. It's probably for the best if he doesn't say anything. There aren't any words that can make that better. There isn't anything that can help with that.]
no subject
[It's too much. It's all far too much, her voice raises with each word, because for the last week she's had one death on her conscience, gnawing away at her and ripping her apart. On top of that, the trials, the excutions. And now, Chris, and every single bit of it is too much.]
no subject
After all, Ashley has a lot on her mind.]
...I can only assume he wanted you to live, Ashley.
[Logan's words are quiet but as usual they're stern.]
I did not know him and I have never been in a situation quite like that so I cannot say for certain, but if he was willing to sacrifice his own life for yours, then he wanted you to get out of there. Perhaps he thought it was better to sacrifice himself, so he wouldn't have to bear the pain of choosing his own life over yours.
[He understands that much, at least. Good job, Chris. You didn't fuck up as badly as you could have.
...But that's not all there is to it.]
I know you're hurting. There was no way for either of you to win in that situation. One of you had to die and Chris was given the choice. Please do not blame yourself for his death.
...I understand if that's impossible, however.
[Does he ever.]
no subject
[She literally can't cry anymore, so her response is a shudder and a choking gasp. None of it was wasted he'd told her, none of the time they'd just- danced around what was right fucking there, he valued everything even though she was too cowardly (they both were) to say anything.
Of course he'd want her to live. That's just who he was. But does it ever hurt, knowing that.]
It's not fair. None of thi- nothing is fair, because--
[A low, pained noise rises in her throat, but she tries to keep it down, because she is right next to Logan and that would be. Well, rude, for one.]
If I- after a-all that, if I die h-here, then- he-- both of them are dead for nothing.
[It's more than impossible for her to not blame herself. Especially with that.]
no subject
[This isn't something he can promise, this isn't something he should promise, but right now the only thing he can think to do is offer her whatever comfort he can, so...]
I won't allow anything to happen to you. Stay safe during the nighttime hours and when you can, stay with those you trust. You're smart, you'll find a way to make it through this. I'm sure of it.
[He sounds confident, at least. It was only a couple of days ago he was writing letters in case they all died in the trial, but it's easy enough to put that aside and act sure of himself. He's always been good at that.]
You will get out of here. You will live through this.
no subject
And, she nods.]
O- okay. Okay. Okayokayokay-- I-
[She's always been the kind of girl who's needed a voice of reason, when her thoughts get too out of control. To keep her grounded. (Chris.) So even if part of her doesn't believe him... Well, she's too desperate for this to question it, for once.]
F- for him. For both of them. I'll tr- try my best.
no subject
I've been through a situation far worse than this. If I could make it through that, this is nothing. I will not allow anyone to hurt you, Ashley.
[He couldn't save anyone back then... but maybe he can save at least one person this time.]
no subject
What happened? Can y- you tell me?
no subject
...But she'll believe him if he can manage some of it, right?]
Four years ago I went on an expedition overseas. I brought over a hundred soldiers with me.
I was the only one to return.
[He shakes his head stiffly.]
I should have died there. I'm... afraid I cannot tell you any more than that right now.
no subject
L- Logan... Oh God. Logan, I- I'm so sorry.
no subject
He pulls back a bit to rest his hands on his knees so she hopefully can't tell just how badly they're shaking.]
I made it through that and I will make it through this. I will not allow anything to happen to you, Ashley. You'll be safe, I promise.
[What a stupid, stupid thing to promise... But maybe for once in his damn life he can keep this one.]
no subject
I- I trust you.
no subject
[It's been a long time since anyone has told him that.]
...Thank you.
