Dinner and Politics

[As promised, at 5pm on Wednesday, the dining hall is prepared for a group dinner. Along the side of a wall is a long set of tables filled with food prepared by Mordecai, Sukuyo, and all their volunteers. One end has drinks (and a bag of blood on a fancy plate for Dio), which transitions into meals and then onto desserts. Two rows of tables are arranged with twenty-five sets of plates and silverware, all on neighboring seats.

Enjoy yourselves, chat with your neighbors, and remember: we don't need McDonalds to have a happy meal!]

Always tryin' to get to the top doesn't leave a man with a lot of free time, unfortunately.

[Just how many people here remind him of Sparks? Apart from the upbeat attitude and not caring if he looks dumb, Cabanela is just like the emotionally unavailable lawman who cannot stop thinking about work.

Well, apart from lookin' for clues, you don't got a city to looks after while here. There's plenty of opportunity to get to know folks, even in the platonic sense. You can't spend your life completely focused on work, you know.

[That sounds upbeat, a more genuine upbeat than the generic sing-song voice he has, at any rate.]

I have... a very dear friend, actually. And a girl I spend a lot of time lookin' after.

Well, you're doin' better than I expected already. But you sure you the time to be lookin' after a kid with how busy your work life is?

It's fiiiine. She's my underling; it's not like she's a little girl or anything.

[She's just his baby girl. It's different.]

Oh. So someone that works in your department. [Welp. He didn't take him much for a babysitter anyway.] Sorry, it's a bumpy road, rememberin' that most local law organizations got more than one permanent member.

You keep on lookin' after her. Lockin' yourself away in you office will never do you no good.

There's no need to worry about that; I'm usually out and about as it is. Pleeenty of cases, naturally.
