It keeps happening

[After that horror show of an execution, Mordecai is still restless from the investigation and trial. He has too much pent-up energy, and plenty of others are sure to be upset, too. Ashley was loved by nearly all of them, the trial was mentally draining, and that execution was crueler than it should have been.

Two hours after everyone has returned to their rooms, they'll find a note slipped under their doors.]

We can't go on with empty stomachs. There's food in the kitchen, and the dining room is always open if you need someone to talk to.

Please keep anything outside of eating and civilized conversation away from the dining hall. That room is meant to be a peaceful place for those of us that need it.

[Today, there's cream of tomato soup warming up on the stove with a set of bowls besides it. It's a more mindless dish to prepare than mashed potatoes, as much as Mordecai wants to vent his frustrations on the potatoes.

He decides to follow Cabanela's tradition and lights one more candle, and after some consideration, lights a sixth. Let those who cared about either girl pay their respects.]

[That's cause enough for Rakka to pause and think. Was she alright? she had already broken down three times today. Her eyes were still looking a little red and sore.]

...I don't know either. I just thought that I'd ask....

[Well this didn't go well. Dangit.]

[ This time he actually manages to give her a smile, even if it is small. ]

Thanks. It's kind of nice to be asked, actually. [ It's nice that, after everything, they can still ask one another if they're okay.

He gestures to his bowl. ] Do you want some soup?

[It's a nice thing to have, since there may come a day when they can't ask that any longer.]

...O-oh. Yeah, I guess. [She wasn't adverse to eating, though her appetite had certainly taken a steep dive after this trial.] What is it?

Tomato soup, I think. It's pretty good. Well, it smells good... I haven't eaten mine yet.

[ He hands her his own bowl since he hadn't touched it yet and so she doesn't need to go grab one. He'll probably get up and get another one for himself later. ]

Mordecai probably made it, since he's the one that organized everything this time.

[She stares down at the bowl that has been passed her way. The sudden hospitality is not unwelcome in the slightest, but it's still a little out of the blue.

...She'll draw her finger along the rim of the bowl, gathering enough to bring to her mouth for a taste. Yup, tomatoes.]

Well, it smells pretty good. [Which meant it probably was good!] yeah, I think he's a really great cook, don't you?

Yeah, I do. I'd actually like to learn some stuff from him. I don't know how open he would be to that idea, though.

Maybe you should just ask! You never know.

[...Wait. Hrrm.]

...I mean, maybe right now isn't a good time?

Yeah, probably not... Maybe he might be more open to it sometime during the week.
