It keeps happening

[After that horror show of an execution, Mordecai is still restless from the investigation and trial. He has too much pent-up energy, and plenty of others are sure to be upset, too. Ashley was loved by nearly all of them, the trial was mentally draining, and that execution was crueler than it should have been.

Two hours after everyone has returned to their rooms, they'll find a note slipped under their doors.]

We can't go on with empty stomachs. There's food in the kitchen, and the dining room is always open if you need someone to talk to.

Please keep anything outside of eating and civilized conversation away from the dining hall. That room is meant to be a peaceful place for those of us that need it.

[Today, there's cream of tomato soup warming up on the stove with a set of bowls besides it. It's a more mindless dish to prepare than mashed potatoes, as much as Mordecai wants to vent his frustrations on the potatoes.

He decides to follow Cabanela's tradition and lights one more candle, and after some consideration, lights a sixth. Let those who cared about either girl pay their respects.]

Yep, I had Rakka-chan as my little helper! It took a few tries, but I think it came out looking really good!

[she walks over to her pile of laundry and pulls something up. when she holds it out to him, it is revealed as the ugliest coat that's ever been.]

It's a coat! So you don't get cold! [her emotional stability is now 100% dependent on his acceptance of this gift so no pressure]

... I don't know. I've never been alone before, until I came here.

[He indicates the laundry. Dear god that is a lot of laundry.]

Oh, no, it's best if I do it myself! A rich guy like you would probably be really bad at it. [she says, rudely] Your job can be distracting me, which is really easy!

[decrees]

Well, it's not as though I like it and I'm not particularly good at it, but I have been handling my own clothes.

[every morning at stupid o'clock. he can't be seen in anything other than his royal attire, you know!!]

I have no problems distracting you, if you'd prefer.

I don't believe I told you the story of how Albion was united. Would you care to hear it?

[LOOK YOU KNOW WHAT HE JUST SORT OF DEFAULTS TO "TELL STORIES ABOUT MY AWESOME MOM" SO HERE WE ARE]

Sure! Albion is your kingdom, right? [those are the best kinds of stories]

[decrees]

That's correct. Fifty years ago Albion was not a united land; towns were governed in many different ways and as a whole, the country was a mess. My mother was a Hero, a person with enhanced abilities. She was tasked with finding the Heroes of Strength, Will, and Skill in order to stop a madman by the name of Lucien. He was rebuilding the Spire, a magical artifact that would allow him to remake the world in his image.

My mother gathered the Heroes and together they defeated Lucien, saving the world from destruction. The Heroes of Will and Strength went their separate ways, but mother united Albion and the Hero of Skill eventually returned. I've heard stories of the adventures mother went on with the Heroes individually, though they never reunited. I imagine it was because they could scarcely stand each other.

[i mean you had Good, Neutral, and Evil all represented, of course they couldn't get along]

Mother had never been a leader, but she took to ruling Albion very easily. Her decisions were swift, but never rash. She was a wonderful woman and she left behind quite the legacy.

[housenurse]

She sounds wonderful-- but, I already knew she had to have been, to raise someone like you!

The Spire sounds... [vaguely familiar] scary. Is it related to the, ah... world being destroyed? [y'know the reason your boyfriend died]

[decrees]

Ah...

[You know, that's the first time anyone has ever said something like that. Usually it's "how on earth is he the Hero Queen's son" or "no seriously how are they actually related, they don't look anything alike" which raises all sorts of questions Logan doesn't want answered, but that... That's really sweet.]

It was fifty years ago. Lucien planned to use it to remake the world. I don't believe anyone has that kind of power anymore, and it's in the care of someone trustworthy.

["Theresa" and "trustworthy" should never be in the same sentence...]

It has nothing to do with what is happening this time, however.
