[This whole week has been awful. This whole experience has been awful. Mordecai wants to go straight to his room and deal with his frustrations, but that's not what a mayor does. A mayor takes charge, a mayor fixes what's wrong, a mayor makes things better. Even if he can't do everything on his own, he's has to do something.

Two hours after the end of the trial, the living will find another note slipped underneath their doors.]

There's cookies in the kitchen. The dining room is ready for anyone who needs a quiet place to talk it out. I'll be in the bar if you need a drink, alcoholic or something more appropriate for the underage crowd.

[There's a pile of warm chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. Two more candles are lit at the memorial - one for the victim, one for the culprit - and Mordecai has left a pile of blankets from the storage room on one of the dining room tables.]

[He pushes the paper towards her. The list is sort of disorganized right now, but it looks something like this:

Shadowy, humanoid appearance; wings, glowing eyes
5' or taller, less than 6'
+ Light, fire (guns are effective on larger ones?)
All other weapons can kill with a strong hit
Capable of controlling statues?

...that probably doesn't tell you much though.]

I fought shadows in Albion. They are not quite the same as what we witnessed in the pit today, but I thought it might be a good starting place.

[It tells her more than you would think. The words They are the shadow, and we are the light come to mind, and she murmurs them as she scans those notes.]

...humanoid Grimm. I was so upset I didn't think of it, but they're like humanoid Grimm.

If we can get our hands on Dust, it might help, but I doubt the Conductor would let a package of it come through. We're going to need another way.

[decrees]

Grimm? Dust?

[Sorry, Weiss, you lost him.]

The Conductor has been kind enough to provide us with weapons. I know there are matches in the storage room, as well as candles. That certainly isn't much, but it will at least provide light at all times, should that thing get out of the pit.

The Grimm are the monsters we Hunters and Huntresses train to fight. They're creatures of darkness that feed on negative emotions. Dust is crystallized energy that can be used to help fight them. It can power weapons, be used to fortify armor...

[This is her turf.]

I think the things in the storage room and from the machine can be a start, at least.

[decrees]

I see. It could be something like that. I don't believe it's possible for any of us to determine what world it is from right now.

[It could be something entirely different too. It's too early to tell.]

I doubt the Conductor would allow Dust, especially if he's not familiar with it. But surely we can come up with some alternative way to fight this thing, should we need to.

It's the first thing I thought of, honestly. I suppose you think of home first.

[She nods.]

I usually wear a pouch of Dust vials on my back, but it was empty when I woke up here. I haven't seen anything like it in the vending machine, either.

Mm. If we pool our resources, I'm sure we'll come up with something.

[decrees]

We'll need to have another meeting again, possibly after the incentive.

[Is that what they should be calling them now? "Motive" feels more accurate.]

Until then, it would be wise not to make a move against that creature.

Incentive or motive, whichever word we want to use, but I agree.

[If this was almost anyone else, she would immediately put on a contrary front, but not Logan; she has too much respect for him to do that. She nods once.]

I agree. We don't have enough information on it to act just yet.

[decrees]

[Logan is quiet for a moment while he stares at the list he's been writing.]

...If at any point you start hearing things or seeing things that aren't there, do not attempt to fight it.

I won't, unless there's absolutely no other option.

...what are these things like, back in Albion?

No, Weiss. Do not engage them if they start doing that. Run for it.

[He's adamant about that, alright.]

...The shadows I faced looked a bit like humans, though they had glowing eyes and wings. They could be easily defeated with a strong enough blow, but they were capable of controlling things. Statues.

Their leader was the one who could manipulate minds.
