Looks like this will be a weekly thing

[This whole week has been awful. This whole experience has been awful. Mordecai wants to go straight to his room and deal with his frustrations, but that's not what a mayor does. A mayor takes charge, a mayor fixes what's wrong, a mayor makes things better. Even if he can't do everything on his own, he's has to do something.

Two hours after the end of the trial, the living will find another note slipped underneath their doors.]

There's cookies in the kitchen. The dining room is ready for anyone who needs a quiet place to talk it out. I'll be in the bar if you need a drink, alcoholic or something more appropriate for the underage crowd.

[There's a pile of warm chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. Two more candles are lit at the memorial - one for the victim, one for the culprit - and Mordecai has left a pile of blankets from the storage room on one of the dining room tables.]

The Inspector and I spoke earlier in the week about the lack of visible cameras here. He doesn't seem like the sort to have such tiny ones - those are easily decades more advanced than anything in this place. We thought these creatures might be the Conductor's eyes and ears in this place, and maybe even our mysterious suppliers.

I think that's far more likely now.

[Before they'd only snapped a neck, and with explicit instruction. But this week, they were so much more clearly alive and intelligent.]

That's a very real possibility. I have been out at night and haven't seen anything of the sort, but I will admit I am not the best judge of these things.

[Because he jumps at his own shadow and he's paranoid as hell, tbh.]

If it is out at any time, then it is very good at hiding itself.

I doubt they'd be particularly visible if they weren't moving. They were likely down there the entire time, but none of us noticed them until recently.

We've known all along we were being watched, of course, but if those things are in here with us, we can't distract him from things the way we'd hoped before. He can also retaliate to anything we might do much quicker than even I'd thought. We need to be very sure of ourselves before we try anything. I don't suppose you've fought any shadow monsters back home? [look with all the trolls and werewolves that is not a huge leap to make]

[He was really hoping he'd hallucinated the shadows moving during the first trial because of the... everything that involved Reaver...]

I have, actually. That's what I was working on. The monster in the pit doesn't behave like the ones I've faced, but there are enough similarities. I believe the same methods would work to defeat that one. Light and fire are the primary weaknesses, though depending on how large of a creature we're looking at, guns may prove effective as well.

[Okay, to be fair, he's not 100% sure on that one since his memories of that event are kind of... really warped.]

The shadows I fought before were very dangerous and capable of things I don't believe this one can do.

I wonder if these ones aren't capable of more than we know as well.

I don't suppose yours could grant a second chance at life, or any of those other things? He implied that he was working with something with the magic needed to provide all of that - these must be some kind of magic creatures.

[She's grasping a bit, but she doesn't know much about magic. Why shouldn't the one magic thing and the other be the same?]

[It takes Logan longer to reply to that one. He taps the pen against the paper while he thinks and he almost looks angry instead of confused.]

No. I don't believe the ones back home could do anything of the sort.

I was under the impression that technology was behind all of this? How we got here and the "incentives". I know a god was mentioned, but Albion doesn't have anything of the sort, so I'm not well-versed in what that would involve.

Was it? I know Mordecai said there was technology that could do those things on Mars. It sounds like it would have to be magic to me, but that's only because of where I'm from.

[After obviously crossing a phrase out, Susan stares at the paper in thought for a while before finishing her message.]

Before we came here I would have said we don't have a god. But after the memories I've received, there is something in my world. It's at least capable of bringing people back to life. It wasn't particularly shadowy though, and from what I remember this doesn't seem like something it would do.

I'm not sure what to make of the idea that a god brought us here. It's beyond me. Such a thing is interesting. I'm not sure if we can believe anything the Conductor has said though. All we have to go on is his word.

I don't like to take his word, but I also don't think he tends to outright lie. That doesn't mean it's a god - just that he may believe it is.

It's not a very meaningful distinction. We know it's powerful either way.

I suppose we really don't have a choice but to believe what information he's given us. It's not something I like, but it's all we have to go on right now.

Could that monster be what brought us here?

[Shadows are totally not gods in Albion, but it's impossible to rule anything out at this point.]

It's entirely possible.

He did seem to be directing it. Not the relationship I would expect of man and god.

It's not something I would expect either, even with my limited knowledge of gods. I'm not sure what to make of this situation, but perhaps we'll learn more about it in time.

We probably will.

We'll have to figure out good light sources in the meantime. Just in case. I don't trust the candles.

The candles might be too small to be effective. I'm not sure what else we can make though.

There's plenty around we could burn, but that's not really a long-term strategy. It would be helpful to know if the thing can be killed or not.

[If it can be killed...]

It would be best to be cautious for now, but we should not be idle. That thing has remained in the pit so far, but there's no guarantee that it won't get out at some point. We need to find a way to combat it, at least to fend it off if we cannot kill it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't gotten anything out of the machine that can light up at all. Much as I hate to say it, that could be something for Rick - he probably has the skills to cannibalize the lights or something around here.

That's a very good idea. I haven't received anything that will be useful either, but Rick will most likely be able to assist us. Assuming we can find some way to convince him to do it, of course.

I'd say we could just point out that he's in as much danger from the thing as anyone.

But that would require using logic on Rick.

[He looks really amused, alright.]

Perhaps we can bribe him into it. Unfortunately he has access to all the alcohol he could ever want, but maybe there's something else that would work?

Morty might know of something. I try not to talk to him much myself. Unless he starts another ridiculous petition, I haven't got any ideas.

I try to avoid him as well. I do talk with Morty frequently, however. I can discuss it with him.

Alright. I'll keep an eye out for anything else. I got a clock with some batteries in it, so if we find anything that needs those we have a couple.

They're energy sources for electric things. Anything portable will probably need them.
