[This whole week has been awful. This whole experience has been awful. Mordecai wants to go straight to his room and deal with his frustrations, but that's not what a mayor does. A mayor takes charge, a mayor fixes what's wrong, a mayor makes things better. Even if he can't do everything on his own, he's has to do something.

Two hours after the end of the trial, the living will find another note slipped underneath their doors.]

There's cookies in the kitchen. The dining room is ready for anyone who needs a quiet place to talk it out. I'll be in the bar if you need a drink, alcoholic or something more appropriate for the underage crowd.

[There's a pile of warm chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen. Two more candles are lit at the memorial - one for the victim, one for the culprit - and Mordecai has left a pile of blankets from the storage room on one of the dining room tables.]

All vampires can turn into bats. It's a very basic vampire skill!

I'm reasonably certain that they can't, in my world. I can't shapeshift, at least.

... Ah, well, that's disappointing. Maybe being a vampire isn't all that great.

It isn't so terrible, just because it lacks that one thing.

[There was that smirk again.]

There's still the eternal youth, immortality, and immeasurable power.

[housenurse]

But what's the point of all that if you can't even turn into a cloud of bats! [LIKE JEEZ DIO KEEP UP] What good is living forever if you have to spend that forever paying for bus fare? It'll add up and ruin you!

[midnightsea]

I don't-

You honestly think that's how I get anywhere?

Fine, fine! [waves hand dismissively] Then replacement tires for a bike, or new shoes! All of these lifelong expenses could've been avoided if you could only turn into bats!

[midnightsea]

I think you'd be surprised how money ceases to be a concern given an unlimited amount of time to acquire it.

[Is he implying he's loaded?]

[housenurse]

... Oh. I keep forgetting that people having money is something that happens! [beat] Even though I have money now.

[midnightsea]

My last memory dream was about my daughter becoming a club president! Our whole family moved up in social class!

Thank you! I think it's a memory from before some of my other memories, but I'm poor in those memories... I don't really understand it! I hope it was nice while it lasted.

...You don't care? If you'd managed to move up in the world, wouldn't you want to stay there?

[housenurse]

I would! More than anything. But... [a pause, and then a shrug.] I guess it's just not meant for us, having money! I can't be too upset about it.

[midnightsea]

[He is having genuine and honest trouble processing this.]

How can you not be upset about something like that? I don't understand.
