So When Sleep Just Won't Come
[Well, that sure did happen.
Logan is dead, and for once the rest of the students were all there to bear witness. After that, does anybody really want to lie alone in their dark bedrooms all night?
Of course not. That's why people are gathering in the dining hall. It's still dark, but the room is lit with a hastily-assembled host of candles, mostly forming a protective half-circle around the far corner of the room. There's also at least one garbage-can fire, courtesy of Sukuyo. Will that be enough to keep the shadows at bay? Only one way to find out...
There's pillows and blankets too, but try not to fall asleep out here. Keep an eye out for any neighbors who might be nodding off too. That would be against the rules, and there's been more than enough punishment for one night.]

But you saw it, didn't it? When Logan..... woke back up. The thing reappeared, and was impaled by a sword. That must have been his work.

And then, all of a sudden, he was awake. Healing from some impossible to recover from wound and charged the thing.

[As if that's the really odd thing about Logan dying and getting up again?]

How is something like that even possible?!

[Susan thinks that surviving as a disembodied head launching itself around by its arteries kinda counts as some kind of something.]

[HE WAS A FLOATING HEAD, JESUS CHRIST HE'S SCARRED FOR LIFE]

Maybe it was....
[ugh, is he seriously saying this]
....Biological, like Kaneki's situation.

...We got ghosts here; there mighta been somethin' happenin' while he was passin' over.

Maybe he was just too stubborn to die.

Though it wasn't anything like Logan miraculously coming back to life.

[Susan leans forward, apparently interested in the conversation. It's totally not a cover for slipping Cabanela a note.]

If his ghost somehow went back into his body, would that really heal him? Bring him back to life? Or would it just sort of...
[Susan makes a vague gesture. Meat puppet. She's talking about a ghost possessing a bloody dead meat puppet.]

But I could be wrong.

After all, ghosts are capable of controlling other people.
[Cabanela, you don't know for sure that can happen here.]

But when Cabanela talks, her already-quick mind is firing on all cylinders and something just clicks.
Maybe she's wrong. Quite possibly she's wrong. But Youko, for the brief moments she's Youko again will never, ever acknowledge that, because being right about this is the best possible outcome for him. ]
I told him.
[ It's quiet, probably too quiet to be heard by any of the others so Youko repeats herself, tears rolling down her cheeks while she smiles contentedly. ]
I told him he wasn't tainted, that what happened in Aurora hadn't turned him into glass. That he wasn't broken, not a little, not at all, that he'd just changed and that was fine and he was so, so strong and he was perfect, he-
[ Youko cuts herself off with a vicious shake of her head, now is most definitely NOT the time to get distracted. ]
I was right. He was stronger for the crawler [ and no proper noun for you, HA HA! ] having touched him. Not weaker. That's why he could do that. That's why he came back.
[ And wherever he was now, he had to know that too. Logan could not beat himself up over that any longer. He was free. ]

Cabanela smiles. It's a sad smile, and it's clear even at a glance that he's fighting back tears.]
He wanted to protect all of us. That's not something someone who is weak could do. He protected us all.
