Rule 17 hits like a gutpunch. The plan she'd talked about, as improbable as it already was, had just become much harder.

But something - someone - digs its heels in inside her, the same way it did prior to their most recent trial. The presence of their latest, insurmountable hurdle, has the odd effect of only making Youko more determined.

They're going to win.

There's hot soup, rice, and tea in the kitchen. We're holding a meeting tomorrow morning in the conference room. I want you to be there.

[ For once, Jean doesn't go right for the afterparty. Instead he seeks out Bakugou as soon as the two are clear of the trial room, reaching out to grab hold of his wrist. ]

Katsuki. You said that Mordecai's room was unlocked, right?

It should be, yeah. [ He's now fairly certain the key must be in Tabby's room, but it's not like they need it. ] Do you wanna go check it out?

Yeah.

[ He doesn't look happy about it, but... ]

I don't know what's gonna happen if we manage to get out of here, but if there's anything important left behind then I want to keep track of it.

Yeah, good idea. It's... well, anyway, since it's open we'd better do it fast, in case somebody else has a similar idea.

[ Except maybe slightly more nefarious. Not that they'd find much that isn't valuable except in the way of sentimentality, but... ]

By the way... there's another room we should check out, but later. [ He drops the volume of his voice, to prevent anybody else from overhearing. ] ... Tabby gave me a key before she... you know.

[ Those are Jean's thought exactly, fortunately. Tabby may not be around anymore, but... ]

... Right. We can go through both of them tonight. [ Jean will be glad to check out a room that won't be as emotionally charged to shuffle through, honestly.

But there's no point in trying to delay it any longer. Jean sets off for Mordecai's room, feeling a little bit like he's walking towards his execution. ] Did she tell you what she left for you?

No, but it'd be nice if she left behind some of those flashbangs. [ ... Not that they'll be useful in two IC days, but it's the thought that counts. ] And she also has been stealing shit this whole time, right? She's probably got a pretty decent stash of useful stuff.
