You've all done very well to make it this far, but it's not over yet.

The Conductor has been silent for the past few days. An uneasy peace has fallen. No one else has died, but does that really mean we're getting close to the end?

But then, perhaps it's time to take some initiative of your own - to hold someone accountable for things they actually did, rather than punishing your own for acting out in a situation none of you asked to be in.

A couple of you have some unused keys that you might want to try to use on the seventh floor. There's a room along the southern wall that hasn't been opened yet; that might be a good place to start.

Are you ready for the final investigation?

[OOC: Once you've gotten the western wing of the building open, the floors you'll be working with will look like this, with rooms A and B on each floor open for investigation; the red area in the southwestern corner of the floorplan contains a spiral staircase that leads between floors, though after the fourth floor down, the door leading into the building proper will be locked. Those four floors are yours to explore, though!]

[ Jean is perfectly fine with compounding Bakugou's existential crisis! Later, though. He's going to carefully set those notes aside and then pick up the nearest of the gathered notes because... well, there they are!

He'll read these, too. Hopefully it's about something that's not timelines. ]

[Well, you won't be dealing with timeline shenanigans, but it looks like you've got your hands on some notes concerning destruction of large landmasses and their populations. The notes go on to discuss villages and cities that have been destroyed through the power of energy manipulation, as well as at least one instance of an entire good-sized country being hit with what was more or less an apocalypse from right the hell out of nowhere - basically, there was a flash and everyone died.

There are also some drawings! Because this is clearly the best topic for doodles.]

[ Oh my god, this is so beyond anything Jean wants to deal with right now...

[These drawings are like the ones you found earlier - basic street maps with crevasses and swathes of heavy damage penciled in beneath the actual maps themselves. So that's a thing.

But that's okay. He can deal. He's actually more interested in the notes about the people involved this time, however, so he'll read those next. Maybe he can give it to Sol and Bakugou and let them go bust some heads. ]

[There are mentions of a group of people who went rogue from the government - researchers and scientists, primarily, specializing in fields that are more combat-oriented; these are a bunch of people who specialize in war and decided that a war was what they were going to have. Because that sure sounds fun.

There's also mentions that the rebellion was mostly in response to plans like the aforementioned apocalypse-causing clusterfuck; somebody wanted to either rule or destroy the world, and a bunch of guys decided they didn't like that. So here we are.

It seems like there were a few people who seemed to be playing both sides; most were government officials that had some stake in the destruction, some were just batshit insane free agents that wanted to be on the winning side, some just had nothing better to do with themselves, because apparently that's a thing people do here. Good hustle, everyone.

Sounds like there was a lot of fighting and we may have ended the world because we're a bunch of proud, stuck-up bastards.

That specific asshole is totally the Conductor, isn't it? Jean's gonna read the shit out of it regardless, but with extra interest if it seems to be about the Conductor. ]

[It probably is. It's talking about one of the aforementioned batshit insane free agents - one of the former scientists with decidedly less interest in saving the world and a lot more interest in watching it burn just because. It seems he had a hand in...well, a lot of things, really; "energy manipulation" is a recurring theme here, it seems, because this guy specialized in it - namely, in utilizing it in creative and not-altogether-happy ways.

After all, you get pure energy from Point A to Point B by way of a conductor.]

[ Oh my god, look at that amazing sciencey pun that Jean totally will not understand because what the fuck is a post-industrial technology?

What he does understand is that he's got some sort of relationship to that city-destroying energy which is... troubling. Are there any details on what exactly he was doing with his energy manipulation BS? ]

[There isn't anything listed outside of the fact that lots of shit was destroyed. Sorry, Jean. Looks like you've cleared the room though!]

[ Speaking of Bakugou, guess who's wandering in here looking like he really needs to sit down? Yeah, he's just gonna grab a seat and take a few moments of silence... literally only a few moments, though, he has too large of a mouth to be quiet for long. ]

Do the phrases "butterfly effect" or "alternate timeline" mean anything to you?

Sort of, actually.

[ Jean picks up some of the notes he found earlier and hands them over. ]

I didn't really get what it was about, but these talk about timelines.

I don't really know a lot about it. [ But he's watched movies and stuff, so. ] But basically it's this theory that there are infinite numbers of possible realities based on different choices people made. And the butterfly effect basically is saying that one little choice can cause really huge divergences later in time. Does that make sense so far?

[ So far, pretty calm... How long can this last, though....... ]

Yeah, that makes sense. We call that last one the ripple effect back home.

[ He's getting a little nervous now, though. ]

So first, I found some stuff about how multiple timelines could be breached if you have enough power to be considered a God.

[ Not that weird, considering all the stuff about God they've been hearing. ]

And there might be a way to take people from a timeline without affecting the original timeline.
