Most of the week has come and gone in relative peace; it's an uneasy peace, but the fact is that it exists, and sometimes that's the most one can ask for. Friday dawns like the rest of the week before it – the clock chimes the hour at seven, the doors to the kitchen and the mail room unlock and swing partially ajar of their own volition, and the building is quiet. Perhaps this week has passed relatively painlessly, and no one's decided to find out what your captor means by that last rule of his; perhaps the communal lifestyle has remained undisturbed, whether due to the lack of threat to everyone's well-being from any sort of outside source or just because no one sees a reason to push their luck. Or perhaps somebody decided to be a damn overachiever and take some initiative. Only one way to find out, isn't there? >Explore?

[Susan watches the bagging with a raised eyebrow, before turning back to the neck. We're going to need to get this rope off.]

[Professional? Not all that much; that's more a job for a coroner than a nurse.

Personal? Well, let's just say this situation is very much reminiscent of something she was doing...geez, less than a week ago now. Her memory of what a hanged corpse looks like is quite fresh.]

The break on Kaneki's neck does in fact seem consistent with a hangman's fracture - it's a clean C2 break, resulting in internal decapitation.

However, while she's removing the rope there - she'll notice the fact that while the knots are well-tied, the noose is...odd, for a few reasons.

There's something wrong with the knots themselves, as well as what's going on with Kaneki's neck (because apparently there is just not enough wrong with Kaneki's neck today) - which are we taking note of first?]

[Fun fact: execution-style hangings will place the knot below the left ear to ensure a clean C2 break. It's considered more humane to do it that way; otherwise the person being hanged runs the risk of a much slower death by asphyxiation.

...Okay, that wasn't fun at all, but it was factual!

That said, while whomever did this does have the basic knowledge of how hangings seem to work, the knot is not configured in any sort of way that would have resulted in a C2 break, clean or otherwise.]

Could that noose really have broken his neck? I'm no coroner, but that doesn't look right.

[She moves the rope carefully; time to look at the neck.] But it is broken.

[There's also no notable bruising around the neck - there are tension/ligature marks around the neck consistent with the guy having hung there for a while, but not enough to imply that the hanging itself was violent.]
