WEEK 4
Walter White and Fern Green have joined the deceased. Their losses will be felt, just like all the deaths before them. While you might be tempted to put that mess of a trial out of your heads, it's hard to forget what happened. It's even harder to ignore the secrets that have been revealed, still burned into the wall of the dining room.

You all have a lot to discuss, don't you?

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

The past week's trial seemed to be hard on everyone, including your captors, it seems that you're still being rewarded for your work; a new floor has been opened up to you, and along with it the return of the uneasy sense that they approve of what you're doing here: killing each other, picking one another off, singling each other out in the trials.

It's likely not a pleasant feeling, knowing you're giving them what they want. But what else is there to be done?

Oh, I'm not really working out! Haha, no, I'm just getting a grip on where my strength's at. Don't think of me as too much of a muscle head or anything.

[ SERIOUSLY. ]

Well, I was mostly joking, because I really can't imagine you being a muscle head at all. Though... how much has it changed?

I'm... I don't know, it's hard to guess. Maybe a fourth as strong as normal? Less?

[ She picks up a twenty point hand weight, lifting it easily enough and frowning after pumping it two times. ]

...even if you're weaker than usual, what you can do is still pretty impressive from my perspective.

Thank you. [ She sighs though, waving out her arm once she sets down the weight ] It's unsettling to feel weak though. Between this and some other abilities that the Coordinators seem to think are unfair...

[ Chee. ]

I know what you mean, in a sense. Honestly, it feels kind of like I'm a cat that's been declawed.

Defanged bat.

[ That makes more sense. ]

Both of those work, yes. You can survive without them, and you're not missing any of your senses, but it changes how you interact with the world and makes it far more unpleasant, even when it doesn't come to self-defense and whatnot.

... I am not so certain it is so cut and dry for me. What has been taken from me is something that would, in time, most assuredly kill me.

[ She... shakes her head. ]

Likely not for the duration of this exercise though, at least.

...what, are you certain? What is it, may I ask?

[because holy shit that uh...]

Unless it's too personal, I suppose, but if there's some way around it...

[ Her secret blew her species and... she taps her nose ]

There's a few, but the biggest is how my senses of taste and smell have been mangled. The others means I can't hunt, but this one means I can't -- I cannot tell if I'm getting proper nutrition.

...wait, really? What would make one kind of blood more nutritious than another kind of blood?

[like... it's all from people, isn't it? he still doesn't really get this vampire thing since when he tried to look up any books they were all terribly confusing and did not actually seem to describe literally anything that pertained to Elda.]

[ . . . god it's weird to talk to a human about this. ]

Well, the diet of the human can be a factor, but honestly, Blood Affinity's the main thing. Every vampire has a particular taste that they follow, and is going to have the best effect on them. I can't smell for that anymore - or taste it, really.

Oh, I see.

[... you know, thinking about it, that doesn't seem too weird.]

Is it like blood types, then? I know that blood transfusions don't go terribly well when the receiver doesn't have the same blood type as the donor. Or is it something more esoteric than that?

Mmm, some people think blood type's a factor, but that's not the heart of it. We'd've never survived as a species if it was as limiting as that.

[ she looks around the room, and then runs a hand through her hair. ]

It's more... mm. Blood is life, I've said that several times before. It's much more literal for vampires, but for humans too, the flow of it keeps you lot alive. If you're really one of those blood bendy people I'm sure you can think of a dozen ways that slowing, speeding, or halting the flow of it can make someone drop dead.

But more than that, blood carries through the life experiences, thoughts, and emotions of a person, in a way we vampires can smell and taste. Every vampire has one of these Blood Affinities, and when you bite a human - sure, you're taking their blood, but you're also hunting to take in some of that corresponding taste you have, convert that into nutrients.

[ Mmm. ]

To give a more concrete example: my boy Henry, his Blood Affinity is pride. The boastful, braggarts, stubborn - all of them smell much more delicious to him, and when he takes their blood, he's also stealing from them their pride until their body can produce more blood to replace what was taken. A Samurai might become humble, for example.

Oh, I see. That is more esoteric than I was expecting, but... I think I understand that? It sounds like something that would be involved with some sort of spirit, or something along those lines.

But I can definitely see how that'd be a problem somewhere like here. Can you go this long without it, or... have you been going for the blood bags, I suppose.

[...like, it's a reasonable assumption.]

Oh, of course I've been using the blood bags. Heavens, I'd be showing my age a little more if I didn't. Starting to starve, probably have ripped out one of your necks.

[ She says this casually. But then she hums, putting a hand to her chin. ]

They're bland though, like they took it from some humans who had never felt anything in their lives.

...oh.

[...LET'S... PREVENT THAT, HE'S GOING TO SEE IF HE CAN PREVENT THAT]

Well, I do know that with humans, when we get colds or something happens to our sense of smell, it generally messes with how well we can taste things.

My hope has been something like that. [ She shakes her head ] The thing of it is that if I were to go at anyone that way, I'd surely be dead.

Well, you could probably figure it out from someone's personality, couldn't you? Although that'd probably require a not-insignificant amount of monitoring, thinking about it.

[ Mmm. ]

Does that mean you're offering now?

Well.

It sounds like it won't kill me, so.

Yes, but it will hurt. Stop offering things you don't know about.

I'm fairly certain I've probably felt worse before, unless it feels like some kind of nightmare leg cramp all over your body.
