boys and girls of ev'ry age~
[ With all the hubbub Aligula's been up for few weeks now and especially today, it should really, really not be a surprise that closing in around the evening, flyers start appearing pretty much everywhere, in true Aligula tradition.

There's an extra notice slipped under everyone's doors as well: i made costumes and you're not allowed to tell a ghost story unless you wear one!!!! they'll be in the bar with everything else so don't worry it's all taken care of~~~~ ♥
...yeah.
8pm sees the bar decorated with a lot of toilet paper—mummies were here, obviously—as well as cut-outs of cats, bats, ghosts, owls, and a few freaky looking things that are probably native to Aligula's world. Additionally, the bar counter is laden with dozens of treats, ranging from slightly overdone cookies (sugar, chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, snickerdoodle) roughly shaped like popular Halloween motifs like bats, ghosts, and something attempting to be a pumpkin; thumbprint cookies with some sort of raspberry jelly on them that's a little too sweet, thick, and sticky; to somewhat lopsided chocolate and vanilla cakes, topped with whipped cream frosting and mixed berries. There's hot chocolate and water for people who prefer not to take any of the alcohol that's naturally in the bar, and...
True to her notice, there are costumes laid across several tables and chairs that have been pushed together: bedsheets with fancy embroidery around the hem for some expensive-looking bedsheet ghosts, witch costumes, robes for every monster occasion, cat-ear headbands + tail combination and a marker for whiskers, the same except dog-themed, black capes with red insides for vampires...
If you told her a preference and let her measure you, your costume set aside with a piece of paper with your name attached to it! If not, well. Bedsheet ghosts and capes are one size fit all, though she attempted to eyeball (ha) most everyone, so maybe one of these other ones fit you? Or maybe you don't care and you're not going to tell a ghost story anyway, so whatever.
The ghost stories, by the way, have their own little throne—there's one table pulled away from the others that's covered with a blanket and has a pillow and a few of those cute Cerberus plushes that come out of the machine with it. Take a seat and share something spooky—tis the season in this room, after all. ]

Ah, the one that survived to tell the tale, if how these stories usually go is anything to guess by. [Rin takes a seat, holding up her hand.] I'll hear you out, so don't tell me if I'm right or wrong about that so soon.
[Go ahead, Kyrie.]

The Ushiromiya family wasn't always as wealthy or influential. They were a respected family like any other. Kinzo Ushiromiya decided to take...extreme measures. He was a practicioner of magic, a talented sorcerer. He summoned a woman and piqued her curiosity and interest long enough for him to trap her in the island of Rokkenjima, where he resided.
It's unknown what kind of arrangement they had, but...Kinzo managed to obtain twenty tons of gold from her -- gold he used to obtain glory and build the Ushiromiyas' wealth to heights never seen before.
[Dramatic pause to process it so far]

Oh yeah, guess there was a lady who was left trapped on that island. She'll probably be okay.]

During the day Kinzo was the ruler of the island of Rokkenjima, Beatrice ruled during the night. Golden butterflies could be glimpsed from time to time. Beatrice was mischievous, she often played pranks on the servants of the mansion. Magic circles, windows opening when you turned your back to them, objects disappearing and appearing in locked places, that kind of pranks. It was said that following the butterflies would lead to quick doom to you -- and those who didn't believe in Beatrice tended to suffer accidents. A particularly skeptic servant was pushed down the stairs and injured gravely enough to be forced to retire, and it was said Beatrice was the one who did it.
[Did that truly happen? Kyrie isn't sure -- the details are rather vague -- but it sounds like a good thing to add]
It could be said Beatrice was no more than a...minor annoyance, as long as you believed in her. That continued for years, until Beatrice decided it was time to reclaim what Kinzo owed her, now that Kinzo was old and close to death.
She decided to appear in the Ushiromiya family conference -- the one I was attending.
[Surprise! Present events!]

Wouldn't she be an old woman herself by that time? Or, be it illusion or the genuine article, did she manage to obtain eternal youth?

[Would a witch live forever? Who knows]
The Ushiromiyas arrived to the island for the family conference, and that's when Beatrice made her move. She showed herself to the youngest child, in a moment nobody else was around, and gave her a letter. The girl read the letter to the rest of the family.
The message from the witch...was both a threat and an offer for mercy. She stated it was time to collect the debt Kinzo owed her, and the interests would be the lives of every family member and servant on the island. However, she's also fickle. She gave the family a riddle and stated that if they solved it before midnight, then nobody would lose their life, and she'd give them the rumored twenty tons of gold Kinzo had once received.
For hours the adults of the family worked hard, trying to solve the riddle, until they managed to do it. The final step was to find the gold...and it indeed was at the island. It was over, the tragedy had been averted...
...or maybe not, because the witch herself was waiting for them. The adults, distracted by the gold, hadn't noticed the witch at first. The witch stepped forward, opened her mouth to talk, and then...
[Kyrie smiles, enjoying herself]

[Psyche!]

I was expecting a jump scare, not a cliffhanger! That should be against the rules!
