It's time for an after party!

[About an hour after the trial and subsequent execution, Cabanela makes a decision.

They need to do something, keep the morale up, however little it may be.

Under each occupied room door people will find the following note written:

In difficult times such as this, it is important to carry on.
Don't give into despair; we must preservere.
If you don't want to be alone this evening, meet me in the dining hall.

[Upon entering the dinning hall, you will find Cabanela sitting at one of the tables; he has lit two candles that are placed at the center of the table, but there's nothing else to note.

You'll have to supply your own food, since he doesn't have much of an appetite.]

I tell everyone Barazo is a doctor, because it makes things easier, and of course seeing that on Cabanela-san's profile made me worry, but... I don't think he's what anyone would actually call a doctor! He never finished medical school, never got his license, and he's never even worked in a real hospital. He's a back-alley doctor! When people in the slums have no other choice, or richer people would get arrested at a real hospital, they come to him! Luckily, dead people can't file malpractice lawsuits!

[all of this is being said in her usual, cheerful tone. she doesn't even blink at the last part.]

I know he says he doesn't remember why, but his profile still says he hates fake doctors! I wouldn't want to survive this whole thing and end up with my hubby in jail!

[...You know, this would make a lot more sense if he wasn't from the Industrial Revolution...]

Of course! I mean, a wife should always love her husband, but... It was love at first sight, you know? Like finding a missing piece of your heart! And when my children were born, it felt like my heart was finally whole.

Being apart from them might be the hardest thing about being here, for me... But, with everyone here, and learning to care about them, and care for them? It helps. It makes the missing pieces hurt less.

...I see. That is incredibly kind of you. I'm very sorry that you're forced to be away from your family. I can only imagine how painful it is.

[Sure, he's away from his sister, but that's entirely different. He loves her dearly, but they've never been very close. Being an emotionally stunted shut-in does that, who knew!!]

We're all away from our loved ones. And, well... I know I'll see them again. I have that chance. [unlike some of us. which reminds her...]

... From the way he spoke of her, I think Ken-kun's mother is passed. He didn't mention a father, but... Maybe he had other relatives? He definitely had friends. Who's gonna tell them? Does Conductor-san send out letters to them? What if he never does, and they never learn what happened to him...? There's nothing worse than not knowing what happened to a loved one!

Ah... Chie is from the same world, isn't she? She mentioned that she thought she was even before the... that.

[He waves a hand to indicate the trial. He doesn't know what to call it. Disaster sounds accurate, though.]

Perhaps she could return home and find them to pass on the information. I wouldn't trust the Conductor with anything, much less breaking the news in any sort of gentle way to Kaneki's family.

[Talking about Kaneki is much, much easier. He liked Kaneki and it hurts that the kid is dead, but focusing on that is better than thinking about Reaver's family, or lack thereof.]

That only works for the people who have someone here! Most of us are from entirely different universes than each other... I don't know who can do it other than him...

[she has a mental image of the Conductor-- who she imagines, for lack of anything solid, looks like a giant bear-- being knocked on his ass by a mourning Barazo. it's comforting.]

[So even Sukuyo acknowledges that this isn't the last time something like this will happen. That's... sort of depressing.]

...I am not sure how he brought us all here in the first place, but I imagine that isn't something he's going to tell us. Perhaps we will be able to figure out how to travel to other worlds. I do not like relying on the Conductor to pass along any information.

[her optimism is dampened by the overwhelming fear that she'll die and her family will never know.]

Rick-san is always talking about alternate universes and how he can go to them. Maybe he could do it. [BECAUSE THAT WOULDN'T BE WORSE THAN THE CONDUCTOR AT ALL]

Perhaps his grandson could do it. Morty would certainly be a better option.

Morty-kun is a nice boy. You wouldn't think they're related if you didn't already know!

He seems to love him so much, though! Even though he's so rude, and everything he says makes everyone angry at him, he still tries to defend him to us...!

That says a lot about him, I think. To love someone so much, you try to defend them, even when you know they're wrong! [HINT HINT]
