It's time for an after party!

[About an hour after the trial and subsequent execution, Cabanela makes a decision.

They need to do something, keep the morale up, however little it may be.

Under each occupied room door people will find the following note written:


In difficult times such as this, it is important to carry on.
Don't give into despair; we must preservere.
If you don't want to be alone this evening, meet me in the dining hall.

[Upon entering the dinning hall, you will find Cabanela sitting at one of the tables; he has lit two candles that are placed at the center of the table, but there's nothing else to note.

You'll have to supply your own food, since he doesn't have much of an appetite.]

[ It occurs to Bakugou he's never had a proper introduction with her, but he already likes Weiss after the mess that was their first trial experience. So better late than never, right? ]

Less messed up than some people in the room, I'm pretty sure. How about you?

[Her thoughts exactly. She hadn't exactly been the most welcoming person that first week, but she's determined to rectify that situation.]

As well as can be expected. I was in shock for the first little while, but there's no sense in holing up in my room all night, you know?

Yeah... I feel like if I let it get too me too bad, it's like letting the Conductor win.

[ Still, it's not like he's without feeling — watching somebody get beheaded rattled him just as it did everybody else. He just can't bear to show it. ]

I mean, why bother with some... fucked-up show like that, if it's not just to mess with us?

And the last thing any of us wants is to let that -

The only other thing I can think of is him having a weirdly twisted sense of justice, but I think it's more likely that he just wants to mess with us.

Yeah, I think so too. I mean, if he were about justice, then he coulda just punished the guy without making us go through all that bullshit.

It felt kind of like a test.

You can say that again. We didn't need to go through all that.

[Raising an eyebrow. She hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense.]

- it did. Testing what, though?

... Resolve, maybe? Or there's that line in the rules... something about "initiative-taking" and "trust-building", maybe that's got something to do with it.
