[About an hour after the trial and subsequent execution, Cabanela makes a decision.

They need to do something, keep the morale up, however little it may be.

Under each occupied room door people will find the following note written:


In difficult times such as this, it is important to carry on.
Don't give into despair; we must preservere.
If you don't want to be alone this evening, meet me in the dining hall.

[Upon entering the dinning hall, you will find Cabanela sitting at one of the tables; he has lit two candles that are placed at the center of the table, but there's nothing else to note.

You'll have to supply your own food, since he doesn't have much of an appetite.]

Why, what's in there? Did you get, like, a bunch of maid stuff too? [A beat.] Or is, like, your diary in there? Does it have a bunch of entries about your boyfriend in it?

[She's gonna steal it anyway. Pray you don't die, Logan. TABBY WILL, IN FACT, STEAL ALL YOUR STUFF.]

Reaver is not--

...He was not my boyfriend. We were working together, that's all.

[That's stiff despite the initial outburst and Logan glances back down at the items in front of him. It's going to be difficult to remember to refer to Reaver in the past tense.]

Uh-huh, sure. I "worked together" with a lot of my boyfriends too. [And by "a lot," I mean all.] I know you're, like, from way long ago or whatever but it's cool. You were in love with a guy who got dead because he's, like, a mega jerk. Admit it to yourself and moving on is way easier, just saying.

[decrees]

[You know, literally the only person in Albion who can fluster him like this is Reaver, good job, Tabby.]

[HE'S TRYING SO HARD TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION AGAIN OKAY]

No, it's the perfect time for it. You're, like, all sad and shit because that was pretty harsh and now your timeline is because he's, like, dead and stuff. And you, like, probably knew him better than anyone or whatever so you know. It's ok to cry and stuff, even though you're a dude.

[...Tabby... You know, he suspects that was a genuine attempt and he might have been able to kind of appreciate that if he wasn't so confused as to why all of you are so stuck on this.

(He might be a little oblivious, just in case you missed it.)]

[points to the stuff Logan took and says, in a way she clearly expects to clear everything up:]

Of course I did. He wouldn't want anyone else handling this.

[He taps the Dark Seal in explanation. He's pretty sure Reaver wouldn't want him handling the Seal either, but desperate times and all of that. This doesn't explain the other two items, but there's no need to tell Tabby that Reaver got the gun working again. We're missing bullets anyway, it's fine.]

That doesn't mean I have any sort of... romantic feelings for him.

[Logan comes down hard on the word "romantic" and looks kind of mad. But his face usually looks like that, so.]

[zomgboom]

Are you listening to yourself? [In a terrible British accent she clearly means to indicate she's imitating Logan:] "Tabby, I don't care about Reaver at all, but I took his stuff because he would have wanted me to have it!"

You're so deep in denial you're, like, in the Ocean or something.

[decrees]

Tabby, whatever I think about him is irrelevant right now. He's dead. This is not something I wish to discuss.

[AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL HE'S METAPHORICALLY IN THE GROUND BEFORE WE CONTINUE BICKERING ABOUT HIS FEELINGS]

Oh, I got them restocked. The Conductor will restock stuff from the storeroom if it runs out, apparently.

[So the matches she took are hers now. Because that's what you all really needed: a bunch of matches in the care of someone who has the superpower of blowing stuff up, even if it's not working.]
