[About an hour after the trial and subsequent execution, Cabanela makes a decision.

They need to do something, keep the morale up, however little it may be.

Under each occupied room door people will find the following note written:


In difficult times such as this, it is important to carry on.
Don't give into despair; we must preservere.
If you don't want to be alone this evening, meet me in the dining hall.

[Upon entering the dinning hall, you will find Cabanela sitting at one of the tables; he has lit two candles that are placed at the center of the table, but there's nothing else to note.

You'll have to supply your own food, since he doesn't have much of an appetite.]

Nah, I-I can't read Japanese.. I was more looking to start a library with it? 'Cause me and Ken were talking about starting one a couple of days ago so.. y'know... [Thought it'd be nice to make one in his honor..]

If y'want, I can read anything in Japanese to ya...

[ It's not totally her thing, the books Kaneki read, but she doesn't mind reading them, really. ]

I'd offer to teach you, but that might take a while. Well, it's not like I mind doin' it, it's just a little more complex than English?

Well I mean I wouldn't mind learning it, for sure! [He smiles, kind of excited at the idea of it.]

I-it's not like we've got anywhere to go right now anyway, right? Got - got plenty of time to spend, h-haha...

Well, then - we can meet up in like, the mornings or evenings or whatever works for you? It's not like I really have any standing plans...

[ UNFORTUNATELY...there's not a whole to do here for her. Libraries are all well and good and shit, but Sol honestly prefers a more active lifestyle than she can live cooped up in here. ]

I'll let you know if I get any books from the machine. [ Which she does, by Monday. ]

I'm - I'm alright with whenever! [There's a pause, and he laughs a little nervously, feeling kind of embarrassed by him jumping the gun so much.]

I-I guess mornings would be better though? I mean, unless you wanna get locked out of your room or something... a-and we could probably use the sleep. [Plus it has something to look forward to waking up to, so that's nice.]

[ Sol doesn't seem to note the embarrassment - or more like she's not sure what it's for...Morty seems like a nervous guy, and she's been known to make people nervous, so it's probably that. ]

Works for me! Meet up after breakfast, then? Or at breakfast, whatever. As long as I eat at some point in the morning I don't really care how I spend my time after...but it'll be nice to have actual plans. [ And she grins here, although EVENTUALLY THESE PLANS WILL PROBABLY BE BROKEN BY DEATH and then it will be sad. ]

We can get breakfast together if you want. I-I mean we might as well since we'll be at a table and stuff for writing stuff down and whatever... right? [Not like he eats breakfast with anyone so y'know. He doesn't really care.]

That works for me. Luna might tag along sometimes, if you don't mind... [ They tend to eat around the same time, although the twins frequently seem to split up for the day. They're not glued to one another's sides though they'll hang out on occasion. ] By the time we get out of here, I'll have you readin' Japanese fluently! ...Or, well, pretty decently.

[Five dollars to Morty dying first. I mean look at him, he's a limp noodle]

Yeah, I don't mind. [They're sisters, so it's understandable!]

...Y'know, my family's gonna be really surprised! I-I'm gone for weeks and when I come back I can speak Japanese suddenly... th-they probably won't know what to even think. [He's joking around but man, talking about his family is actually kind of depressing.]

They'll think you're workin' hard! Maybe. I mean, it's not like I know a whole lot about families...Luna's all I've got, aside from the South.

[ that's what happens when you're an Altered...more or less. ]

I can teach ya to punch things if you want, too! [ well, she...can... ]

They'll... probably ask why I bothered to learn Japanese instead of everything else, h-heheh. [He's. He's bad at school...]

Um.. yeah I think that'd be nice too, though. Just in case, y'know? I mean, I don't want to have to punch anyone, but...

Well, why not? I mean...I know a few languages, but that's just 'cause we were on the move a lot, I guess.

And yeah, I know what you mean. Even if it's not for use here, knowin' how to defend yourself is never a bad thing.
