Week 2.
Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process. (As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.) Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done. |

Eventually, she left her room, nearly stepping on the pillow laying outside her door. She immediately realized why it was left there, and swiftly threw it into her room and continued on her way. It was just a thing. She'd muster some emotions about that later.
She stops by the ballroom to gaze into the area. Kaneki was gone, as was all signs of him. If she tried hard enough, it was almost like that whole thing never happened. That doesn't stop tears from forming in her eyes, which she desperately starts wiping away.
Later, she drifts to the kitchen to try and make breakfast. Or, she would be trying to do that. Instead Rakka is simply... leaning on the counter, staring down at her hands as though something major had just hit her. Which it did. It was something - something that she was having trouble processing.]
.... Haibane....?
Kitchen
What's that? Somethin' else you remembered?
[What could have jogged her memory? He doesn't recognize that word, and he doubts the appliances in this kitchen has anything to do with it. He goes with the first obvious explanation he thinks of.]
That your planet?
no subject
Uh... uh huh. I woke up this morning, and... I think I suddenly remembered some things about myself.
[And it was just now that it's started to sink in. From the looks of it, it's kind of hard to fathom.]
No, it's not my planet. It's... what I am now.
no subject
[He turns off the flame on the stove.]
Haibane...never heard of it, sorry. Must be from some other system I ain't acquainted with. [And yet she looks so human. Was evolution so unimaginative that a species so similar to his popped up in the same galaxy?] But if it helps, we know what to look up once we got access to a modern computer.
Modern meanin' from my time, not from the 21st century like lots of folks here.
no subject
But then, why did something not feel right about it?]
Looking it up... would help.
[a quiet moment passes over, and it almost seems like Rakka's not going to say anything else. But then, she finally speaks, just loud enough for the Barkeep to hear.]
I'm not human. I don't know... what I am.
no subject
Ain't it obvious? There's more intelligent lifeforms out there than humans. You got the Martians, in my case, and the lizard people and the Jupitarians, and that ain't even scratchin' the surface. You're some kind of alien - taken from human perspective, of course - and that's all.
I'm sure those wings an' halo got some explanation behind 'em, just walk around a bit more, soon enough you'll start rememberin' more!
no subject
She gives Mordecai a blank look as he goes on about Martians and other alien beings that apparently populated the universe. She gets that his words is apparently very big, something she wishes she had. Instead of this empty memory.]
...I don't think that's it. [Maybe with a little more thinking...]
I still can't remember everything... but... I know how I got my wings, and my ring too. I think.
no subject
This is one heck of a mystery, and Mordecai wants to know everything.]
Didja grow 'em, 'cause that's my best guess. Second best is that someone attached those wings to you, like some kinda...science experiment.
[He's used that explanation more times than he should, which should be zero. Mad scientists kidnapped them from across time and space. Mad scientists are running this experiment. Rick is a mad scientist. Mad scientists are behind strange body modifications.]
no subject
[Rakka looked... as though she was wincing for a quick second. Or maybe longer, given the sort of person Rakka was. She gave him a curt nod at least, telling him that he'd landed on something.]
Yes, that's right. I remember having a fever, and there was one other girl with wings; she was helping me when I grew out my wings. It wasn't some kind of weird experiment, but...
[She rubbed her shoulders of a phantom pain.] It still hurt.
no subject
But the poor girl needs someone to trust.]
Rakka. [He stands up straight, his best impression of an authority figure.] It's all in the past, your wings don't hurt anymore. I say it's like getting your tooth pulled out for us humans, it hurts, but every kid goes through it.
Better yet, you remembered someone from home! You recognized her?
no subject
She's a lost girl and feeling more confused by the second... which makes it all the better when Mordecai stands up. Because Rakka honestly listens to him.]
.... [She sniffles.] Do I...? No, I don't think so. But, she was helping me with everything. She cleaned my wings after they grew out, and she was talking to me about... what we are.
... Her name was Reki.
[And, judging by the way a smile danced onto Rakka's lips, Reki was a friend.]
no subject
[There's something welling up inside him - pride? - as Rakka divulges more information. It's not much, but she's made a lot of progress since he first saw her.]
Look, even a memory like that has a lot to teach. You remember where you were, you remember you friend, you remember what was happenin' -- that's a lot when you think about it.
[This is the part where he should pat her on the shoulder, right? Yeah, let's do that. It should be comforting.] You'll start rememberin' everythin' in no time.

the ballroom
Yo, falling gi... uh.
[ She's crying.
Bakugou isn't equipped for this. ]
no subject
I... I'm fine.
[Nope. Still crying.]
no subject
[ He points at her, not accusingly or anything, just kind of... pointing. ]
Make a fist. Don't ask questions, just do it.
[ THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET SHONEN, RAKKA, IS YOUR BODY READY. ]
no subject
[Unfortunately, Rakka was not strong enough to resist the force of breaking into tiny, hiccup-y sobs. Kaneki died. And it was right there.
And she almost doesn't notice Bakugou pointing at her. What is... what is going on right now.]
Uhh... [WHY... NOT?] O-okay?
[She's making a fist now. SHE'S A SLICE OF LIFE, WHAT IS THIS?]
no subject
Okay, now grip really hard. And then...
[ Time for a practical demonstration. Bakugou also makes a fist, holds it for a few moments, and then points accusingly at nowhere in particular. ]
Screw you, Conductor!! We're better than that, so you can fuck right on off!!!
[ There's a pause. He relaxes his posture and turns back to Rakka. ]
Okay, now you.
no subject
Uhh, you want me to... [Hmm...
Actually, sure. Why not? She's going to embrace her inner shonen and give this a try!]
Okay. Here I go.
[Breath in, and out, and with one fist clenched, she points at a bit of wall in the ballroom.]
S-SCREW YOU, CONDUCTOR! JUST, uh, EFF OFF ALREADY, AND LEAVE US ALONE!
[Just two kids, screaming at the air.]
no subject
So, how was that. Usually telling somebody to fuck off makes me feel better.
[ We don't all have massive superiority-inferiority complexes, though. ]
no subject
Umm, it's... okay. I guess? I've never done that before.
[Sure is a little flustered now because she sure did swear. Good thing her parents - whomever they are - aren't in this place.]
no subject
[ And gosh, there's no shame in swearing!! Okay, he doesn't think there's any shame in it... ]
no subject
I guess that means that if I ever need to shout really loudly at something, then I'll be okay. [Giggles. A little joking never hurt anyone, right?]
no subject
[ And if not, Bakugou has got everybody covered on being a Loud Person... ]

[...now, that's something interesting. Actually, he's kind of curious...]
So, did you remember something too?
no subject
She perks up at the last bit of that sentence, looking at him.]
Me... too?
