Week 2.
Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process. (As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.) Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done. |

Ashley's looking anywhere but at him. What about the vending machine itself? It does look very nice, doesn't it? Her other hand pushes some hair from her face, rubbing her raw skin.] Not good. But- I should be...asking you that instead, right?
no subject
I... am doing what I can to keep going.
[His grip tightens a bit on the gun he's holding.]
You don't look well, Ashley. Are you alright?
[There's no nice way to say "you look like you've scrubbed your skin raw, what happened?"]
no subject
She shakes her head, and it seems like she's going to elaborate but then, well.] I was trying to write a letter. So I could apologize properly for- everything, but then- I remembered something and I couldn't so I- I'm just so so sorry, I'm so sorry!
[This keeps on happening. Mess up, apologize, and what comes next is...]
no subject
Ashley. I'm not upset.
[...By that, he's upset by so many other things that happened.]
We were all under a good deal of stress. I was in no condition to... attempt to deal with any of that in public. I apologize for reacting so poorly. I know you were only trying to comfort me.
[It just... didn't really work... Reaver's been a fixture in his life since he was a teenager so losing him has been incredibly difficult.]
no subject
[She just tries to breathe, to not do this now.]
Oh my God, I'm just...sorry. That you know what that feels like, and I have to say something.
no subject
Ashley, listen to me. I'm not angry at you. What happened in there was-- It was the Conductor's fault.
[and mine but thinking like that won't help now.]
We are going to do everything we can to get everyone else out of here. That's... That's the most we can do right now.
[...]
Do you want to talk about what happened to your friend?
[He's not sure why she didn't bring this up before now, but let's just... try to address that as gently as possible.]
no subject
She does her very best not to cry when she thinks about Josh.]
I didn't remember until- just a few nights ago, but he- he's d-dead. The man who- who knocked me out, he...tied me up...and he made...my best friend choose between us, and the one he didn't choose was-- s-sawed in...half.
[Her voice goes faint and her body trembles.]
Because he chose me, Josh is dead.
no subject
...I... am so sorry, Ashley.
[The words are a little stunted, both because of the shock and because Logan's just bad at this.]
I wish I knew what to say. I cannot imagine what you must be feeling right now.
[Knowing that you were spared and your friend was killed because of that decision... that must be horrible.]
Is there anything I can do to help?
no subject
I don't know. I- I tried to stop feeling...you know, his blood, and that... [She brushes some hair from the left side of her face.] That did not work out. Obviously.
[It seems both of them don't really know what to say, but eventually she manages:]
...Can I just talk about him? And if- if you...want to talk about Reaver, um...I can just listen.
no subject
Yes, of course. Let's find somewhere private. Would you prefer your room or mine?
[Logan
He pulls back so he can pick his things up again. He'll need to put these in his room at some point, but for right now Ashley is the most pressing concern.]
no subject
She spies his things and, well-] My room's kind of a mess. Not there.
no subject
Of course. Come with me.
[Logan leads the way back to his room and hesitates a bit at the door. He's been staying in Reaver's room since... all of that, but that's really awkward, so his room it is. It takes him a moment to figure out which Silver Key goes to his door, but once he's got that open he enters and places the items he got on the desk. The room doesn't look any different; all of Logan's stuff is in either Reaver's room or the trunk and let's not with that.]
Would you prefer the chair or the bed?
no subject
Thank you. For...just, yeah.
no subject
You don't need to thank me for that. I... understand that this is incredibly difficult to handle.
[He'll sit on the bed then, elbows on his knees and hands folded in front of him. He's slouching like hell, which is just a thing Logan does when he's sitting because apparently he can't be dignified all the time.]
no subject
His name i- was Josh Washington, and...I met him when I was ten. Him and Chris. Chris is um, the one who...had to...choose. [She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment.]
I skipped a year of school and ended up in their class, and I was so awkward and didn't have any friends. But...Josh just walked up to me one day and demanded I hang out with them. I thought he was playing a joke on me, but he was held back a few years before, right? So...he knew how weird it was to be the "new kid" and wanted to help me out. It was real sweet... But to make sure we weren't having a moment he punched my arm and I almost fell off the jungle gym. [A faint smile.]
We were friends ever since.
no subject
...That was very kind of him. You've known him for a long time, then.
[Knew, you knew him for a long time--]
What was he like?
[That's probably easier than discussing whatever happened.]
no subject
[Ashley realizes she's slipped into present tense and deflates a little.]
...We were all up on the mountain because...he invited us there. He was going through a...a lot, and we were all going to spend the weekend making better memories. It was supposed to be...fun.
no subject
Something happened up there, though?
[It's probably not going to be easy to talk about it, so he sits up a bit and looks at her properly.]
I understand if it is difficult to talk about, or if it's something you simply can't discuss. If you want to talk, however, I'll listen.
[He can't do much else because he's absolutely terrible at comforting people, but he's here and that's... something.]
no subject
It- something already happened, last year. We...it was a just a stupid prank.
[She sounds out of breath.]
It was just a stupid, heartless prank and I don't know why I went along with it. It ruined everything.
no subject
...What happened? Is that something you can talk about?
no subject
[She's quiet.]
Th-the police looked for them for...for so long, but there was no luck. Josh, he...dropped out of school. Then, in- toward the end of last year, we all got a message from him. He...wanted us to get back together at the lodge. Like old times. So...we could all have fun again. Heal. Instead...
Instead, now he's dead too.
[One, two...three people.]
no subject
I apologize. I cannot imagine how you must feel about what happened to his sisters.
[...]
His death... It sounds as though it was gruesome. May I ask what happened to him?
no subject
[Her hands are clenched very tight in her lap. Still, she stares at the floor.]
Chris told me not to look, but I- when he got me down, I still...saw what was left.
no subject
...Or maybe she was taken from the middle of it.]
I'm so sorry. I don't have enough words to express how upset I am that something like that happened to you.
[He's trying to be sympathetic and it's... sort of working. His expression and voice are still a bit stiff, but Logan's never been very good at expressing himself.]
no subject
Right before, we'd had a séance, the three of us. Josh wanted to. He said he used to do it with...with Hannah and Beth all the time, so...of course... I was asking the questions and we...I think we talked with Hannah, but he thought I was just...faking, and he got upset and went off on his own. Next time I even heard him, he was screaming, so...I tried to see if he was okay, and.
[No more words. It looks like that's all, isn't it? She talked so much last night with Asuka, so much more detail, but...no. Not right now. Not anymore.]
