Week 2.

WEEK 2

Two people are dead. Ken Kaneki has been murdered, Reaver has been executed - and perhaps most uncomfortably, the Conductor is proud of you all for adhering to due process.

(As always, by which he means that there is a process, and you all are certainly doing it.)

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

However, once you've shaken that off, there are new things to be looked at; the previously closed-off area near the kitchen has been unlocked, and there's a new floor to be explored - consider it your reward for a job well done.

PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 27

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[OOC: Welcome to week two of Trustfell! Save your threads for coins and the coming week's activity check; don't forget to check in to this week's activity check and submit your memory regains as well!

The Letters and Switchboard posts are still active, for the sake of contacting the jerk who's keeping you here, to be used at your leisure!]

[He'll set the book down on the table before tipping his head a bit.]

That's an interesting thought. I doubt the Conductor would allow us access to this floor if he hadn't already made sure that he'd checked everything, but there are a lot of books here and he might have missed something.

...You should be careful though; don't fall and hurt yourself.
openterrain: (ᴡᴇ were caught up)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-11 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I won't say that seems like the less likely option.

[ In fact, Jean will be shocked if he finds anything of significance. ]

But there's not much else I can do around here someone else can't do better. [ Since they're on the subject of risk anyway... ] It's alright. Stuff like this was my job back home! I'm used to climbing 50 meter walls and 80 meter trees, so a bookshelf is nothing.
decrees: (HEADTILT ♛ likes: executions??)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-11 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
...Indeed? What sort of job involved climbing something so tall?

[80 meter trees?????]
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-11 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ They were pretty fucking huge trees. ]

It's how we had to fight Titans. [ Jean finally begins to descend the bookshelf. ] Most of them are only ten or twenty meters at the most, but it was easier if you started up above them.
decrees: (CONCERN ♛ was that another evil decision)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-11 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
What are the Titans?

[Ten or twenty feet of monster is still a hell of a lot of of monster.]
openterrain: (ᴏʜ where do we begin)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-11 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
They're gigantic monsters. [ ... Obviously, Jean, but he's quick to add: ] They're insanely hard to kill, but they actively hunt humans.
decrees: (INTEREST ♛ but can i kill it)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-11 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
...I see. I have never fought anything quite that large. Nothing in Albion actively hunts humans like that, though many monsters will attack any passing humans. The trolls I fought were notorious for that sort of thing, but they aren't a problem anymore.

[...sie sind das essen und wir sind die jäger]
openterrain: (ᴍᴀɴʏ days fell away)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-11 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Woah, back up there. ] You've got more than one kind of monster in Albion?
decrees: (CONSIDER ♛ my morality's screwed)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[...Headtilt...]

Yes, of course. Trolls weren't quite as common as some of the others. Hobbes are the most common - they're disgusting creatures that ambush people who stumble across their holes; they're tiny and normally not dangerous on their own, but they form packs. Hollow Men are... corpses possessed by Wisps that are capable of fighting. Balverines are humanoid wolves and they're capable of turning normal humans into Balverines with just a bite.

There... are others, of course.

[...But he doesn't want to talk about those.]
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tiny monsters? That sounds really nice, even though the rest sound pretty terrible all on their own.

He catches onto Logan's reluctance to discuss the others, though. Must have something to do with whatever Reaver was talking about.
]

And there's really six million people there, even with so many monsters around?
decrees: (DISCUSS ♛ or we could kill every traitor)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's correct, yes. Several of the towns have guards and the ones that don't have many people that can take care of themselves. Travelling from one town to another is dangerous, but many people in Albion have learned to fight. Most carry both a sword and a gun and have been trained to use both.

[...Or a hammer and a rifle. Any combination works! As long as it's not like, a sword and a hammer. That would be a bit overkill.]
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Monsters that anyone can fight - that definitely sounds nice. ] There's no special trick to killing them?
decrees: (EXPLAIN ♛ the ends justify the means)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Not usually, no. Some can be incredibly difficult to fight. It's not likely a normal civilian could go up against a Balverine and live, for example. There are many people who enjoy fighting, however; mercenaries are quite common and for the right price, they will assist civilians in taking care of any monsters in the area.
openterrain: (ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ clouds roll over the hills)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's the difference, then. [ Titans' regenerative powers are the main reason no just anyone can take up arms against them. ] It's not just the military that takes care of them?
decrees: (DISCUSS ♛ or we could kill every traitor)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Soldiers are often tasked with protecting the towns and other areas where monsters are common. Unfortunately, we do not have enough soldiers to handle all of the monsters in every town.

[...And he's trying to build an army, so he'd appreciate it if the soldiers would stop getting killed. That would be nice.]
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you not have enough soldiers with six million people? [ Compulsory service isn't officially a think in Jean's world, though it may as well be. ]
decrees: (EXPLAIN ♛ the ends justify the means)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[...because Fable III tbh]

Not all are skilled enough to serve in the army. We hardly have enough money to afford that many soldiers anyway.

[Fable III tbh]
openterrain: (ᴍᴀɴʏ days fell away)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Damn you, Peter Molyneux! ]

Are your taxes really low, or something? [ You have so many monsters, why wouldn't soldiers be the priority? ]
decrees: (IRRITATED ♛ why do you keep talking)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite the contrary, actually. They've been raised recently in an attempt to prepare for the coming battle.

[WHAT DO WE SPEND THE KINGDOM'S MONEY ON?? IDK CHICKENS MAYBE, WOULD YOU BE SURPRISED]
openterrain: (ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ clouds roll over the hills)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-12 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, that might make sense, if they're using the money on supplies rather than training. ]

Is there some sort of increase in the number of monsters lately?
decrees: (IRRITATED ♛ why do you keep talking)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-12 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
...Not exactly. There is... something that will be coming in a year's time that we must prepare for.

[you're just going to keep being vague forever, aren't you, logan]
openterrain: (ᴏʜ where do we begin)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ That, of course, rings a bell of a sort: ] That's the thing Reaver was talking about, isn't it?
decrees: (REGRET ♛ i hecked up)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
...Yes. He wasn't lying. I... I know how that sounded, it seemed like an excuse and... so many of you asked him to elaborate, but...

[Logan looks away, shaking his head. He didn't have to say anything, but Reaver knew not to go into more detail. If he had let Reaver talk about it, then maybe...?

No. The outcome would have been the same. Reaver wouldn't have been spared.]
openterrain: (ɪɴ your pose)

[personal profile] openterrain 2015-11-18 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Truth be told, Jean still really wants to know what it is Reaver and Logan are so scared of. Details. But whatever uncertainty and unease he might have about explicitly trusting Logan at this point, he and respect his desire for silence. After a moment, Jean lifts a hand to wave off his own question. ]

It's fine, you don't have to explain. It's... well, there's things about my home I'm not telling everyone, either. [ Probably, Jean thinks, for similar reasons. ]
decrees: (DISCUSS ♛ or we could kill every traitor)

[personal profile] decrees 2015-11-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...I appreciate it.

[He can't talk about it; he hasn't been able to talk about it in four years, it's no surprise that it's still difficult now.]

I sincerely hope your situation is nothing close to mine.
