Week 3.
Two more people are dead. Byakuren Hijiri has been murdered and Undyne has been executed. That brings us up to four deaths and twenty-five remaining Participants. You're doing well. Take all of Saturday to rest and sleep. You've earned it. On Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock. With no more bodies to be discovered, it seems you're safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've remembered something else. Or was that another really bizarre dream? Like last week, there's a new floor to explore. A reward for your efforts, of course. There's something else new, however, and as you approach the foyer you might hear the beautiful sound of... chickens? Chickens. Those are definitely chickens. It looks like Tabby's petition has worked, you have chosen chickens. Perhaps even more important are the rule changes, effective immediately. You might want to take note of them. |

I know it's probably hard, but... hey! You still take time to eat! Even with your country in danger - it's the same thing! You make time! You look after yourself or you die!
[ ...that was surprisingly emotional, uh
jk, where's the surprise, they're trapped in murderpalace and four people are already dead of course death is a sore point :' ) ]
no subject
[Logan's version of "having fun" is "killing all the trolls in Albion" so uh. It's not exactly something he can go do easily...]
no subject
Well, it is. Just something so you aren't a tightly wound coil every hour of every day of the year. Human bodies can't do that. You're not built for it, and it wears you down.
[ then you get a second hobby, logan ]
no subject
[Fun isn't something he does very often...]
I'm alright. I can look out for myself.
no subject
I think I understand perfectly why Reaver liked you so much...
[ of course he'd like a gigantic stick in the mud of fucking course. ]
...But it's like you say - your kingdom's in danger, you've got a lot to do - what's wrong with someone else stepping in and telling you you're being dumb when you can't see that you are?
You wanted to stop doing something fun just because it seemed undignified. [ SO FORGIVE HER IF SHE DOESN'T PUT A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF STOCK IN YOUR JUDGEMENT HERE ]
no subject
...That is why I took his advice so seriously, you know. He would offer solutions and ideas I hadn't considered.
[Most of them were Evil, but you know what sometimes your morality has to take a hit so you can make money.]
I... Well, I've always placed a lot of importance on appearing as a king should...
[...this might be why you have Issues, logan]
no subject
...I'm not Reaver. But I don't want to stand back and just watch. Would you be... opposed if I... helped too...?
[ SHE IS TRYING REALLY HARD NOT TO SOUND LIKE SHE'S OFFERING SOME KIND OF REPLACEMENT HERE. But might a supplement be okay?
At least Logan being a dork is far easier to deal with, and Youko relaxes the moment she turns to that. ]
A king, hmm? And what of a human? Don't you think appearing like that's important too, from time to time?
no subject
I would not be opposed, no.
[And he's content to leave it at that, because he's not sure he wants to get into a discussion about feelings right now.]
...My position has always been that of a leader. My entire life was shaped around becoming the King of Albion. Expectations were planed on me from an early age and I either rose to meet them or failed. There was only one expectation I couldn't meet.
[He shakes his head and doesn't elaborate on that.]
My life has never been my own, it has been Albion's. I... did spent several years doing what I wanted as opposed to what would be best for Albion and that... Ultimately it... It was a mistake.
[Logan shakes his head again, the gesture tense and short this time.]
no subject
This king business, though... She'd never met someone in that position, and it was her first time even hearing about those kinds of problems. That didn't make it any less serious - it was exactly the opposite: it felt way above her paygrade.
Aw, and just when she'd said she'd wanted to help! ]
That's incredible. I had no idea that's what it meant to be a king.
[ Thinking... ]
...Are you sure the problem was that you were doing what you wanted, and not what it was you wanted?
I mean, are what you want and what's best for Albion inherently opposite things? I can't imagine they would be. It seems to me that... there must be somewhere the two can meet, most of the time.
[ 'Most of the time' ]
So maybe it was what you wanted that time.
...Not that I can say for certain; I don't even know the bare details, after all. ...Which isn't me hinting at you to tell me, even if it sounds suspicious.
[ It's just a statement of fact. ]
no subject
[He's quiet for a moment, thinking on that.]
I enjoyed exploring Albion before I took the throne. I wanted to see the land I was to rule and I wanted to meet the people I would be ruling. I was content with that and would continue these adventures even after I became king, but eventually I decided to explore overseas.
It didn't end well.
[He absently runs his left hand over the back of his right before he catches himself and folds his hands again.]
no subject
[ Sighing, slowly enough so that he has ample time to see what she means to do, Youko moves to place one of her hands on his. She doesn't know if he'll let her, but she's tired of not knowing what is and isn't okay when it comes to physically reaching out to Logan. At this point, she'd rather get a bad reaction than continue to guess.
When that's concluded - for better or for worse - she'll continue. ]
I'm not interested in absolving you of any rightful blame, [ Well, she doesn't care, but saying that might make it easier for Logan to listen to her ] but tell me. Did you have any way of knowing how it would go? Does travelling overseas normally end this way?
no subject
...The most we knew about the land overseas was that it existed. We had no idea if there would be civilization there or if the people would be hospitable. We thought we were prepared for everything.
[...]
The people there were kind. They nursed me back to health after...
[He shakes his head, the gesture brief but agitated.]
no subject
...I can't fault wanting to explore the unknown, but going yourself first was really dangerous and risky. [ her shoulders actually start getting tense, because the more she thinks about this... ] You weren't just not thinking of Albion, you weren't even thinking of yourself!
[ SHE MAD. ]
I'm glad someone nursed you back to health when things went badly, because it sounds like you could have died!
[ AND THEN THEY COULD NEVER HAVE MET???? Youko hasn't noticed, but she's squeezing his hand pretty damn hard. LOGAN, YOU IDIOT... ]
no subject
[He pauses, then shakes his head.]
I... yes. I could have died in there.
[Logan glances away, he can't look at Youko as he continues.]
I can't remember everything about the encounter. I'm not sure how I made it out. I was able to reach the desert and I passed out. When I awoke, I was in the town of Aurora. It took months for me to recover to a point where I could return home and even then...
[His shoulders tense and Logan's hands curl into fists.]
...Some things never heal.
[Just in case you were wondering where the scars came from...]
no subject
...I do understand. I... may have been a little harsh.
[ Like with that grip, uh. Yeah, relaxing that now...
Perhaps she's wondered a little, by this point.
Her next words are reactive, rather than thought out. ]
Some things don't need to heal.
[ She's prepared to back it up, though. Youko offers him her unoccupied hand. ]
Give me your hand?
no subject
no subject
Would it be alright if I took this off for a moment? It's fine if the answer's no.
no subject
1/2
Nothing needs to heal for you to do this.
[ With that, she slides his hand up so that it's cupping her cheek. ]
2/2
And nothing needs to heal for me to do... this.
[ And with that, she slides his hand back down so that she can kiss the back of it.
She's careful to make sure her eyes are nowhere but his hand while she's completing the motion. He doesn't need to watched right now.
Once it's done, she sets his hand back down but doesn't let go. Now she'll watch to see what he'll do. ]
no subject
Well, Logan really doesn't know what to do with that. He's turning red, but it's a surprisingly subdued reaction given how pale he is. He glances away and while it looks like he might be sort of angry, it's very clear that that's not what this is.]
I-- Yes, well, that's... You're right, of course.
[He normally doesn't trip over his words this badly, alright.
That was so cute though...]
no subject
She still doesn't let go. ]
Of course I am!
[ ...That's honestly a little weak, for her. ]
So... you like the chickens, right? Would you tell me about it?
[ She wouldn't do this with anyone else, but Logan's so... serious? Earnest? That she expects he'll give her a serious answer. ]
no subject
Yes, I do. I had a pet chicken when I was a child. My mother was always fond of dogs, but I never cared for them much, so she threw some other ideas out there and apparently I thought a chicken sounded like a great pet. Unsurprisingly, father was horrified and Sir Walter wasn't amused.
Mother allowed me to take Rex everywhere with me, including to any hearings I was sitting in on. Apparently she saw no problems with having a chicken in the throne room.
[...It was because it was hilarious, his mother had the worst sense of humor.]
no subject
[ where does she even start with that ]
Are they common pets in Albion? I think they're just livestock in Japan.
[ Although given there was a "unsurprisingly horrified" in there, maybe not. ]
So when you were a little prince... you sat in on hearings... and brought your pet chicken with you.
[ ... ]
I've never pictured anything cuter.
[ MAY AS WELL JUST SAY IT because what the heck, that's so cute ]
You'd be hugging it, right? Please tell me you'd be hugging Rex.
[ cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute ]
no subject
[They're livestock in Albion as well, but they have a tendency to escape and just sort of wander the streets sometimes. No one finds this weird.]
Ah... Of course. I was very shy when I was a child; I didn't like to talk to anyone other than my parents. Having Rex with me made things a bit easier.
[Okay, so it was more like cripplingly shy, but he eventually got over it!]
