RESISTANCE MEETING 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

[Like last week, the conference room is set up with enough chairs for everyone (two less than last week) but there isn't any food provided because of the uh... dinner party. Hopefully that didn't go so poorly that the entire group has been split or anything, that would certainly suck.

But once again it's time to discuss the state of things here. Logan's in the same seat he was last time at one end of the table. He's particularly distracted today and he can't seem to focus on that book he's been carrying around, so he'll start things a little earlier today.]

As I'm sure you all know, this week's incentive could easily motivate someone to attempt to murder someone. We need to discuss the state of things here - has anyone found anything since the last meeting? Nighttime patrols have been discussed and I believe Giovanni was handling that. Do we have any other ideas for how we could prevent any more deaths?

[The extra empty seats in the conference room were the first thing Rakka noticed, places where there would normally be a fish guardswoman, and a grandma witch. It was... unnerving, and Rakka had to tear her gaze away from those seats.]

Umm... [She speaks up a little, sitting up straight in her chair.] The Conductor told me that it's Autumn right now, and it's going to be winter, soon too! [Not that any of them could tell if that was true.]

And, apparently... someone is slowly giving us our memories back, but it's not the Conductor.

[Autumn. That doesn't explain much, as he's missing years.]

Did he say what year it is? Does he know about these memories?

[A little shake of her head signaled the answer.]

I wanted to ask, but he told me not to worry about it, and he doesn't know what day it is.

[housenurse]

Maybe time doesn't exist here! It'd make sense, since we're all from different times and places in the first place...

[midnightsea]

I don't believe that's how time works. Even if it doesn't pass the same way between this place and any other, it's still passing all the same from our perspective.

[housenurse]

How do we know? Just because Conductor-san tells us night and day is happening doesn't mean it is! How would we know if we can't see out any windows?

Umm, I think that's why we have that huge clock in the foyer.

[housenurse]

Clocks...

can be manipulated!

[charcoalfeather]

[Gasp!]

H-have you seen anyone messing with it?

[housenurse]

Well, no... But, that doesn't mean nobody has!

[charcoalfeather]

Oooh.... [Well she's thinking now.] So, it might not be the time the clock says?

[heymcfly]

I kinda wouldn't be surprised. He likes screwin' with us, so why not screw with the clock too?

If we were in a place where time itself simply didn't pass, would anything happen? Think of time less as a larger scale of night and day and more on the minute details of one second to the next.

[Dio silently held up three fingers and slowly put them down in turn.]

Three seconds. Whether 'night' and 'day' exist at the pace we recognize them or indeed exist at all, three seconds remains three seconds in which one breathes, thinks, and exists. While ordinarily I would love to explore the deep philosophical concepts of the passage of time, for now we can acknowledge that it passes at some unknown ratio of seconds to hours to days and weeks, and leave it at that.

[Instead of snapping as he'd probably have done to anyone else, Dio merely sighed and adjusted the choker around his neck with a frown.]
