RESISTANCE MEETING 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

[Like last week, the conference room is set up with enough chairs for everyone (two less than last week) but there isn't any food provided because of the uh... dinner party. Hopefully that didn't go so poorly that the entire group has been split or anything, that would certainly suck.

But once again it's time to discuss the state of things here. Logan's in the same seat he was last time at one end of the table. He's particularly distracted today and he can't seem to focus on that book he's been carrying around, so he'll start things a little earlier today.]

As I'm sure you all know, this week's incentive could easily motivate someone to attempt to murder someone. We need to discuss the state of things here - has anyone found anything since the last meeting? Nighttime patrols have been discussed and I believe Giovanni was handling that. Do we have any other ideas for how we could prevent any more deaths?

Cyanide seems faster but no way to obtain, injections though? 2nd floor

Bottles from 1st floor machine have arsenic but not sure of the taste"

I don't know if there's any way to tell if someone has been poisoned by a simple examination; that seems the kind of thing a mortician would need to do.

Chloral hydrate...that dissolves in water. You can put it in people's drinks. But where would anybody get some around here?

I'm not sure. I'm worried it might mean that it's possible to obtain here.

There's also the matter of where I found it in the first place-- in a copy of the book And Then There Were None. It's a novel by Agatha Christine about people who are trapped on an island and killed off one-by-one.

In correspondence with me, the Conductor told me he stocked the library himself.

[Which, in Cabanela's mind, means they're left with two options as far as possible events go.]

I really caaan't say I'm surprised by his taste in fiction.

It does make me wonder about the origin of the note.

There are enough petitions and notes on the fridge that a handwriting check wouldn't be too difficult, would it?

I'll be doing a check after our meeting tonight.

[It's not that he doesn't trust the resistance, he just doesn't want there to be a mob in case it matches someone. They'll want to handle this delicately.]

Smart plan. I wonder why they decided to leave it in a book, though...wouldn't something like that be better left to one of their own personal notebooks?

Speaking of, here's mine if you want to do a check for me now.

[ She slides over her notebook to Cabanela across the table, full of lists of her daily inventories; storeroom on right pages, infirmary on left. ]

Unless someone's become adept at forging my handwriting, it shouldn't match.

I don't know. It seeeems like a bad idea, doesn't it? It's a good way to get caught.

[He looks over her handwriting for a moment before he pulls the sheet of paper out again to look at it before replacing it back in his pocket.]

Good. So that's one person to wipe off the "suspicious" list...

What should we assume, if it turns out that none of us wrote it?

I'm not sure.

Jean found that list of names in a journal, so maybe we'll have to assume something else-- that this has happened before, and maaaaybe it was a note from a previous murder.

[It's not a pleasant thought.]

I doubt it would be the Conductor's.

No, it doesn't seem too likely for him to leave incriminating evidence around.

Not that we'd ever know it. He types all those letters out.

He'd deny it, if he was asked about it, I'm certain.

I also can't imagine he'd be willing to give me a handwriting sample.

It would be unlike him to try and kill us directly. But he's obviously not above helping it along.

We may want to be careful about where we accept drinks.

Just in case, we may want to make our own drinks for the time being-- and avoid drinking anything if we've left it out in the open.

Well, the title is the same-- and flipping through it, the events are the same, even if the names of places are changed and some of the characters are different.

Odd. It could just be something from this universe regardless. I must admit that I don't know the specifics, but it could be like the countries, where some of us have countries like "Japan" or "Kanto" instead of "Sakura Country."

I assume as much-- it would make sense for there to be some similarities between worlds-- I'm sure other people would be able to find things that look similar to books from their own world.

Buuut neither of us are running this show. I guess that means he gets to call the shots when it comes to the contents of the library.
