Week 4.

WEEK 4 Ashley Williams and Asuka Langley Shikinami have joined the ranks of the deceased. Two more deaths, two more people whose absences will be felt by the group; a bit over one-fifth of the Participants are dead. And this week, it seems everyone is feeling it. They say three times can be considered a routine, and the fourth week of the exercise isn't breaking pattern any. Saturday can be given to rest and sleep; on Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock. There are no more bodies, no more bloodstains; there's nothing else to be found this morning. Unless, of course, you count whatever you found last night, strange dreams or otherwise. Once again, there's a new floor to explore; after everything that trial decided to be yesterday, you deserve the reward. And for the second time, there are rule changes, effective immediately. People who haven't come to terms with the fact that, like, we don't really have control over this situation. Also who finally realized that, like, even your friends can stab you in the back.

Yeah, but like. Optimism. [She knows Susan's not, but.] It's dumb, but it exists.

After all this time?

[It's quiet, mostly to herself. She reaches into the water to pick up the coin purse and see how it's doing.]

Ashley was the first person I knew well who died here. I don't know how they manage, getting so upset every single week.

[zomgboom]

For some people, like. That's how they cope or whatever. [Tabby's coping mechanism is pretending like she doesn't care and stealing stuff.] And yeah. You'd be surprised, like, how optimistic people can be. It's not bad, you just have to not let it . . .

[AKWARDLY TRAILS OFF. She was about to describe Ashley there and she's pretty sure that would be insensitive.]

I'm surprised they can hold onto it through all this...but good for them, I suppose. We can't all just give up.

Some people are all Captain America or whatever, right, and when, like, bad stuff happens they just drown everything in optimism. [Some people are the Nextwave team and they blow stuff up when bad stuff happens.] It's, like. A superpower. A boring one.

It's the only one any of us have got left.

[Though she...doesn't really disagree that it's not too helpful.]

I dunno. I probably still can't, like, be mind-controlled or whatever - not a superpower for, like, getting out of here but it's, like, a thing. Also I can still steal stuff.

[Which, according to her canon, is a legit superpower she possesses.]

Hey, do you, like, know about DNA? You're, like, medical and stuff.

[Stealing stuff is absolutely not a superpower...]

Yeah...a bit, I guess. Why?

Can you, like, change someone's DNA? Because I dunno, Mutants all have the X-gene and if I don't have powers then I obviously don't have the X-gene or whatever so like. I don't get how you do that without, like, removing it.

I think that would be impossible.

Of course, going by the rules of my world, superheroes are impossible. I've never heard of this X-gene in my life. So take that how you will, I guess.

It's, like. Alien stuff. They came and messed around and so now, like, mutants exist.

[Comics are great.]

...and the mutants have superpowers.
