Week 4.

WEEK 4 Ashley Williams and Asuka Langley Shikinami have joined the ranks of the deceased. Two more deaths, two more people whose absences will be felt by the group; a bit over one-fifth of the Participants are dead. And this week, it seems everyone is feeling it. They say three times can be considered a routine, and the fourth week of the exercise isn't breaking pattern any. Saturday can be given to rest and sleep; on Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock. There are no more bodies, no more bloodstains; there's nothing else to be found this morning. Unless, of course, you count whatever you found last night, strange dreams or otherwise. Once again, there's a new floor to explore; after everything that trial decided to be yesterday, you deserve the reward. And for the second time, there are rule changes, effective immediately. Instant food? It's easier to make than just getting the ingredients. I've never actually had any, but apparently people do it all the time.

I have no idea, to be honest... But! If I just follow the directions, I'm sure it'll make itself clear.

Those boxes didn't look like food to me, so I always just ignored them!

I suppose there's no good reason not to. Now, it says here to boil the water and then put this powder packet in, then use the whisk.

Right! Well... go ahead!

How will we know when it's ready?

There's a time limit on the instructions, too. [Carefully whisking the mix in.] Must this keep clumping up...

And the time limit is...?

Do you want me to do that? I didn't use those back home, but here's been a different story.

Well, it says "bring to a boil, stirring continuously, then simmer for three minutes," so I'll assume we whisk this until it's dissolved... I suppose it couldn't hurt?

[She cautiously lets go and steps back from the stove.]

Right! ...How long do you think it's been going for already?

[ whisk whisk! ]

It's hard to tell without a clock, but it shouldn't matter at this point, right?

But what if we overcook it?

[ WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU OVERCOOK SOUP FROM A BOX?? ]

We won't if we just make sure the mix dissolves into the boiling water and then keep the lid on for three minutes!

I hope you're right!

[ IF IT BURNS IT'LL PROBABLY SMELL AWFUL ]

Of course I'm right! ...I think. Er, how are you doing with that stirring?

[clearasmud]

[ Uh ]

Fine, I hope. But what makes you so sure?

It's supposed to be for beginners! It can't be that hard.

In that case... I guess I'll trust you.

[ now hopefully this doesn't end in tears and/or murder.

THREE MINUTES WITHOUT INCIDENT LATER... ]

It's time! Do you have the bowls ready?
