Afterparty 5.0

[There's not much that can be believed about that trial. Or that execution. Still, like before, two hours after everyone leaves, they'll find a note slipped underneath their doors.]

We have to stick together. The dining room is there for anyone that needs a quiet space, and I cooked dinner.

Hibiki made some coffee and dessert for all of us.

[Today's selection includes potato pancakes and a light coffee cake. Hibiki has lit two more candles in the dining hall. It doesn't take long before Mordecai lights a third.]

You're right, of course.

[Skipping meals has never been anything he's intentionally done, but Logan is Not Good at looking after himself. He's a disaster when left on his own.]

[He hesitates, then shakes his head. Logan's pretty distracted today, apparently.]

[ Congratulations you two, you both get Approving Looks. Satisfied, Youko nods to herself and takes her first bite. ]

It was rough. [ Youko hums thoughtfully. ] ...Probably roughest of all on Cabanela. I think I'll bring him something to eat after this.

[ She did sort of suspect him of a double homicide for a while there and all. ]

...That doesn't mean he has dibs feeling awful, though! So don't tell yourself you shouldn't feel bad because you're not him if you feel bad, alright?

[ He wasn't going to feel like Cabanela had a monopoly on feeling bad anyway, but it's always nice to hear the reaffirmation. ]

Yeah, I don't think anybody with any moral compass at all would be too happy about being accused of killing two kids who didn't even know how to fight back.

[ ... Judging by his tone, he's especially upset about the "kids who couldn't fight back" part. After all, he's pretty close in age to both Rakka and Morty... ]

I'll have to speak with him later.

[Dio's journal had some information on that and Cabanela needs to know. Plus, Logan really needs to apologize for being suspicious at all. He really should have known better.]

The only thing to do now is continue to try to move forward. We can get in contact with them so that's...

It doesn't make things much easier, but at least it is a possibility now.

[ AH, THE LIVING DEAD... a welcome discovery, but still a strange one to come to terms with. Maybe it would be easier if communication were easier... or maybe it'd be harder. They weren't to be moved on from, at any rate. ]

...It's strange, isn't it? Their afterlife. How did the Conductor manage that, sending them all to an enclosed space they can't move beyond, or meet with other deceased in? Besides that woman.

... I could be wrong, but I don't think Obs — the Conductor's the one who's keeping them around. It's probably God. Or some guy who the Conductor calls God, at least.

[ Bakugou isn't convinced that "God" is truly some kind of deity, but it's all relative, he knows. ]

I was wondering about that as well. I doubt the Conductor would want them to stay around. He is the reason we're stuck here, after all. If the ghosts are capable of manipulating objects, what is to say they wouldn't go after him?

[...okay, if the conductor gets knifed by a ghost he's not sure what he'll do, but it's a nice thought.]

Well, they said they can't contact him. If they're limited in where they can go, maybe they can't reach him either. Either way, it's a bit much for someone who calls himself a human, isn't it? But Reaver did as well, so...

[ so maybe he's just full of shit on that one front. ]

...I guess there's something he likes about calling himself human, at any rate. He could claim otherwise and many would believe him. [ She would! ]

The Conductor having someone to answer to, though... maybe he's a player in a game too. Just a slightly different one.

I don't think they can go after him, yeah. I asked Kaneki [ ... he thinks, he's pretty sure, IT WAS COMMUNICATION VIA EYEPATCH SO IT COULD BE ASUKA OR UNDYNE... ] if he could go anywhere that we can't normally access, and he said no, so I'm pretty sure they have the same physical boundaries we do.

[ If nothing else, at least this conversation is a good distraction from the trial. It's easy to concentrate on a different problem at hand. ]

And... I dunno, I think not that straightforward, the relationship between the Conductor and his God. [ FB relationship status: It's Complicated. ] He told me he isn't in direct contact with God.

We don't know how much of what he says is the truth. I haven't spoken with him long enough to get an idea of whether he's being honest or not.

...Albion does not have gods, so I'll admit I have no idea what to do with that portion of it. If the Conductor is human then clearly he has something working with him. That shadow monster doesn't strike me as the sort to be a god, but perhaps that is because I have faced different shadows that seemed more powerful.

[ Exactly, Bakugou. ]

He says he likes honesty... but a liar would say that too.

We have gods, but... [ Youko frowns, pausing for some more croquette. ] When everyone else talks about gods - or A God - it gets confusing really quickly, because they're so... different. A god that can take 29 people from across time, space, and who knows what else while also stripping them of their powers and memories?! That's insane!!

[ ............and apparently she'd bottled up more frustration than she'd realized about that.

Nah, whenever he doesn't want to say something, he just doesn't say it. I guess you could still say he's lying by that definition? But I don't think he lies in the straightforward way.

[ he can't believe he's saying this but HE'S PRETTY SURE HE HAS THIS RIGHT... What did he draw that dick pic and send a bunch of other embarrassing letters for if not to get a character assessment, god knows (God knows?) he is barely being productive otherwise. ]

... That's not that unbelievable, except the time and space part.

[Logan tips his head a bit as he considers that.]

All of it is incredibly difficult to imagine, but as being here has proved, all of our worlds are vastly different. Who is to say that he is not from a world where something like this is possible? Perhaps we're still looking at it in terms of our worlds and not his; maybe our concern should not be how this happened, but why.

[ Youko boggles at Bakugou's nonchalance, but then Logan says his piece and... well. He's probably right. ]

...Since he's referred to this as an experiment before, I asked him if he really wanted to just observe - or if there was something he wanted to prove, either to himself or others.

He said... [ Wording, wording, what was it... ] It was mostly the former, but the latter did "factor in". That it was a bit of both.

-Oh, and that the group was already providing the results he'd wondered about? I asked him what those were in case he'd actually answer if I asked, but he didn't.

See, that's what I mean. When he doesn't want to reveal the truth, he just doesn't say anything, it's different from straightforward lying.

[ It's weird, in Bakugou's opinion, because the Conductor doesn't even have to talk to them at all... ]

Anyway.... he did tell me this is related to some kinda project he was working on, so that all lines up.
