[About an hour after the trial and subsequent execution, Cabanela makes a decision.

They need to do something, keep the morale up, however little it may be.

Under each occupied room door people will find the following note written:


In difficult times such as this, it is important to carry on.
Don't give into despair; we must preservere.
If you don't want to be alone this evening, meet me in the dining hall.

[Upon entering the dinning hall, you will find Cabanela sitting at one of the tables; he has lit two candles that are placed at the center of the table, but there's nothing else to note.

You'll have to supply your own food, since he doesn't have much of an appetite.]

[Vivacious. That's her title.

Really, when she gets her note, she wants to stay in her room. She feels awful. She has so many things to say to so many people, but she knows better than to let herself get upset over this. She doesn't want to lose. Reaver...and Logan, who must have known somehow...and Ken...there are so many thoughts running through her mind, but when she steps into the dining room?

She has a weak smile on her face.

She's also wearing a red scarf (she thought it might be nice to try something colorful) and carrying what looks like a frame. She'll take her seat, but she'll also speak out to the room in general.]

Does anyone feel like lookin' at something with me?

[She must be referring to the frame, but she's trying to invite people in, get some conversation going.

Half of her is ready to act, the other half is still the real Hibiki.]

[ The room's kind of quiet until a voice speaks up. Marty has absolutely no idea who she is, but he starts her way despite this. It was so incredibly somber (for obvious reasons though), and it was starting to drive him crazy. His hands are warming in his pockets, his hair a little on the unkempt side. He's just happy he got out of his room enough to say he was here.

He stands beside her, looking over her shoulder curiously. ] Whatcha got?

[With the best smile she can manage (which is, again, not as vibrant as her profile picture), she flips the frame so that a real smile is showing. It's a girl surrounded by her pets, and Marty probably has enough detective skills to deduce who the girl is.]

I got this from that awful vending machine. [But there's some energy to her voice.] It's really great, right?

[She's trying not to be self-centered, she's trying to spread some happier times. Maybe.]

[ Hardly self-centered at all! Marty's eyes are quickly drawn to the cute little picture...especially the crocodile. It's suddenly like the day's events mutate into some weird emotions, and a laugh escapes him. The last thing he thought he would be doing right now!

Marty quickly points to the green lizard thing behind her. ] Is that a croc? You have a pet crock?

[How's Hibiki bouncing back so quick...? In her kind of strange, half-there state, Ashley raises her head and peers at the frame.]

What is it?

You remember how my profile says I like animals a lot, right?

[She turns the frame to reveal her photo. It's a photo she'd rather look at than a greyed out photo of a potential friend any day.]

It's great, right? I thought maybe people would like seein' something nice.

[She might be smiling, but she still sounds tired, distant, like she's trying hard not to show how she's really feeling.]

[Oh, well. Ashley blinks in surprise.]

There's an alligator behind you, Hibiki.

[Well, that scarf sure looks familiar. He actually stops when she speaks, ready to respond to her, but the scarf makes his brain do a record skip.]

Where did you get that scarf?

It's from the vending machine. It looked kinda familiar, but I couldn't really place it.

[She's just wearing it to be different. It feels kind of good to wear something that isn't normal.]

Why do ya ask?

It suuure looks a lot like my lucky scarf.

[And he knows that people can get their belongings from the vending machine.]

...You can go ahead and keep it. It looks cute on you.

[Mordecai looks up from his plate. This whole day of missed breakfasts, murders, and executions has left him famished, and he doesn't want his meal interrupted. With a shrug, he returns to his meal. He can't be distracted. The gravity of the situation grows ever heavier knowing that one murderer jeopardizes everyone's lives. Next time, they might not be so lucky and pick the wrong person to execute, then die. Or he could be a target. Or he might be stuck here forever.

No, he needs a distraction. He stands up.]

It's a photo from home. See?

[She's a bit surprised Barkeep is coming over to talk to her, but she doesn't mind. They all survived that...that trial together, and her annoyance at him is easily forgotten in the face of adversity and fatigue.]

Don't they all look beautiful?

[He expected a picture of her and her family or friends. More likely, a fake photo like the one he got meant to annoy her.]

[Hello, trial neighbor! Hibiki shows Sukuyo the same frame everyone else is looking at.]

Mm, I did! I got a picture of my family from back home, see?

-- They're so cute! You all look so happy! [note to self: refrain from cooking with pork.]

[ Sol will actually move to go and sit by Hibiki, curious. ]

[And Hibiki props up the same picture she's showed everyone else.]

I got this from the vending machine! I was expectin' another weapon or something, but it was actually somethin' nice this time, hehe. What do ya think?

[ Yuuri snaps out of his thoughts when he hears a voice, and he turns to see Hibiki. He smiles—as much as he can, at least—and walks over to her. ]

[And it's time to look at Hibiki's photo. Hopefully this is the only photo of her that ends up in this place; no black and white photos of her to be hung up anywhere.]

[ The picture actually gets a smile out of him, and he nods. ]
