WEEK 5 Tabitha Smith, Sigrun Eide, and Solf J Kimblee are all dead. Regardless of what you think of the trial or the events leading up to it, there's no denying that you can feel the dent in your numbers now. After all, ten people are gone now. It may be hard, but all you can do is keep going. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... What with Jericho's excitement at the last trial, it's evident now more than ever that the new floor that's opened up to you is a gift, a reward for a job well-done. Because while surviving is something that you'll continue to try to do of your own merit...well. Let's say that he's so, so very proud of you. In time? It's been weeks, how much more time do you figure we're going to have?

[bloodbiter]

If things continue at this rate, it may be a while before we return home. You must realize that.

[matchbreaker]

What I realize is that if it's been weeks and my eyes haven't adjusted then they're not going to. Or if they are, it's going to be far too long for any of you lot to still be alive.

[bloodbiter]

[A pause, but then... A laugh, despite herself. Despite everything.]

I intend to stay alive far longer than it takes your eyes to adjust, for what it is worth.

[matchbreaker]

[ That's not going to happen, is what her mind thinks before she can help it. Adelina might not be able to make it out in the darkness, but Elda looks around the room, around at all the walls (where, again, probably too dark to see but dozens and dozens of sketches are duct taped to the walls) ]

That's a good way for you to be thinking about it.

[bloodbiter]

It is more than just a thought. I have survived too much to perish in a place like this.

[matchbreaker]

[ That doesn't make you immune, you uppity brat. That's her first thought but... no, Adelina's been a reliable girl, hasn't she? ]

Belief, then. Practice.

[ she brushes past the bed, running her hand on the wall. ]

[bloodbiter]

Believing is all well and good, but... I intend to take steps to make it so, as well, of course.

[As best she can, she watches as Elda stands and touches the wall.]

What is it?

[matchbreaker]

What, you're going to stand atop my corpse?

[ She's not going to answer that implied second part, even as she pulls a sketch of - Adelina herself - from the wall. ]

[bloodbiter]

—What?

[She clearly didn't see that question coming, if the shock in her voice is any indication.]

No, I simply meant - I will not take any risks.

[matchbreaker]

Victory - and you life, for that matter - isn't assured that way.

[ she looks over the sketch, comparing it between it and the girl. She... frowns a little, and she folds it up. ]

Of course, if you did try that, you'd be put in the pit, drop you myself.

[bloodbiter]

You needn't act as though I do not know that. I'm not a child. But - you must admit that being cautious is certainly wiser than the alternative.

[A sigh, a bit exasperated.]

I would never try to do something like that to you, or anyone else.

[matchbreaker]

Your baring is that of a warrior. Do not think I am ignorant - we both know that's not impossible for you.

[ and you are a child. ]

[bloodbiter]

It isn't impossible for me to do so if I were properly motivated, but it is impossible for them to offer me something that would provide that motivation.

[matchbreaker]

You have nothing you hold dear?

[ she said, deeply skeptical. ]

[bloodbiter]

Of course I do. But if I were willing to kill to preserve those things, I would no longer deserve to have them. Nothing I hold dear is worth ending someone's life.

[matchbreaker]

Not your kingdom? Your husband? Your sister?

[ Like...

Damn girl if that's the case she's not sure if she's disgusted or impressed. ]

[bloodbiter]

...Neither of them would want me to doom this many people to protect them. They are too good for such a thing.

[But there's a hint of doubt in her voice. After that motive... She shakes her head.]

And I do not believe they could put my entire kingdom at risk, besides.

[matchbreaker]

Couldn't they?

[ she smirks a little. ]

Time, space, dimensions? Maybe it's founder was never born. Maybe they teleport the armies of your enemies into the heart of your capitol. What isn't possible with that power?

[bloodbiter]

[She shakes her head.]

I can guarantee that we have faced worse threats than what they could give to us.

[She - has to believe that.]

Could you say the same? That there is nothing you would kill for?

[matchbreaker]

No.

[ She says that just as quickly. ]

Of course I would never say that.

[bloodbiter]

...I will hope that it does not come to that, then.

[She doesn't want anyone else to die, of course, but... She doesn't want to lose Elda, either.

Still, there's the hint of a smirk.]

And I would advise you to not make your attempt on my life.

[matchbreaker]

As I said, you've the baring of a warrior. Don't think I am one too. There's far more fragile ones here than you.

[ Plus she... is fond of Adelina. So she wouldn't, not directly. ]

[bloodbiter]

...If you are ever considering such a thing, would you at least consult with me beforehand?

[matchbreaker]

Well, you did barge in now, did you not?

[ She picks up another one off the wall.
