Week 8.

WEEK 8 Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it? Is there anything you can do? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign. Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 12

[She thinks that over, and then shakes her head.]

All of us were coerced in such a way, with a loved one being in peril, yet many of us refused to kill one of our number. Forcing over thirty people to involve themselves in a sadistic exercise like this for that reason... It still would be far from justified,

Understanding why someone did something and finding their actions justifiable are two very different things. Even if I could sympathize with Jericho and Hilda, that would not absolve them of the crimes they have committed. It just means that their penance could be paid in other ways than with their lives.

[ His is just like...all twos. Really, it sucks. ]

Why, you think you're better at it than I am?

[ He almost asked if he thought he was more experienced, but damnit he couldn't since Luca was older than him. ]

[She thinks for a moment, but then:]

I'm not certain I agree with that distinction. After all - if we understood their reasoning, but it was extremely poor reasoning that would lead to more people being hurt in the future... That wouldn't change what they deserved.

[matchbreaker]

[ Well, once she's up today, Elda sort of wanders around for a bit, not wanting to be in her room, but also not sure where she wants to be. She ends up just sort of ghosting around all over the place until 3PM when she takes the Silph Scope and goes to library #1 in order to check to see if anyone left messages today. She did day daily, and this becomes a part of her schedule.

But... For the rest of the day? A part of her wants to throw a party, but she had no ideas and that would be tacky after that motive and... the only reason she did was to honor the memory of a woman who had told her it was too short since to miss. Caught up in that emotion and frustrated for it, she ends up going to the Billiards Room where she's ... trying and failing to really break effectively? It's clear she has played before a little but it's also not something she's at all skilled at and it's frustrating her. She huffs as this goes on, and puts her hand on her hip, glaring at the set up as if that'll help.

So... eventually she ends up back the Dining Room, playing with Ditty by way of rolling one of the glass eyes from the vending machine back and forth with the blob. But whenever someone comes in, glancing either at the secrets or the candles, ]

So tell me something I don't know. Otherwise, I'll ask you a silly question.

[Well, all twos would be a 4 of a kind, which would be a pretty great hand ngl]

Oh, I think so. The opening hand will prove it, too.

[He's not going to fold, though. He waits a moment to see if Yuri will fold before saying anything else.]

[He pauses as he considers that.]

We could always break their hands for punishment. It would be hard to run anything without functioning hands.

[bloodbiter]

[She pauses, surprised, but then it gets a laugh from her just from how unexpected it is.]

It certainly wouldn't be the retribution they would expect. I'd like to see the looks on their faces as we did.

[bloodbiter]

[She looks down at her as she slips and slides the last book back where it was a moment ago, starting to step down the ladder.]

...I don't know. I was hoping for something helpful.

[matchbreaker]

In a library? Like what, some magic tome?

[ She'll take off the dumb goggles to talk with her, at least... that seems more polite... ]

[bloodbiter]

Yes. Or... Anything that would have helped us escape this week, I suppose.

[As she gets back onto the ground floor, she takes in a breath, sighing.]

I suspected I would not find anything, but - I am not certain what else I can do.

[matchbreaker]

[ She nods. ]

Honestly, I know the feeling. I meant to look around for more hidden doodads and... well, I wouldn't even really know where to start at this point. I know everyone's found a lot more than me.

[hesperos]

Yeah?

[ He loves to fight. Excessively so--he's practically a blood knight, so, you know. ]

I'm surprised. I got the impression you liked to go around kicking ass and taking names.

[ Yuri... ]

[matchbreaker]

Oh please, please! I know my way around things and I can defend myself, but don't make that seem like I'm some brawler or anything. I am a lady.

[ She laughs at this, evil old lady style. ]

[bloodbiter]

It's more than a bit frustrating, if I'm being honest, especially with the incentive they gave today.

[She takes a seat as she comes towards her, gesturing for Elda to do the same if she chooses.]

[matchbreaker]

[ She doesn't feel like sitting, but it would be weird to stand. She compromises by way of leaping up onto a chair and crouching on it like a frog or something. She hangs her head.

... It's true, frustrating is an understatement. Even if it seems so surreal, this incentive. The threat to it is enormous. ]

You're right, that's too small.

[ a finger drags along the arm of the chair. ]

[bloodbiter]

[She glances over at her, but then back at the ground, frowning. This... It's bothering her more than any other temptation has.]

Do you think they are telling us the truth?

[About their worlds.]

[matchbreaker]

No.

[ Right? No? She... she chose to believe that earlier, but despite how quickly she answered that, she ends up running her long claw along the arm again. She looks around the room before focusing on Adelina.

I'll Win. She had promised that. And... to do that... Mmm. ]

... That world of mine has lasted for millions and billions of years. It's... to think of it just ending seems absurd.

[bloodbiter]

I am inclined to agree with you.

[Because... If she doesn't agree with her, she won't be able to face the choices she might need to make.]

...We survived plague, and monsters that most worlds haven't known, and we have overcome both. To destroy us, the plight must be unimaginably dire. So, I don't trust what they have told us.

[matchbreaker]

[ Once more, the nail runs on the arm. It ends up scratching into the wood. ]

I'm further frustrated by his wording, but that's nothing new.

[bloodbiter]

[A tilt of her head.]

Which part of his wording, if I may ask?

Which way the incentive works. It is as the secrets, where only the one who attempts it secures salvation, or does one person secure it for everyone, as with the timer and some others? I can't parse it at all.

[bloodbiter]

You could always clarify it with Hilda, I imagine.

[But...]

If they are not lying outright... I pray that all our worlds will be saved if one person acts. [A sigh.] Though I'm aware that's incredibly selfish.

[matchbreaker]

Nah, that's something everyone's going to feel.

[ She leans back a little. ]

... I'm not sure I want to be scolded by Hilda for that though, precisely because it is so selfish.

[bloodbiter]

[A thoughtful pause.]

I have no qualms with speaking to her about it, if you would like me to.
