Week 8.

WEEK 8 Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it? Is there anything you can do? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign. Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 12

What are you talking about? She's your sister, you're her sister, and we're going to go and get her the minute we're out of this game.

[ She taps her finger pointedly on the table. Wait, no. ]

... Well and I get Sayaka and Alex to Shihaba, but after that.

I'm telling you it doesn't work like that. [Rin clenches her fist.] Don't complicate things for me! I didn't ask for your help.

[matchbreaker]

You just told me about it! So what, do we need to crush the Matous? I'll do it.

[heritrix]

I'll do it. I don't need you.

[Gritting her teeth, Rin folds her arms across her chest and aggressively at the other wall.]

I'll kill that bastard Zouken for everything he's done, and Sakura can live her life freely after that, in whatever way she likes. She'll want nothing to do with me, so I'm not going to drag her back to my house like some caveman brute, and I won't have time for more than that anyways. That'll have to be enough.

[evilfrenzy]

Ah, I see it now. [Or he at least acknowledges that Yuri is doing his best.] I promise I was not purposefully criticizing you.

[But, oh... Yuri wants him to try?

Distractions. Any distractions count. So, after a pause for consideration, he rises to his feet to join Yuri by the candles.]

I honestly doubt I'll do much better, but let's see here...

[He vaguely remembers a dog version of this that he's seen before, so he tries to replicate that shadow with his hands. His hands aren't quite in the right position so it looks wonky, but he's aiming it to make the shadow looks like a dog head howling upward.]

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, mage-girl.

[ Elda smirks, licking a finger a little as she does. Well, on one hand. The other one taps on the table. ]

You've a ready-made ally in me, and I'll help you see it through. I can't say I know the girl, but I doubt that second part, if you can call that Matou man so awful.

[Rin turns her head, and stares back at Elda again.]

Who would want to see the sister that was picked over you, if you were ripped from your family without any say in the matter. Terrible things were done to her, and that it was her and not me probably came down to a coin flip.

[She's gritting her teeth again, and forces herself to relax her jaw. But she's irritated now, and that probably comes across in the way she tosses her hair, and tries to project a level of calm she doesn't feel.]

The way she probably sees it, I stole her life. On top of everything else, I stole the boy she loves as well. You're crazy if you think she's not going to hold a grudge over any of that!

[matchbreaker]

You're not her, Rin.

[ She'll actually use her name here, her voice holding firm. ]

Sounds like you did rob her of a lot, and sure, she's got every right to be pissed if she wants. But if you're planning a rescue, then you're planning a rescue. You don't get to pre-decide the outcome on her end any more than you're sane to refuse my help.

[heritrix]

[Whatever retort that was in her throat seems to stutter and die. Is that... She thinks that's the first time Elda's ever used her name. And maybe...

Rin looks away from Elda again, and her eyes move from side to side. Maybe she's right? Maybe it would be crueler to deny Sakura a choice than it would be to showboat everything Rin has and she doesn't to her face. Maybe it would be kinder to say goodbye, instead of spare her from the chance to get to know each other, only for whatever circus of a trial the Mage's Association is going to make her go under, which will likely see her fleeing on the run.

She knows what Shirou would say, if he were here. She can't let herself think of that, not with this motive. It'll break her heart completely. So Rin shakes her head and stands, intending to leave the dining room.]

I can't think about this right now. I have bigger problems.

[She's going to walk away, without looking back.]

That is entirely possible... And a shame, since poranges make for some fine bourbon.

[...of course his first thought would go to alcohol right now.]

[Rin laughs, lightly.] Bourbon would probably go alright with that sandwich, too. I made some juice earlier to go with it, but maybe you'd like that instead.

Hasn't going through this been punishment enough?

[His tone begins with a bite there, but quickly dies off as he sighs.]

...Maybe not. I've actually had some positive experiences here.

Ah, that's true. We do indirectly share that tradition.

[Some weeks, he finds himself particularly in need of a strong drink. But anyway, on to this...]

Depends. What type of alcohol have you found to be your preferred type?

Ah, yes. She did bring them up, didn't she? Yes, this is exactly what she was talking about. I happened to retrieve mine from the vending machine quite some time ago.

[Since he has battery life to spare, he'll go ahead and show Elda the camera function after powering the phone on.]

It's convenient to have a basic camera on a phone. It's one less thing to carry with you, and phones are already useful enough to have on your person at all times. Plus, you can send the photos you take to others via text messages and emails.

[Hmm. He leans against the counter a little bit.]

That requires venturing to the bar, and I am not in the mood for getting caught in a conversation with anyone who happens to be around. What is the juice?

[ But that protest is halfhearted, and she can't help but glow under the praise. They...are definitely better than anything she's made before, especially on her own. Pretty good for the girl who kept messing up scrambled eggs, right? ]

Well. I think you should avert certain deaths before you work things out, but once that's done, you should... go ahead and do that.

[ I mean that depends a lot on if it's locked or jammed. She's about strong enough to throw a grown man over her shoulder and judo throw them. So pretty much a strong as if she were 30-40 lbs of muscles heavier but not particularly supernaturally terrifying. ]

How's the phone even work? I thought they pushed the voices through the wires they connect to.

[ ... and what's an email. Still, she does glance at the phone, leaning in to see both the screen and what he's demonstrating about it? Still, let's... well. Start at the basics. ]
