Week 8.

WEEK 8 Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it? Is there anything you can do? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign. Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 12

Oh no, they're just fine. Well, besides the obvious.

[The obvious being the son he will be rescuing as soon as they get out of here.]

...What? Did they just decide to fire you or something? You've got a son to support, though...!

[That is a mildly terrifying thing to think about...]

[Look at that suspicious pause there.]

I may have...yelled at a professor.

And then made a soldier punch himself in the face.

...I'm going to take it that he at least...uh, needed a good talking to. But...having a soldier punch themselves in the face seems...interesting, if nothing else?

Oh yes, he most definitely deserved it.

He made a rather crude remark about my being a foreigner and tried to shove me around.

...You know what, honestly, I'd do the exact same thing if I were in your position. What a jerk! I'm just sorry that it's costing you so much. That's an absolutely cruel thing to say to someone and I wish I could go over and do the same thing you did!

[PROCEEDS TO HUFF. She's gonna deck a man.]

As admirable as that is, you probably would not be able to do much to him. He was a trained soldier, after all. If I had to fight with my own body, I would not have won either.

[But it is nice, to have someone who agrees with him.]

Hey, Yuri-san's at least taught me how to throw a punch! Maybe I'd be lucky to leave a bruise...

[...she does deflate a bit, conceding the point.]

...I hope karma gets both of them, for your sake. That's so horrible...there's gotta be something you can do, isn't there?

[Honestly, there's nothing that can be done. Luca's position isn't that great of one back home. But he feels like he shouldn't burden her with those thoughts, since it is an injustice that won't be fixed anytime soon.]

Hopefully so. Maybe my knowledge from here will help me navigate my problems back home.

...I genuinely hope so. Such a horrid place like that, it sounds so terrifying. I'm sure you've learned something here you could use...

[God, she worries a lot for him.]

[He considers this for a moment, but then:]

Say my full name, perhaps?

[A weird request, for sure, but it's for a reason.]

[...It is, but Sayaka nods her head, and after a moment:]

Luca Valentino. Correct?

[It's not too hard to pronounce to her, at least!]

[When she says it right, without hesitation, Luca lets out a sigh of relief. For some reason, that was actually very important to him. And then he smiles once more.]

...It's no problem, not at all.

[Her look does go a little concerned, though.]

Do they not pronounce it right...?

[He shouldn't tell her, it's not baggage she needs to have-]

It is a small detail, I know. But sometimes those small details matter. Something like 'taking the time to learn a foreign name that is difficult for you to pronounce' can seem like a small detail, but to the person with the difficult name it can mean 'you work with that man every day and remembering his name is a very bare minimum level of respect you could show him'.

[...Oh.

Ohhhhhhhh, that is. That actually gets a bit of a softer look from Sayaka, and...if he'll let her, she'll put a hand on his shoulder with a bit of a sad smile.]

...They won't even do that much for you, will they? That's so horrible.

I wouldn't call it 'horrible', to be honest. It's more of an oversight on their part. Most of them probably don't even realize that it can be a bother.

['Hurtful' would be more accurate there, but Luca is eschewing accuracy for the sake of not admitting that it hurts.]

But, ah, I suppose I shouldn't worry too much about it. If I have a choice in the matter, I won't be going back there anyway.

But that's still...

[Sayaka pauses a bit after, though, just...kind of pouting a bit at Luca, inclined to drop the subject. Because that next one...]

Do you have any idea on where you plan to go, Luca-san?

Not yet, no. I, well.

[He sounds a little embarrassed.]

I haven't exactly asked anyone about it yet. It seems a little personal, to ask to go with someone like that.

...Perhaps a little, but you'll never know unless you ask them, right?

[Sayaka seems understanding, at least, just...a little confused.]
