Week 8.

WEEK 8 Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it? Is there anything you can do? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign. Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 12

[ Huh...yikes indeed. Well, that's one idea out, but it's still dark in here enough for him to try something else. He'll get off the bed. ]

I'll be right back.

[ It...takes him not exactly too long but it wasn't like he was gone for five seconds either, but he eventually returns with a few candles and some matches. This might either get slightly ridiculous or work out fine, but hey. ]

[Well, Rideaux certainly isn't going anywhere. Though when Yuri gets back, he's properly lying on the bed now. He lifts his head up a bit to see what Yuri left to get, and...

...if it wasn't for the candles he'd be concerned that he was planning to start a fire in here.]

Yuri, what in the world are you planning to do?

[hesperos]

Nothing too big.

[ Yuri lights the candles and sets them on the desk, before stepping back. This is going to probably look ridiculous, but...he's going to bring his hands together. With the candle's dim light against the darkness, it easily casts a shadow that looks like something in flight.

It's supposed to be a butterfly, actually, but he hasn't quite gotten it down. It probably looks kind of ridiculous. ]

Why not a little bit of a guessing game? This look like anything familiar to you?

[Whatever Yuri's up to, it gets Rideaux to sit back up at least. He stares at Yuri for a second before he figures out that he's doing something with the candlelight, then glances toward the shadow creature he has created.

...

It is definitely ridiculous. But at the same time, it's actually...very endearing. Yes. An endearing distraction.]

I...have no idea. Am I meant to assume it's some kind of winged creature? Those vaguely look like wings.

[hesperos]

... It's supposed to be a butterfly.

[ He does a thing with his fingers and it just ends up looks like something flapping it's wings. Maybe he should've thought about this a little more - in the sense it's kind of impossible to make it look like that in the first place. ]

Or I guess now it's a bird.

[ ... Hmm. ]

You think you can make do better than I can with it?

[evilfrenzy]

Ah, I see it now. [Or he at least acknowledges that Yuri is doing his best.] I promise I was not purposefully criticizing you.

[But, oh... Yuri wants him to try?

...

Distractions. Any distractions count. So, after a pause for consideration, he rises to his feet to join Yuri by the candles.]

I honestly doubt I'll do much better, but let's see here...

[He vaguely remembers a dog version of this that he's seen before, so he tries to replicate that shadow with his hands. His hands aren't quite in the right position so it looks wonky, but he's aiming it to make the shadow looks like a dog head howling upward.]

[hesperos]

Heh, figured as much.

[ Yuri doesn't know what to expect - if Rideaux would actually try or not, but he's hoping it's enough to get his mind off things albeit temporarily. He feels a short smile come and go when the man comes by to join him, however.

... He watches Rideaux do the thing on his end, or perhaps more accurately it would be to say that he's watching the results of his efforts, seeing as his eyes are on the shadows in the candlelight here!

There's a moment of pause and clearly there is something profound to say here. ]

Not bad for your first try.

[ ... ]

Woof.

[evilfrenzy]

[...albeit briefly, Rideaux sighs in an amused sort of way.]

I would say this is more of an "awoo". Wouldn't you? [He moves his hands to imitate the howling motion.] Either way, I appreciate the vote of confidence.

[hesperos]

...Yeah, that's right. Awoo or something.

[ Yuri is one of the few people here who can say this with a straight face. ]

No problem. Looks like you're even getting better already.

[ With the shadow play here, he means. ]

[evilfrenzy]

[It's dark where they're standing so it might be hard to see, but there is a small hint of a smile on Rideaux's face for a moment.]

If I am, it's your doing. [...he probably means that in more ways than one.] I admit that I did not know what to expect when you brought this all in, but...it's creative.

[hesperos]

[ Yuri turns to look over at the man beside him for a moment and then back in front of him, placing his hands casually behind the back of his head. ]

What can I say? I'm a man of many surprises.

[ ... Hah. ]

It's good to hear that what I did has helped out, though.

[evilfrenzy]

So you are.

[They were just talking about that too, weren't they... Heh.]

Yes, it has. [...] Thank you, Yuri, for doing this for me. It will take me some time to fully come to terms with all of this, but I... I know I would have been much worse off if not for what you've said and done.

[He shakes his head a little.]

That may sound rather cheesy, but I really do feel that way.

[ They were. Funny how things do happen to kind of come full circle here - even if it was just from a simple conversation... and now, well, here they are.

Yuri will move so he's leaning against the desk, facing Rideaux now. ]

Hey, it's no problem. I'm honestly glad I was able to do something for you, and like hell I'd have left you to just mull around without doing something to try to help. I know you would've done the same for me, and you've been there when I've needed it most too.

[ It's no surprise this has gotten him to smile a little now. Yuri knows himself if he hadn't had the support he had at the time, he'd be a wreck. So naturally, he's going to be willing to do the same for those who helped him - or those close to him. ]

It might sound kinda cheesy, but I don't think it's bad at all to say you feel grateful, you know.

[evilfrenzy]

[Strangely enough, Rideaux seems to struggle with what to say next. He's looking at Yuri, but for a good few moments, he just has an expression that almost looks like one of guilt. He's had a rather strained relationship with the concept of gratefulness for most of his life. That...has not changed much here, because of what the Coordinators have done for him. But with Yuri, he is grateful without any sense of indebtedness attached. And that is because Yuri is right- Rideaux would and will do the same for him.

It's just surprising to him that this is how he truly feels after all this time.]

...I suppose not. Perhaps I called it cheesy since I went into that little ramble instead of simply saying, "I am grateful to you".

[hesperos]

[ Yuri will definitely notice, but he doesn't exactly comment on it. He figures the reason for it being there in the first place would have something to do with his experiences. And, honestly, for all the crap they've been put through by the Coordinators, he's at least glad to be there for someone who hasn't had the chance for anyone to support them at all. ]

Heh, well. If you ask me, I thought it was just the right amount of cheesiness. It's good to leave things simple at times, but other times it can be nice to go a little beyond that.

[ If Yuri knew about the convention of saying 'cheese' and taking pictures, he'd have mentioned something about that too, but for now this will do. ]

[evilfrenzy]

[Oh no, bless...

All right, that gets him to muster up some of his nonseriousness for a moment, at least.]

Glad to have your approval. You sound like you have experience with this, so I trust your judgement.

[hesperos]

Heh.

[ ... ]

By the way, the Yuri Lowell official seal of approval will get you very far, so it is a very good thing to have.

[ ... Yuri please. ]

Rideaux makes some kind of amused noise at that.]

Does it now? I must be a very lucky man to have earned it, then.
