Week 8.

WEEK 8

Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it?

Is there anything you can do?

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign.

Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here.

Oh, I know.

[ She exhales softly. Her own experiences, Karin, the like of the, ]

But it's the indulgence of an old woman to dislike it.
bloodisthicker: equalists attacking, bloodbending the-uhhhh... (rough day man)

[personal profile] bloodisthicker 2017-11-06 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
...yes, of course. It'd be nice if the world would just slow down for everyone.

Honestly, though, to have someone decided from birth to be basically a god is a little it... the whole thing is a little absurd, isn't it?
bloodisthicker: yeah but what are we going to do with all that melon juice? (pinky are you thinking what i'm thinking)

[personal profile] bloodisthicker 2017-11-06 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I never really thought about it like that, but... yeah. It kind of is.

It's too much on someone who doesn't even get a choice in it.
bloodisthicker: maybe you shouldn't have gone all facist tarrlok (way to turn out like dad tarrlok)

No one really has any control of their circumstances, though, when you get down to it. Sometimes you end up a normal person with a normal life. Sometimes you're the Avatar and you get everyone's expectations heaped on you. Sometimes you're the only Airbending child of the last Airbender and you end up with a reasonably nice life and a loving family even with all the pressure that would entail. Sometimes your father decides that he'd like to use you as a weapon and live vicariously through you and your brother as you take his revenge for him.

And sometimes demons come to your doorstep before you an adult. Sometimes you're born as a sacrifice.

[ . . . ]

Don't think I'm so ignorant, but it's more... to have a destiny before them, something as immutable as all that? It's disgusting.

Hmm. Well, I can't say I envy the current Avatar given that she had a fairly sheltered upbringing and then went out into a world full of political upheval, although historically some of them have gotten to the position more or less seriously. Legend has it that Avatar Kuruk basically just partied until his girlfriend's face was stolen.

So I suppose that's luck of the draw, too.

[ . . . Okay no she was being serious here but- ]

Her face was stolen?
bloodisthicker: punched any equalists lately (so how you doin')

[personal profile] bloodisthicker 2017-11-10 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[OH, HERE'S WHERE THE FUN STORIES START]

The aptly named Koh the Face-Stealer happens to be a spirit who can steal your face if he sees you show any emotion other than calm detachment.

What.

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-11-12 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So the guy just goes around eating faces for no reason? What a jerk!
bloodisthicker: i am going to arrest your friends k (ahahahahahahahaha)

[personal profile] bloodisthicker 2017-11-15 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, he doesn't eat them. He kind of takes them for himself and can wear them and switch them around whenever he likes.

...

But yes, it's still pretty awful given that his victims are left with a blank expanse of skin where their face used to be.
matchbreaker: (MUSIC)

[personal profile] matchbreaker 2017-11-16 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
... Yeah, I'll say! What, that's just... what he does? And no one's locked the guy up or anything?
bloodisthicker: yeah but what are we going to do with all that melon juice? (pinky are you thinking what i'm thinking)

[personal profile] bloodisthicker 2017-11-18 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he's a spirit, so it's a bit difficult to lock him up. Especially since he mostly stays in the spirit world, I think?
